lipitor side effects muscle cramps

I am 25 male and been on lipitor 20mg for almost 2 months. No side effects.

m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.

I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.

I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.

I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.

This is the exact same thing as a Statin without the dangerous side effects. In fact, it is the main ingredient in Lovastatin, but, the labs have not had a chance to ruin it, therefore, it is safe. I would try this and see how it works, it might be the answer you are looking for.

I am not familiar with Lipitor, but I did google it, side effects of taking it r muscle pain....fibro has a tender point test and is the result after ur dr has eliminated other conditions that share the same symptoms...see the health pages to the right of the screen...scroll down......ur best bet would be to see ur dr.

He insisted that I had arthritis Finally a friend suggested that I look up the side effects of lipitor on the net. It was all there and I had more than half of the symptoms on the list, severly. I have since taken my self off lipitor and have been off it now for ten weeks. I am much better but still not totally back to normal. This is potentially and dangerous drug. Beware of it and make sure that you have a good doctor. I have since changed mine.

Within a few months I had severe muscle pain and loss of strength. I was taken off Lipitor. My current LDL is about 180 and use Flax Oil and Niacin supplements daily. Since beginning Lotrel in 2007 I have had a recurrence of severe muscle pain and weakness. I also suffered heat exhaustion in 2006 and now cannot tolerate more than 6 hours in, 90degree plus, heat. I sometimes have night sweats, and chills. My feet are so painful that I take Advil to sleep.

One of the side effects of statins, and a fairly serious one, is degeneration of muslce tissue especially in the legs. If this side effect is noticed, then the drug is to be immediately stopped by the doctor. This is written on the leaflet accompanying the packaging. If this is the reason for his pains, he must stay off the medication because it can cause serious damage to muslces.

Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabdamolysis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.

hi Abulafia, welcome to the forum here. Simastatins were in the news again this week- they are suspected to be nowhere nearly as effective as the statins. My DH was just at the cardiologist this week and had niacin added back into his regimen. He is an open heart patient, doing well now, but battling the inherited high cholesterol. His Cardio doc said to ramp up to 1000mg a day - he has him starting with 100mg twice a day to start. It needs to be titrated just like so many other drugs.

CPK is found in skeletal muscle and myocardium (heart muscle). Lipitor can cause various levels of elevation and associated symptoms like muscle aches, weakness and atrophy. The elevated CPK may be of no consequence or it may cause serious problems depending upon the degree of elevation and the symptoms. A severely elevated CPK can cause liver damage. I would consult with your physician to determine if this is a new finding.

2010 but I am now expereincing muscle stiffness/soreness on both of my biceps. Is this a side effect? I went to my doctor and my dosage has been lowered.

I started with Lescol , then lipitor and now Crestor.The reason for these changes was to try to find a product that does not cause so much muscle cramps.This I decided I had enough. Craps in leg and foot musles have become unbearable. Can you suggest a remidy to avoid incresing my chol level again.
