lipitor side effects back pain

I am 25 male and been on lipitor 20mg for almost 2 months. No side effects.

I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain. My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor. While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.

Is the Lipitor doing damage to his joints as well as causing pain? Is there any other medication with less side effects?

No one told me about lipitor side effects. I literally felt like my body was freezing up. When I Googled it, they referenced ALS like symptoms. This really blew my mind. (spill the wine). They say it may take a month or longer to feel a little bit better. The blood work being ok is a big thing all of a sudden. I have a low grade side effect. I'm weaning off trazodone now, next neurontin, then nortripyline. Maybe. Better days ahead. Maybe...

I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.

thanks for the suggestion about lipitor - I will discuss as well. I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.

I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.

m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.

I have had a pain behind my Heart it feel like it's in my back, and it's not a sharp pain it's a dulling pain that happens with the random of movements. Which is more risky, having a stroke or heart attack due to the very high cholesterol or experiencing severe mucle pain due to the side effect of the Statin. I don't want both of them! What are my other choices besides Statin? I am also experiencing PVCs lately and it really scares me.

Some of the statin drugs, like the one you're taking, can cause joint/muscle pain. My mom had to stop taking Lipitor because of severe leg pain. Before you ask your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist, do some research into the side effects of your meds. There are some web sites out there that let you input all your meds and supplements, and check for side effects and adverse interactions. Another good source of information is your local pharmacist.

Your article helped me as I do belive these may be side effects of the drug. My blood work all came back excellent . I too am 61 years old. I work on my feet all day and am used to the tiredness and occasionally a little soreness but not the soreness I am getting now. What do you think this is? Do you think this could be a side effect of Lipito? Could Lipitor had damaged the muscles around the occipital nerve? Or could lipitor had damaged the occipital nerve?

With both meds, I went through a brief period of muscle pain (a few days maybe). With the Lipitor it was in the back of my upper legs. It went away and hasn't been an issue since. Be sure to let your doctor know what your experiencing, and consider asking about the possibility of a reduced dose.

Update.... So I finally got the insurance company to okay an MRI on my neck and spine. I go for it on Friday. After being off my cholesterol medicine for 2 1/2 months, watching what I ate, no red meat, 99%ground chicken and turkey, high fiber, low-fat, low-carb, my cholesterol level went back up to 212. The good news is I lost 15 lb. Cardiologist put me back on my meds, which I understood why. I have also had a sleep apnea test. Nothing wrong there either.

i have just changed from Crestor to Lipitor and back again. No side effects. Why are you taking statins? You have a heart problem? What are ast and alt? I've been on stats for four years wnd never heard of them.

You may even call your pharmacy, they will be more qualified to answer. Remember, Lipitor is much stronger and usually will have more side effects and much depends on why you got off it in the first place.

I saw the cardio this week and for now he wants me to remain on the lipitor - and I will, or at least I will until I have unexplained side effects. It is a controversial topic on many heart boards - I hope you do some more research on the topic and discuss this with your doctor as well.

I later restarted Lipitor at a lower dose because all research and studies strongly suggest statins, and especially Lipitor, have beneficial effects upon cardiac, vascular, and brain function, and at the lower dose I haven't had any ill effects... but again, I can't say (and my docs can't say) if my original symptoms were because of Lipitor or "adjusting" to a new metabolism or what... That's the total of my two cents...
