Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor off patent

lipitor

Avatar f tn My husband was recently taken off of Lipitor and has been experiencing daily headaches. He's not a headache person. Is this a common thing when coming off Lipitor? Also, I have read that you should stop it gradually. Is this true?
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.
Avatar f tn I have been resisting the diagnosis for quite a few years but have been experiencing severe pain for the past couple of weeks and just want any pain killers that can give me relief. I am wondering if stopping the drug Lipitor could be exascerbating the problem. My symptoms sound like those caused by taking lipitor but I'm wondering if going off of it could be a form of withdrawal? Any insight would be most helpful.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar n tn I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain. My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor. While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.
678451 tn?1226425977 I have just started on Lipitor for what has been determined to be a genetic predisposition to High Cholesterol level. The physician wishes that I be maintained on 10 mgs. daily. However the Rx. was written for 40 mgs, to take one half tablet every second day(since the cost of procuring the 40 mg tablet is significantly lower). Will taking 20 mgs every second day give me the same benefit of 10 mgs daily. Or, is it best to take the medication daily as oppose to every second day.
10996785 tn?1432812977 The doctor then asked about my lipitor. She told me that lipitor has a bad side effect that can permanently damage muscles in your body, that can lead to kidney failure. I'm not saying Lipitor is bad. It does have this side effect that can effect a small amount of people. However, I without a doubt, feel as if this is my problem. Lipitor and Trazodone have combined to almost stop me in my tracks. I realize that some people may not like the talking about lipitor in this way.
Avatar m tn My doctor tried several other replacements but all brought on anxiety until I tried Lipitor. I have been on Lipitor since then and it has been working quite well. My medical insurance company stopped covering Lipitor and my doctor has been trying to find a suitable replacement. First, I was prescribed Pravacol which brought on a strong anxiety attack after taking it for 3 days. I was then given Crestor.
Avatar n tn from lipitor's site http://www.lipitor.com/about-lipitor/side-effects.jsp?setShowOn=../about-lipitor/side-effects.jsp&setShowHighlightOn=../about-lipitor/side-effects.
Avatar n tn I've been on 10mg lipitor for about 2 months. In the pst 4 weeks, I have experienced an almost once-a-week swelling in my lips and face...first time lower left, 2nd time, entire upper, 3rd time lower right, 4th time, entire right side of my face and finally, yesterday, entire left side of my face from upper lip to just below the eye. Cardiologist told me to get off drug for 6 weeks to see if anything else is causing swelling.
Avatar m tn Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
599170 tn?1300973893 very interesting inro, my dr did say lipitor lowers heart attack/stroke possibility,,,,I notice that Im just maintaing I really want off the lipitor gonna speak w dr and try some alternatives, I am hypothroid does this play into anything regarding any of the supplements. I like the red yeast rice idea.
Avatar m tn I ask because the Lipitor fullpage ads in national magazines say DO NOT BREAK TABLETS and they Lipitor website from Pfizer also says on the meds page DO NOT BREAK TABLETS but my doctor told me to break the 10 mg tabs in half and take just half each day. I wrote to Lipitor's PR department in NYC, a very polite letter, and they so far refuse to answer my emails, preferring to stonewall me, er, pillwall, me, which I do not understand why they would do that. I am a customer. I buy their pills.
1463256 tn?1286028981 I believe you're speaking of Atorvastatin which is sold as Lipitor. Much depends on your numbers. Lipitor is one of the stronger statin drugs and is commonly used to reduce high levels of serum LDL. Lipitor has also been shown to have a minimal effect on raising HDL as well, but is primarily prescribed to individuals with high levels of LDL (over 130) or high total cholesterol (over 200) or people that have several risk factors for CAD along with high cholesterol levels.
Avatar f tn Here is what's interesting. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was given 20mg of Lipitor. A few weeks after I began a consistent regiment, I was in the E.R. with BP 153/101. And it happened again 3 months later, then again after I stopped taking it for 6 months and started again. 4 weeks after I started taking it regularly after the long stoppage I was back in the hospital after for high blood pressure, palpations, chest pains.and headache.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabdamolysis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.
Avatar f tn The pains are bearable but it is if I over did exercise and it hurts constant.. My dr told me to come off the Lipitor, so what should I take.?. My body seem to be producing the cholesterol, and the level of the choleserol is down to 179 but the Triglycerides are 259, hence the reason for the crestor and lipitor.. Can anyone suggest anything..
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar m tn Well, here is the latest, after getting checked into the hospital for the feelings and pains i was having, i had various tests done, echograph showed heart was working well. Stress test i did 14 or 15 mins and the ecg's showed no heart attacks, plus numerous blood tests. So it was decided i would have an angiogram as an outpatient. The angio showed a slight blockage as a result of the stent moving, but it was on a lesser archery so it would be too risky to try to fix.
Avatar m tn I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
976897 tn?1379167602 Forgot to mention. Simvastatin was chosen because it is now off patent, and is therefore now a much cheaper statin drug compared to the newer stronger varieties such as lipitor (atorvastatin).
Avatar n tn hi, iv been taking yasmin for a few months now, and i was on a previous pill before that but had a bad reaction to it hence had to change. anyway last month i started bleeding before my week off, so i kept taking the pill on my week off because i didnt want to have a 'period' for 2 weeks. then this month on my week off, nothing happened, no bleeding at all.
Avatar f tn His doctor started him on Lipitor 20 mg. After a few months he can hardly move-- his joints ache and he is getting new joint injuries daily-- (knuckels are swelling--arm muscle injury won't heal--).. His doctor stopped the meds, waited a week, then started at lower dose. Same results, He went from a vibrant energetic man to a slow limping man in a few months. What injuries is this medication doing to his joints? Might they be permanent? Does the Lipitor dissolve the calcifications?
Avatar m tn ALNY) disclosed on Thursday the receipt of a US new patent under its McSwiggen patent estate for the advancement of RNAi therapeutics for the treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The company added that the US patent no. 8,618,277, or '277 patent, which includes broad, sequence-independent issued claims on compositions of chemically modified siRNA targeting HBV, was awarded by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Avatar m tn Reason I ask is that I have been taking Lipitor since November H.A. and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
