Avatar f tn Here is what's interesting. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was given 20mg of Lipitor. A few weeks after I began a consistent regiment, I was in the E.R. with BP 153/101. And it happened again 3 months later, then again after I stopped taking it for 6 months and started again. 4 weeks after I started taking it regularly after the long stoppage I was back in the hospital after for high blood pressure, palpations, chest pains.and headache.

Avatar n tn In adults older than age 60, a pulse pressure greater than 60 mmHg is abnormal. Treating high blood pressure usually reduces pulse pressure as well. Apparently, you have a good pulse pressure! In people under age 50, the situation is less clear for isolated high diastolic. Younger people have good arterial elasticity, and a high diastolic is associated with some cardiovascular risk. The risk is small, however, and a diastolic under 85 does not require treatment.
Avatar f tn Is your husbands cholesterol particularly high? If it is very high, then I suggest he takes the lipitor, if not, then a strict healthy diet can be as good. Blood pressure is another key factor in the buildup of plaque, it must be kept normal which again may take medication such as ace inhibitors. There are other risk factors which must be addressed, such as no smoking, avoiding as much stress as possible and regular exercise.

Being fed lots of fruit/veg and nuts uncooked, they found it very difficult but stayed til the end. The final results were amazing, they ALL had normal blood pressure and cholesterol. Each individual said how they felt much better. Strangely, they were all offered a last meal on the last day and could choose between two options.

I have been put in the hospital 3 times within these 3 months. I get stress tests, ultrasounds, X-rays and blood work. Avatar m tn When a person has heart disease, the blood pressure needs to remain low. Your mom's blood pressure is not too low. As her blood builds back to where it should be, she may see an increase in her blood pressure. The main thing with heart disease is to keep the pressure down. Normal for an average person is 120/72. Doctors usually want it lower in people with heart disease. Her medications are needed to help her live a longer lifespan.

Avatar m tn I am a patient, not a doctor, but due to high blood fats, I have been prescribed a number of different statins such as lipitor, and I am among the unfortunate people who always develop muscle pains in the arms, shoulders, and back on these drugs. You might want to ask your MD about this, as it might relate to your back pain.

Avatar n tn Supplementing with Coenzyme Q10 has been shown in studies to decrease blood pressure slightly in those with high blood pressure. It has also been studied for slowing dementia, and reducing angina, symptoms associated with heart failure and other symptoms associated with heart -related illnesses. I recommend Coen Q10 to all patients with cardiac disease regardless of the presence of myopathy, because I have seen significant benefit in my practice patients. The safety profile is very good.
Avatar m tn Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a high-intensity statin and is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. There are alternatives for Lipitor that may not show this side-effect. (i.e. rosuvastatin=Crestor) My advice is to contact the cardiologist ask ask him/her if it is possible to switch to an alternative.
Avatar m tn material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels. Certain conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking and sedentary lifestyle promote this. So, work on controlling the high risk factors. Regards.

Avatar f tn From a teenager I had very high cholesterol (genetic) and high blood pressure. Doctors ignored it in those days, but I sure am paying for it now. As well as cholesterol, you need to keep your blood pressure in check, avoid as much stress as possible and definitely never take up smoking.
