Lipitor hepatitis

Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor hepatitis

lipitor

Avatar m tn Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis can be caused by many things such as hepatitis A, B or C. It can also be caused by drugs or other toxins as well as alcohol. Your mother's hepatitis is caused by taking lipitor, a pill. It is not a virus and has nothing to do with blood to blood contact. I hope this helps you to understand. Her liver will likely go back to normal as soon as the lipitor is out of her body.
Avatar n tn About a month ago my liver function readings were elevated, so my Doctor took me off Lipitor to see if it was the Lipitor or alcohol consumption causing them to be high. He told me to come back in one month to be tested again. Even without the Lipitor, they went up some to 74 AST and 142 ALT. Now he wants me to go to get a GI Specialist. I asked if this was for more testing, he just said no, but they would be better off determining what medication you should be on.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome. 20% Of people clear the virus on there own after being infected with Hepatitis C. Your husband's Hepatitis Viral Load Test will confirm if your husband has cleared the virus or currently infected with hepatitis C. It takes about a week to get the results back after the blood a blood draw.
Avatar n tn She had been on Lipitor for 4 years. Her doctor took her off Lipitor 6 months ago due to elevated AST/ALT levels (160/200). Four months of no lipitor lowered her numbers to 20/24. He put her back on Lipitor (cholesterol was up to 236). Within one month being back on Lipitor, mom started having the symptoms listed above. She was admitted at the hospital where CT scan (normal), biopsy (inconclusive, inflammation present), ultrasounds of the entire abdominal area (normal) were done.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Well, I'll start with telling you a little about my health. I've type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high trig. (hereditary on mother's side). I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.'s once a day and lipitor 10 mg.'s once a day for about 6 yrs. now. I've now been taken off the medicine's now due to high liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2008.
362971 tn?1201987034 I have been getting recurring bouts of Pericarditis since I treated with Interferon succesfully for hepatitis c. I have had 4 bouts of it in 15 months. None of the specialists that I have seen know what causes it to keep coming back. I recently did some blood work and my hsCRP was "25". It shouldn't be above "1". It measures the amount of inflamation in your body.
Avatar f tn I think an autoimmune disorder would certainly need to be investigated before blindly throwing more chemicals in your body. For example, if you happen to have autoimmune hepatitis, the lipitor would only further damage your liver. I'm not sure if it would help you, but I take (1) enteric coated garlic capsule every day and it brought my cholesterol down to bragging levels. My sister told me about how it had done the same for her.
Avatar f tn frankly don't think you need see a hepatologist as the liver tests are OK. you can check an IgM level, which is also frequently elevated in PBC.
Avatar n tn I started thinking back, since menopause, I started on several meds, on of which was lipitor. Not one doctor said it could be the lipitor i was taking causing the hives. On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
Avatar m tn //www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/ My question is, has anyone else taking Lipitor experience this? How do you stop this 'hair growth' ? Is there an alternative to Lipitor? Thank you!
10996785 tn?1432812977 The doctor then asked about my lipitor. She told me that lipitor has a bad side effect that can permanently damage muscles in your body, that can lead to kidney failure. I'm not saying Lipitor is bad. It does have this side effect that can effect a small amount of people. However, I without a doubt, feel as if this is my problem. Lipitor and Trazodone have combined to almost stop me in my tracks. I realize that some people may not like the talking about lipitor in this way.
Avatar f tn My husband was recently taken off of Lipitor and has been experiencing daily headaches. He's not a headache person. Is this a common thing when coming off Lipitor? Also, I have read that you should stop it gradually. Is this true?
Avatar n tn However, through exercise he developed calaterals around his 100% block LAD artery. 678451 tn?1226425977 I have just started on Lipitor for what has been determined to be a genetic predisposition to High Cholesterol level. The physician wishes that I be maintained on 10 mgs. daily. However the Rx. was written for 40 mgs, to take one half tablet every second day(since the cost of procuring the 40 mg tablet is significantly lower). Will taking 20 mgs every second day give me the same benefit of 10 mgs daily. Or, is it best to take the medication daily as oppose to every second day.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabadolosis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
1995824 tn?1330379049 Fasting cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein and triglycerides were compared. Next was a retrospective cohort study (Treated Hepatitis C Group) of 87 treated hepatitis C patients with lipid data before and after therapy was performed. In the case-control analysis, the HCV Group had significantly lower LDL and cholesterol than the Uninfected Control Group.
Avatar n tn I've been on 10mg lipitor for about 2 months. In the pst 4 weeks, I have experienced an almost once-a-week swelling in my lips and face...first time lower left, 2nd time, entire upper, 3rd time lower right, 4th time, entire right side of my face and finally, yesterday, entire left side of my face from upper lip to just below the eye. Cardiologist told me to get off drug for 6 weeks to see if anything else is causing swelling.

Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar m tn Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar f tn The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it. When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if stopping the drug Lipitor could be exascerbating the problem. My symptoms sound like those caused by taking lipitor but I'm wondering if going off of it could be a form of withdrawal? Any insight would be most helpful.
Avatar m tn My doctor tried several other replacements but all brought on anxiety until I tried Lipitor. I have been on Lipitor since then and it has been working quite well. My medical insurance company stopped covering Lipitor and my doctor has been trying to find a suitable replacement. First, I was prescribed Pravacol which brought on a strong anxiety attack after taking it for 3 days. I was then given Crestor.
