I also take lisinopril, and pepcid and iron because being on blood thinners at my age it caused other issues. I have had several issues with vasalvega sincope since my heart attack I just pass out.. My heart rate drops in the 40 at night and it wakes me up. I dont sleep well anymore. My life is really changed. I have been fighting being depressed and angry and frustrated because before heart attack I took no pills now I take 10 a day.
My husband had a heart attack 10 years ago with unsuccessful stint placement. However, through exercise he developed calaterals around his 100% block LAD artery. He has been on Lipitor since initial MI and had the dose increaed since last angiocather test 3 years ago. He is 67 and has increasing fatigue, weight loss and muscle tone decline. He is able to work (farmer) but is increasinly fatigued. I want him to stop the Lipitor. Am I correct?
what do you think is a better drug: I have an hdl of 34 and very low bad cholesterol. i've been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far!

I had a small heart attack (Dr. said) 2/17/11 and a TIA 8/11/11. I,m on two 325mg asprins,80mg Lipitor ,2000mg slo niacin,otc, 12.5 metoprolol,I,m very active, softball coach,30x60 garden,mow and trim one acre. 70 years with no after effects of these occurances. Dr did not suggest any restrictions of activities or food. He did talk about the heart pumping to fast and he could install a defibrillator. He felt I would have a heart attack next rather than stroke. No time element was given.

@tootie56 - There are many benign reasons for t-wave abnormalities, and some not-so-benign. I wouldn't be able to tell you what your doctor meant by "fixed defect," but it is possible that your husband had a previous heart attack and did not know it. It's not entirely uncommon for someone in their late 50's or 60's to get a medical work-up and discover they had one or more minor heart attacks.
Patients who have suffered a heart attack and/or with known coronary artery disease should be on a beta blocker of some sort. Cavedilol is just one of many different types of beta blockers which also has some effects on lowering blood pressure as well as being an important medication for those with a history of heart failure. Two weeks later, I started experiencing mild aching in the upper chest/esophogus area--a mild form of my heart attack/angina symptoms. Yes its the statins in the little white pills. I am a reporter heart attack 2009 stent doc put me on 20 mg lippy and dreams were too scary. So he put me d0wn to 10 mg and i take lippy at midnight and dreams dont kick in until 6 a.m. but wow in color mirror my daily life wake up amazed at power of lippy. Must be the statins a mini lsd kind of chemical. I wrote to pfizer pr office but they refuse tivtell me whats in the statins. So i am writing an oped for nytimes. Stay tuned. Long live Lippy.

I'm betting that Lipitor was a minor player in your husband's situation. I'm a type 2 diabetic and still take the drug, it controls my colesterol better than any of the other drugs that are used to keep diabetes in check.
I may be a preacher talking to the choir, but I'm betting your husband needs a reality check.
Had a very small heart attack and then had to have a stent put in. I'm on Lipotor, Aspirin, Lisinopril, meta-something for heart rate. Some discomfort now, 1 week after the work but reading here it looks like it is to be expected. The meta drug apparently needs to be forever as well as the aspirin.

My father is 51 years old now and in August 2008 had a heart attack,the doctor advised him to use lipitor,lowplat.mepresor and loprine, his ALT and AST count in november 2008 was 30 and 22 respectively, by the use of lipitor his ALT ans AST count raised to 2246 and 1280 ... clearly above normal... doctor advised him t leave the use of lipitor. my question t you is ... by leaving lipitor will the count decrease?? or what should be done??

Most of these individuals did not have leg cramps until after a heart attack. Is it the stents that are causing poor circulation in the legs? He is out of the hospital now and his angioplasty was very good and showed a healthy heart. They went from saying heart attack to almost heart attack. This made his blood sugars go to over 650. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
I also would like to know if anyone can tell me if he had NO idea he had any heart conditions, until he had his Heart Attack, can the Stress of rolling up his landing gear have caused this Heart Attack? It is possible there is some memory problem with a heart attack as for a brief period of time during the heart attack there is insufficient cardiac output, and the deficit of blood/oxygen supply that caused the heart attack could effect the brain as well for lack of oxygen. Meds can also be a factor.
Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems.
My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
