lipitor

519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now. I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Hi there! I'm thankful for this site to get a insight into understanding medical diagnoses. Before I get started, I would like to thank you for all you do and taking the time in reviewing my post. Well, I'll start with telling you a little about my health. I've type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high trig. (hereditary on mother's side). I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar n tn This med is generic for Lipitor, as you probably already know. I've researched and there is nothing about anger problems. The best thing to do is ask your Dr or pharmacist if this could be a possible interaction. When did you start the Zoloft? I'm asking because anger and personality chances could be a side effect of this med.
Avatar m tn On Monday night, Steve Wilson, an investigative reporter for Channel 7 News in Detroit, did a story on generic drug prices gouging by pharmacies. He found in his investigation that some of these generic drugs were marked up as much as 3,000% or more. So often we blame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and usually rightfully so. But in this case, the fault clearly lies with the pharmacies themselves.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.

I've now been taken off the medicine's now due to high liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2008.
Avatar m tn Generic Lipitor Recall http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/news/20121126/generic-lipitor-recall?
Avatar m tn You can exchange the prescription at the pharmacy for the Brand Name, I did that when they tried to switch me from Lipitor with some generic made in India, which I refuse to take because of quality control issues.
Avatar m tn The generic drug for Lipitor has been recalled if you are on this medication contact your pharmacist. Recalled for possible glass particles in the pills.
482517 tn?1208551378 Yep, Lipitor, Toprol, (actually the generic of Toprol, but I don't know how to spell it) and Zetia. I take an otc niacin supplement. When I started taking all this stuff, I did really bruise easily and bleed a bunch from nicks and such. Never had a nosebleed problem. But, all this lasted only a short time, probably less than a year. Don't have nearly as much trouble with it recently. I'm kind of assuming that it's something that the body gets used to over time.
Avatar n tn I had no problems at all with that med. Then when the generic for Lipitor came out, she put me on that. I guess to save me money. I was having constant daily headaches. Neurologist treated it as Migraines. MRI was normal. Still having some migraines weekly now. But my neurologist says I'm fine and that I am clear to return to work. I told him what all else I was feeling in my head and he just blew it off.
Avatar f tn I had several TIA's 5 years ago. A history of strokes runs in my mother's family. You need to take this very seriously. I still have memory problems which the doctors say is a combination of aging and the TIA's. I take lipitor (generic) and plavix (generic) because of my (and family) history. You definitely need to stop smoking, exercise, watch your diet and monitor your salt intake.
Avatar f tn 10 mg/day of atorvastain (generic versin of Lipitor.) I started having muscle aches, so I take Co-Q10 every night (200 mgs.) It helps, but truth be told, I'm always in pain all over my body; I just suck it up (I have high pain tolerance.) But back to the subject of my post: Since I started the statin, but stomach and bowels are a mess. I've always suffered with IBS, but through diet and exercise it was well under control for the past 20 years.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar m tn I took lipitor for twenty years without problems until menopause and the dose was raised from ten to twenty mg. I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar f tn I'm 45 years old an had bypass surgery 8 weeks ago. I haven't been able to sleep without an Ambien(sleeping pill) for the last 5 weeks. I was wondering how long it may be before I can sleep without a pill. I'm currently taking Toprol, Iron, 81 Asprin, Plavix, Primovel and Lipitor. My doctor wants to change my Lipitor to Vytorin. I have heard the Vyrotin doesn't work. Any thoughts? Also how long do the grafts last in your heart? Mine were taken out of my leg.
Avatar n tn I do take 25mg of Atemolol and also Prvastatin, which has just change to the generic of Lipitor. Thank you for you ri insight. This is definelty something for my doctors as well as myself to take notice of.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor and I know you are waiting for his answer. In the meantime, just a thought, did she happen to start taking generic TOPROL 4 months ago or did she switch from the extended release to an immediate release? The generic I'm talking about is called Metoprolol Succinate ER (generic for the brand TOPROL XL) and doesn't work as well in some people. A switch back to brand might do the trick.
Avatar n tn You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it. You should try to change your diet to no oil and more plant based less meat or no meat and whole grains. You actually will get enough protein. No cheese because that has loads of fat. That will help with the cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. If you don't want to that is ok. I have a website you can read or a book www.drmcdougall.
