Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.

Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn My most recent numbers ( no medication) are as follow: Total 306, Triglycerides 54, HDL 90, LDL 205, ratio 2.3 I am a 60 year old female. Statins affect my liver; I have been on Lipitor and simvastatin (Zocor) I have no major health problems, eat a good diet, only a few pounds too many, not enough exercise. What can I do to lower my LDL number?
Avatar m tn I have tried this on myself and gave up beef for 12 years and pork for one year. When I gave up beef, my LDL and triglycerides dropped dramatically. When I gave up pork it dropped even more. My triglycerides were down to 35. My LDL was down to 79. Watch what you eat, take your medication has prescribed by the doctor, and excerise. My mom had a bicuspid valve and hers did not give her trouble until she was in her late 60's. Take care and keep your heart strong and healthy.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar n tn 70 and if you are only on 5 mg of Lipitor the first thing I would do is to increase the Lipitor dose to 40 mg daily. Crestor is stronger mg for mg as compared to Lipitor but there is no data that suggests it is better.
Avatar f tn i take tricor for my trigs they were over 600 got them down to 137 in 6 weeks i had no side affects
Avatar n tn Fibrates break down the particles that make triglycerides and use them in other ways in your body. Lower triglycerides can lead to increased levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol. •Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitors (Brand name: Zetia) A cholesterol absorption inhibitor is used to lower levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. This medicine can also be given in combination with a statin.
Avatar n tn My Triglycerides and HDL count are very good. I take Lipitor for my high cholesterol. Is the Nuva Ring okay to use while on Lipitor? Is the Nuva Ring not recommended for people with High cholesterol? My Lipitor is 10 mg. Thank you!
Avatar m tn Im a smoker but already quit for few days already. Im just worried about my 2d echo report. My Triglycerides is always high and my bad cholesterol. Im also taking up maintainance everyday 20mg Lipitor , 100mg aspirin tablet and vitamins -Concentric left ventricular hypertrophy w/ adequate wall motion and contractility -Thickened mitral valve with mild prolapse of the anterior mitral leaflet. LV (ed) 4.5 EF FS 64% / 34% LV (es) 2.
Avatar m tn I also have 20-30% blockage in other artery which doctor stated with strong lipitor and diet change it should help this. I am on Lipitor 80 mg. also effient, aspirin, and coreg, which was just changed from atenolol which I had been so tired and drained my doctor switched it. I also take lisinopril, and pepcid and iron because being on blood thinners at my age it caused other issues. I have had several issues with vasalvega sincope since my heart attack I just pass out..
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar f tn Hi everybody. Cholesterol is a new health issue for me, among many other new health issues. Could anyone tell me just how bad these numbers are, and if it's possible for me to turn them around as I continue my new diet and exercise plan for my other conditions? These are the results that were mailed to me: "Last lipid profile: Cholesterol 199 Triglyceride 158 HDL (Cholesterol) 42 CHOL/HDLC 4.73 LDL (Cholesterol) 125 VLDL 32.
Avatar m tn Total Chol about 120 or lower Triglycerides about 115 or lower HDL fairly steady at about 35. has always been low. Last monday TG rose to 204 and HDL dropped to 29. Total Chol was 115 and LDL direct was 55. My change was dropping lisinopril due to a couch and increasing Coreg from 3.125 mg 2x/d to 6.25 mg 2x/d this has shifted my cardiac disease risk in the wrong direction. Does it make sense that the lipid change is due to coreg dose this small?
Avatar n tn Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins. Finally found a great doctor who decided to try me on dual meds, that being Zocor, still at 60 mg daily, and 2000 mg niaspan. My levels have all been in the excellent range since. To mmmhady: When getting your CPK levels, what levels are they actually testing you for?
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
Avatar n tn In 2006, I had CABG for blockages (2) in the main left coronary artery. However, the graft was unsuccessful for the blockage in the circumflex coronary artery. The cardiologist has told me I am not a candidate for angioplasty or a stent. He says it is because of the "anatomy of the vessel". He performed another heart cath 7 months after the CABG, and my heart went into "v-fib".
Avatar f tn or maybe wait till after 6 months post tx? Perhaps the fish oil can help with my cholesterol and triglycerides. Is fish oil ok for the liver? Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks.
