Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor dosage information

lipitor

Avatar m tn My doctor has now prescribed 80 daily mg of Lipitor. This seems to be quite a change in dosage and the Lipitor pill is too large to be taken whole.
678451 tn?1226425977 Lipitor is one of the best medications and a dosage of 10 mg is a low dose. Take Lipitor at bedtime. Daily would be better as your body has to adjust to the medication. Your doctor may move you up to 20 mg daily as your body adjusts.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
Avatar m tn I also have 20-30% blockage in other artery which doctor stated with strong lipitor and diet change it should help this. I am on Lipitor 80 mg. also effient, aspirin, and coreg, which was just changed from atenolol which I had been so tired and drained my doctor switched it. I also take lisinopril, and pepcid and iron because being on blood thinners at my age it caused other issues. I have had several issues with vasalvega sincope since my heart attack I just pass out..
Avatar n tn Lipitor is quite a strong statin too, there are many other brands which work in slightly different and less aggressive ways. Even lowering the dose can help. Almost all patients who suffer severe muscle pains are able to be pain free when they change to another brand.
Avatar m tn Reason I ask is that I have been taking Lipitor since November H.A. and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
Avatar m tn I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar n tn I was percribed Lipitor, 40mg. I have been breaking them in half and now see you should not do that. I can not swollow pills and dissolve most in my mouth with water. Why can't I do that with the lipitor? I have been trying to swollow them but by the time I get them down they are pretty much dissoved. I can't find an answer on line.
Avatar m tn I am currently on my 4th statin med since last fall to lower my LDL. I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo. I have a history of CAD and PAD, have had a femoral stent, and am a smoker.(59 yo male, btw). Does anyone know if I can substitute 20 mg Lipitor for my 20 mg Simvastatin, which I just ran out of?

Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar f tn t know what they could do except give pain med. I do take lipitor and have concern that it could be contributing to it. I think I will stop it for a few days. I took Zocor for a while and had to stop because of muscle cramps in legs. Now I've been on lipitor 10mg for a few years. One time the doctor increased the dosage to 20mg and my wrists cramped so she put me back on 10mg. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Lipitor is very safe and extremely effective. I'm an examp;le of a knot-head who was afraid of statins and decided to follow the 'natural' route. My decision led to eight stents, heart attacks, a pacemaker and bypass surgery. Agressive Cardiac Artery Disease needs to be addressed from a number of levels in my opinion, including exercise, weight loss, statins, dietary changes and stress relief.
Avatar m tn I know many doctors that are taking statins in a very low dose that do not even have heart disease (they take it as a precaution). My father takes about 1/4 of the smallest Lipitor dosage. Omega 3 is great for the heart. Because of all the heart disease in our family, I have not ate beef for 13 years and eat very little meat. When I gave up beef for one year, then had my cholesterol checked the LDL dropped down a lot. When I gave up pork for one year, again my LDL dropped.
Avatar m tn 83, i went on a diet and did another test on the 09th April results came as Total 263.70, Trig 178.90, HDL 40.98 and LDL 197.20, my doctor gave me lipitor 40 mg, took for 25 days with a very serious diet and did another test 110.98 total cholesterol 99.20 TRIG, HDL 37.80 and LDL 66.90 i am a smoker less than a pack a day, however, there is no heart disease in the family and my blood pressure is always 120/70 or slightly lower.
Avatar m tn I switch my statin to lipitor 20mg about a month ago and I have noticed that my upper arms muscles gave me a very unusual pain especially when I stretch them even a little. Since than I have gain almost 2kg. What should I do. My next medical appointment is in July. To go to the emergency or to seek for another doctor?
Avatar m tn First time was 2 years ago and he stopped my taking Lipitor. Last night it happened again. I only take this when my legs swell badly and this just started 3 days ago ( the swelling ). I do not use the furosemide all the time , only when I am retaining water. I took one 80mg tablet in the morning and one at night without any extra potassium, was out of bed at 2am, muscles in my legs and arms screaming pain and me flopping around like a fish out of water.
Avatar m tn I ask because the Lipitor fullpage ads in national magazines say DO NOT BREAK TABLETS and they Lipitor website from Pfizer also says on the meds page DO NOT BREAK TABLETS but my doctor told me to break the 10 mg tabs in half and take just half each day. I wrote to Lipitor's PR department in NYC, a very polite letter, and they so far refuse to answer my emails, preferring to stonewall me, er, pillwall, me, which I do not understand why they would do that. I am a customer. I buy their pills.
Avatar f tn I took a quick look through drug information book for dentistry and there are no known complications associated with Lipitor (Atorvastatin). If you do decide to take it, I would encourage you to tell your dental professional that you DID take that medication prior to the procedure. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know why the drug information for Lipitor says that it can cause problems for some people with hypothyroidism? I know that Lipotor can artiificially lower TSH and cause a false positive for hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn Hi ! Been wanting to catch up with you. The first rheumy said I have RA and the new one I went to says I don't. My nuclear whole body scan shows most EVERY joint in my body to be degenerative. (does that mean erosion)? I do have that positive RA Factor and have pain. But now I don't know if I may have Lupus. My Lupus labs are negative including the DNA. Can they eventually become positive?
