lipitor

678451 tn?1226425977 I have just started on Lipitor for what has been determined to be a genetic predisposition to High Cholesterol level. The physician wishes that I be maintained on 10 mgs. daily. However the Rx. was written for 40 mgs, to take one half tablet every second day(since the cost of procuring the 40 mg tablet is significantly lower). Will taking 20 mgs every second day give me the same benefit of 10 mgs daily. Or, is it best to take the medication daily as oppose to every second day.
148588 tn?1465778809 For example, Gilead’s own Stribild, a costly new four-in-one combo treatment for HIV/AIDS, is $80 per pill. At $1,000 per pill, Sovaldi costs 1,100% more than Stribild, the most-expensive AIDS combo drug on the market. In addition, Gilead is charging a higher price for this drug even though the cost to produce it is small. According to industry reports, Gilead produces Sovaldi for approximately $1.00 per gram (with only 10 to 30 grams needed to successfully treat patients with Hepatitis C).
Avatar n tn I was percribed Lipitor, 40mg. I have been breaking them in half and now see you should not do that. I can not swollow pills and dissolve most in my mouth with water. Why can't I do that with the lipitor? I have been trying to swollow them but by the time I get them down they are pretty much dissoved. I can't find an answer on line.
Avatar n tn Is the Nuva Ring okay to use while on Lipitor? Is the Nuva Ring not recommended for people with High cholesterol? My Lipitor is 10 mg. Thank you!
Avatar m tn Reason i ask is my own cardiologist said it is OKAY to break the tabs in half, he even gave me a free pill cutter to cut the tabs, and said either the pill cutter or manually breaking them into two pieces is OKAY and he has been advising patients about this for over 5 years and that HE HIMSELF DID NOT EVEN KNOW of this rule, and he said maybe Pfizer doesn't want customers to save money, that it might all be a bottom line thing. Could that be true?
Avatar f tn I went from Plavix 75 mg, lipitor 80 mg, lotrel 2o/10, aspirin, zolotf, etc etc. at a cost of $4500 per year. It took just over a year I now only take, lipitor 10mg, lotrel 2,5/5. aspirin. cost $400 per year. (Not Bad for a palcebo effect). I have my cholesterol under 150 ldl under 70 hdl 60 .Blood pressure before my run this morning 109/59 pulse 44.
Avatar n tn 3) If you get gas problems (Lipitor produced them to me) I solved it by taking any OTC pill with 120 mg of Sumeticone. 4) Despite any stomach problem, while you are on Plavix, DO NOT TAKE Omeoprazole or other Proton Pump Inhibitor without checking with your cardiologist. (Some studies indicate that might cancel the effect of Plavix). Wish you the best recovery!!!
Avatar m tn This seems to be quite a change in dosage and the Lipitor pill is too large to be taken whole.
Avatar n tn I am 25 male and been on lipitor 20mg for almost 2 months. No side effects.
Avatar m tn Reason I ask is that I have been taking Lipitor since November H.A. and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
Avatar m tn My doctor tried several other replacements but all brought on anxiety until I tried Lipitor. I have been on Lipitor since then and it has been working quite well. My medical insurance company stopped covering Lipitor and my doctor has been trying to find a suitable replacement. First, I was prescribed Pravacol which brought on a strong anxiety attack after taking it for 3 days. I was then given Crestor.
Avatar m tn I saw this yesterday, printed it out and have read it several times. And I'll probably have to read it several more before I can completely wrap my head around it. The good news, as I see it, is the clarity it brings to the subject of actual cost of new medications to payers. "The $1000 dollar pill" or the "$1125 pill" has gotten so much play in the media. (Doctors aren't immune to this nor are many who work in the insurance industry.
Avatar f tn im 68 im havin tinngling an numnesson theright sid of my face an arm just got out of hosptial seem like 5day later the same thing comming want to know whats goin onim taking this lipitor for high chostal and three high blood pressure pill
Avatar n tn I believe it started after I was given Lipitor for high cholesterol. I usually have very watery bowel movements about twice a day and today it has been worse, not making it to the bathroom. I appreciate your help and advice very much.
Avatar m tn Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis can be caused by many things such as hepatitis A, B or C. It can also be caused by drugs or other toxins as well as alcohol. Your mother's hepatitis is caused by taking lipitor, a pill. It is not a virus and has nothing to do with blood to blood contact. I hope this helps you to understand. Her liver will likely go back to normal as soon as the lipitor is out of her body.
Avatar f tn Sorry I don't have Kaiser health insurance, maybe someone else here does, but those prices sound about right. Those are your "co-pay costs", the "actual cost" is thousands of dollars per month as you have heard. I had Blue Cross of California during treatment and my co-pay cost were similar to the prices you quoted.
Avatar f tn Everything is relative-- but yes, that is a large dose. Consider that Percocet tablets-- medications used to treat surgical pain in dose ranges of 1-2 every 4 hours-- contain 5-10 mg of oxycodone. You are taking the equivalent of 70 of the 5 mg tabs every day, when the dose after major surgery would be on the order of 5-10 tablets per day. The largest dose I've seen in a patient addicted to oxycodone is about 700 mg per day.
469720 tn?1388146349 Did you ever wonder how much it costs a drug company for the active ingredient in prescription medications? Some people think it must cost a lot, since many drugs sell for more than $2.00 per tablet. We did a search of offshore chemical synthesizers that supply the active ingredients found in drugs approved by the FDA. As we have revealed in past issues of Life Extension, a significant percentage of drugs sold in the United States contain active ingredients made in other countries.
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar m tn The Lipitor will cost me $130/mo., the Lovastatin will cost $5/mo. Aside from the obvious cost difference, which RX is better? The bottom line is that I really do not want to take a statin at all BUT if I have to take one, I want to take what will work the best at lowering my LDL levels. Also, if I've been taking a statin for a few months, can I just stop taking it? What happens if I stop?
Avatar n tn I later restarted Lipitor at a lower dose because all research and studies strongly suggest statins, and especially Lipitor, have beneficial effects upon cardiac, vascular, and brain function, and at the lower dose I haven't had any ill effects... but again, I can't say (and my docs can't say) if my original symptoms were because of Lipitor or "adjusting" to a new metabolism or what... That's the total of my two cents...
Avatar f tn I was getting ready to go to bed, grabbed a pill bottle and ended up taking my beta blocker instead of my lipitor. My mind was a million miles away and I realized what I had done as soon as I swallowed it but it was too late. I had been taking my beta blocker in the morning. So instead of taking another beta blocker in the morning I waited and took it in the evening. I am on once daily dosing. Since then I have taken it in the evening.
Avatar n tn However I have had a hard time controlling my LDL level. I reacted to Lipitor and have had some luck with zetia but now I am using red yeast rice which had kept my levels around 100 when I was clean in my diet, which is hard to do in Mx. I am 56 and in very good shape with a body fat of about 17%. I just had a lipid panel done and here are my numbers: HDL 113, LDL 131, Trg 36. My HDLs have always been very high, but never this high. I don't smoke, my BP runs 115/70 on average.
