Avatar f tn I have been given Plavix and aspirin from the onset and I am still on it. I have been experiencing muscle weakness and numbness/tingling to left side of body and I worry that it is another TIA but then consider that it could also be a side-effect of Lipitor. Is there a contraindication for taking all these drugs at the same time given my medical history? thanks for any info you can provide.
Avatar n tn CPK is found in skeletal muscle and myocardium (heart muscle). Lipitor can cause various levels of elevation and associated symptoms like muscle aches, weakness and atrophy. The elevated CPK may be of no consequence or it may cause serious problems depending upon the degree of elevation and the symptoms. A severely elevated CPK can cause liver damage. I would consult with your physician to determine if this is a new finding.
Avatar f tn Im having trouble with itching, leg weakness, one doctor took me off Lipitor 20m. It stopped for a month Then it came back after a few months. Now my heart doctor is trying it at 10m. Every other day. Now the itching is gone but and the weakness in my legs . But bottom of my feet feel funny! Not pain ! Not hot! I take my Lipitor at night. I go to the gym a few times a week.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
Avatar f tn My CK test results showed an elevation which she said indicated muscle damage and asked me to stop the Lipitor immediately and return in 2 months for another cholestrol and blood test. It is two weeks since I stopped the Lipitor but I am still feeling an imbalance sometimes and I still cannot walk anywhere near the 5kilometers I was walking earlier. Is this muscle weakness and feelings of imbalance likely to reverse themselves after a few more weeks.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar f tn I have also observed, even in my family, that statins cause GI issues, muscle weakness and pain, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease and other cognitive issues. Here is my advice: don't worry about your cholesterol levels, and find ways to relax and enjoy life because many conditions, including IBS, are caused by anxiety and depression.
Avatar m tn At about 4 months after surgery, I changed statin and antacid medicines to Lipitor (80) and Nexium. Two weeks later, I started experiencing mild aching in the upper chest/esophogus area--a mild form of my heart attack/angina symptoms. I switched back to Aciphex at that time, but remained on Lipitor. At the six month after surgery point, I underwent a stress radionuclide test and another heart catheterization (required by my job). Both tests showed no problems.
Avatar n tn Remember that these drugs [statins] are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10.
Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
Avatar f tn His doctor started him on Lipitor 20 mg. After a few months he can hardly move-- his joints ache and he is getting new joint injuries daily-- (knuckels are swelling--arm muscle injury won't heal--).. His doctor stopped the meds, waited a week, then started at lower dose. Same results, He went from a vibrant energetic man to a slow limping man in a few months. What injuries is this medication doing to his joints? Might they be permanent? Does the Lipitor dissolve the calcifications?
Avatar n tn On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
10996785 tn?1432812977 s from detox, pneumonia, and a stroke. with the stroke, which is considered small and deep in my cerebellum, my vision and balance was effected. My balance was already damage from the benzo's and alcohol abuse. Lately some of you might have read my last thread that I haven't been feeling well. Actually I haven't felt well for a very long time. I did see my PCP yesterday and we all agreed that the trazodone was the one med that was making me very sluggish.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
329165 tn?1515471990 I know that I have high family Cholestorol (fasting lipo 6,9 and my LDL is 4,5) and my mom suffers from Ischemic Heart desease and diabetes... I was on a generic of Lipitor and GP is not happy with Cholestorol being so high. GP wants me to go back to EP and get Pacemaker implanted! I can only see my Cardio in March 2008. I am sooooooooooo scared of Pacemaker and I don't have the time in my life for being sick.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
Avatar n tn If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?
Avatar m tn I switch my statin to lipitor 20mg about a month ago and I have noticed that my upper arms muscles gave me a very unusual pain especially when I stretch them even a little. Since than I have gain almost 2kg. What should I do. My next medical appointment is in July. To go to the emergency or to seek for another doctor?
Avatar m tn i have this neck back and chest pain do you think i have because i take lipitor 40 mg pleae let emknow .
Avatar m tn I know that Lipotor can artiificially lower TSH and cause a false positive for hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn I was taken to the ER, where they ruled out heart attack or stroke. They gave me fluids and Zofran and sent me home. Last night, watching TV in bed in an air-conditioned room, it happened again. Consequently, I had trouble sleeping and feel shaky this morning and have a pulsating feeling on the top of my skull. What could this be?
Avatar n tn I'd a hepatitis C group 3 so that my treatment was started since August 2009. Unfortunately, I had had cirrhosis already and doctor said that a likelihood to be cured against Hep C was 40 to 60%. However, I was a good responder to Pegasis and Ribovirin, so even though I started with 320 K virus load, I'd only 600 viruses by the week for. From the week 12 to now I'm clean. Doctors extended my treatment to 72 weeks. Thanks G-d I was not suffering to much and still working.
