Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and muscle aches

lipitor

Avatar m tn At about 4 months after surgery, I changed statin and antacid medicines to Lipitor (80) and Nexium. Two weeks later, I started experiencing mild aching in the upper chest/esophogus area--a mild form of my heart attack/angina symptoms. I switched back to Aciphex at that time, but remained on Lipitor. At the six month after surgery point, I underwent a stress radionuclide test and another heart catheterization (required by my job). Both tests showed no problems.
Avatar n tn * Severe muscle aching throughout the entire body * Muscle weakness * Dark or cola-colored urine These symptoms usually occur in the first 90 days of treatment and happen in less than 1% of those taking Lipitor. If you notice moderate or severe muscle aches after starting to take a statin, contact your doctor. If you have signs and symptoms of rhabdomyolysis, stop taking your statin medication immediately and seek medical treatment right away.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Hi buddy! My husband is on Lipitor, and was getting muscle aches...he started taking Co-Q10 (you can buy it at any drug store) and it helped a LOT...The only problem is that it can be expensive. I'm looking into buying it online...
Avatar m tn From the very onset of use of statin drugs for their powerful cholesterol lowering effect, muscle aches and pains reflecting possible underlying muscle inflammation....Lipitor and Vytorin most probable. Some doctors don’t believe that statins can cause side effects such as muscle or joint pain or memory problems. Others have seen so many cases they have developed different strategies for lowering cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Headache is not an uncommon side affect of Lipitor. Other reported side affects include muscle aches, tenderness and weakness. Avatar n tn CPK is found in skeletal muscle and myocardium (heart muscle). Lipitor can cause various levels of elevation and associated symptoms like muscle aches, weakness and atrophy. The elevated CPK may be of no consequence or it may cause serious problems depending upon the degree of elevation and the symptoms. A severely elevated CPK can cause liver damage. I would consult with your physician to determine if this is a new finding.
Avatar f tn Lipitor can cause muscle aches and pains but I don't believe going off of it would cause you continued distress. CoQ10 an enzyme that helps the muscles is a good idea to take when on Lipitor and when withdrawing from. It is good for people with FM to also take Omega 3, magnesium, and Calcium with D.
Tbd I had problems with aches and pains with Lipitor and switched. It reduced the amount of aches and pains, however try to add COQ10 with your meds. I have found that it helps a lot.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabdamolysis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is 125 (micro-mg) 1 tablet a day. I take my Synthroid early in the morning and metmorphin after meals and lipitor in the night. It looks like for the last 3-4 months my weight has come to 55kg. I think last year my weight was 59kg. So what could be the reason for my weight loss? I walk everyday, my diet is good and healthy, my times for eating meals are very much on time, I am a strict vegetarian, milk, once a week tofu are the main sources of protiens.
Avatar f tn Hi there and welcome. These are good questions to discuss with your prescribing doctor. There are several in the class of cholesterol lowering medications that lipitor is in and there are a couple of adjust therapies that maybe would help as well. Your doctor will be the best to help guide you. Is it your LDL cholesterol that you are trying to lower?
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar n tn headache, constipation/diarrhea, upset stomach and stomach pain, muscle and joint pain and rash. These varies from one patient to another. It could be that the rash you experienced looked like hives. (Although stress can also lead to hives). You can relate your experience at this link to the manufacturers to better address it : http://www.lipitor.com/about-lipitor/side-effects.aspx Take care and regards.
329994 tn?1301663248 This is a question to those of you with CFS. I have been having aches in my ankles and legs, hard to describe but an all over aching and I have to move them around to make it feel better. My cardio doc thought it might be the Lipitor and it did get better off the Lipitor but hasn't gone away. I do notice it during the day but more at night when I am lying in bed. I just wonder if this is a symptom of CFS? Do others have it?
Avatar f tn Thank you. I'm on my third statin, Pravastatin, because I couldn't tolerate Lipitor or Crestor (severe muscle aches). I was allowed to stop statins entirely for a month, but had to go back on them as my cholesterol shot up, even though I'm careful with my diet and am exercising. I have a family history on both sides of very high cholesterol, and my doctor said you can't do anything about genetics. I will pick up some CoQ10 immediately.
Avatar f tn 10 mg/day of atorvastain (generic versin of Lipitor.) I started having muscle aches, so I take Co-Q10 every night (200 mgs.) It helps, but truth be told, I'm always in pain all over my body; I just suck it up (I have high pain tolerance.) But back to the subject of my post: Since I started the statin, but stomach and bowels are a mess. I've always suffered with IBS, but through diet and exercise it was well under control for the past 20 years.
Avatar f tn Statin-associated myalgia, or muscle pain and aches, is a common side effect of the popular cholesterol-lowering agents. In clinical trials, about 1.5 - 3% of the patients reported the adverse effect. However, now it is believed that the incidence report may be as high as 10 - 20% post-marketing. Myalgia is more common with patients who are older, Asian, female, and those with lower body mass. Other factors include overt physical activities and alcohol abuse.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Lipitor for high cholesterol in 1997. In 2001, following a sleep study, I was found to have restless leg syndrom and prescribed Sinemet for the symptoms. Over the years the symptoms increased, and I now have severe lower back and neck pain, joint pain (especially knees) and my RLS has become more pronounced. I now have the symptoms beginning much earlier in the day, so have had to increase the use of Sinemet.
Avatar f tn But they came back down into normal range by the next reading about 2 months later and have stayed normal since. Symptoms include tired and muscle aches, but he also has low testosterone due to testicular failure which could be causing these symptoms as well He testsed positive and then it was confirmed on another test for antibodies with a 1.5 s/co ratio. Anyone know what the ration means? Is this really high for antibodies?
Avatar f tn Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?
Avatar n tn The lipitor caused my severe muscle pains and aches and raised my CPK levels, to the point I would be in tears by the time I left work each day. Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins. Finally found a great doctor who decided to try me on dual meds, that being Zocor, still at 60 mg daily, and 2000 mg niaspan.
Avatar f tn t remember, then Crestor, and now something else, but the doctor keeps changing due to complications it causes. He had some bad muscle and joint aches and it was a side effect of the medication, however they left him on for 1 month to 6 weeks and did lots of blood work to determine each time before they took him off, but his dr says if there are any achy side effects to write it down and give it a couple of days and then make an appointment to discuss them. So perhaps you can do that.
Avatar m tn Muscle aches and pains or even burning and tingling can be due to Lipitor. This drug can cause kidney and liver dysfunction and this may cause the feeling of internal shakiness. I suggest you get a kidney and liver function test and talk to your doctor regarding all this being due to Lipitor. It is difficult to bring down a BP of 155/110 by diet and exercise only. However if there is an underlying cause such as kidney or liver problem, then treating the cause may help.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Elevated blood sugar levels have been reported with statins, including LIPITOR. Common side effects are diarrhea, upset stomach, muscle and joint pain, and changes in some blood tests. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have side effects that bother you or that will not go away.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar f tn I have been given Plavix and aspirin from the onset and I am still on it. I have been experiencing muscle weakness and numbness/tingling to left side of body and I worry that it is another TIA but then consider that it could also be a side-effect of Lipitor. Is there a contraindication for taking all these drugs at the same time given my medical history? thanks for any info you can provide.
Avatar f tn His doctor started him on Lipitor 20 mg. After a few months he can hardly move-- his joints ache and he is getting new joint injuries daily-- (knuckels are swelling--arm muscle injury won't heal--).. His doctor stopped the meds, waited a week, then started at lower dose. Same results, He went from a vibrant energetic man to a slow limping man in a few months. What injuries is this medication doing to his joints? Might they be permanent? Does the Lipitor dissolve the calcifications?
