I take Lipitor (10mg once a day), Toprol (50 mg twice a day), HCTZ (25mg once a day), and Wellbutrin XL (150 mg once a day). I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My cholesterol is under control but my blood pressure sometimes spikes. I just having been feeling like myself and I'm getting worried that something's going on that is hidden. Do you have any ideas what might be going on?
Here is what's interesting. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was given 20mg of Lipitor. A few weeks after I began a consistent regiment, I was in the E.R. with BP 153/101. And it happened again 3 months later, then again after I stopped taking it for 6 months and started again. 4 weeks after I started taking it regularly after the long stoppage I was back in the hospital after for high blood pressure, palpations, chest pains.and headache.

All tests says I am not having a heart attack, but with my blood pressure being high it is making my left side of my heart to struggle and causing my heart walls to thicken.. That is why I am having chest pains. My other systems are, numbing in my left arm, pain in my left jaw and some pain in my back. My doctors continue to readjust my blood pressure medicine and says this should work… It has been a week since I was released from the hospital. The adjusting of my medicine is not working..

MY BACKRGROUND (AGE 56, HEIGHT 168 CM, 88 KILOS.
2002 Angioplasty for 70 percent blockage using catheritization (arm, Dr. Saito in Japan). No stent.
2006 no restenosis. 2008 Did CT scan radioactive dye and also no restenosis.
Age: 56--> Regimen: Lipitor 5 mg, baby aspirin, fish oil (about 3-4 grams).
Supplementing with Coenzyme Q10 has been shown in studies to decrease blood pressure slightly in those with high blood pressure. It has also been studied for slowing dementia, and reducing angina, symptoms associated with heart failure and other symptoms associated with heart -related illnesses.
I recommend Coen Q10 to all patients with cardiac disease regardless of the presence of myopathy, because I have seen significant benefit in my practice patients.

I am an 84 year old woman w/history of high blood pressure for the past 15 years. I have been treated w/numerous types of medication and my doctor has determined that the only drug that has stabilized my pressure to be 145/80 on average. Recent test now show a 167/80 to 185/80 range and my doctor has increased my previous 2 1/2mg. X 2 a day perscription to 5mg. X 2. After three days of new tx. I have had heavy palpatations and feeling uncomfortably warm in the early 3a.m. to 5 a.m.
There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.

Is your husbands cholesterol particularly high? If it is very high, then I suggest he takes the lipitor, if not, then a strict healthy diet can be as good. There are other risk factors which must be addressed, such as no smoking, avoiding as much stress as possible and regular exercise.
Lisinopril is a good ace inhibitor and is relatively inexpensive. Your blood pressure is not that low and actually could be a little lower. 120/72 is normal. People with heart disease need their blood pressure lower than normal. Diovan is a good blood pressure medication. The main thing is to take your medication as prescribed by your doctor now. Check with your doctor to see if the pains are related to the medications and if trying another beta blocker and ace inhibitor will help.
Heart discomforts can be in the back or in the front of the chest, so I would take the safe option and have him checked out. How is his blood pressure?

My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor,aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan. I am a male 40 years old, 6'0 275lbs being treated for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I do not smoke and I exercise moderately 4 times a week. Besides the exercise, I have a desk job 5 days a week getting little other exercise. Someone suggested that I consider a inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin. Recent blood work revealed cholesterol at 118 but CPK at 205 also I have been experiencing lower back pain.
I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
iv had 9 doctors already - not one of them knew the real cause of high blood pressure ,or what caused the spikes I had. Iv talked to meny natural health people about h.b.p , they say they know the reason for it, and cause of it ? well I was sold 3 $$$ items natural meds to take daily
to bring down b.p. I got sick from the stuff - b.p didnt drop at all .
worse part, I called the store and the person who sold the bag of goods

I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.

My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. I googled to see what I could find, and found this site saying that Lipitor can cause abnormal hair growth. http://www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/
