Avatar n tn Heart discomforts can be in the back or in the front of the chest, so I would take the safe option and have him checked out. How is his blood pressure? If they run tests and find nothing, ask for a 24hr or 48hr holter monitor. It's always the way when you go to hospital, nothing happens so nothing is detected.
Avatar f tn My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor, aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan. Avatar f tn Here is what's interesting. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was given 20mg of Lipitor. A few weeks after I began a consistent regiment, I was in the E.R. with BP 153/101. And it happened again 3 months later, then again after I stopped taking it for 6 months and started again. 4 weeks after I started taking it regularly after the long stoppage I was back in the hospital after for high blood pressure, palpations, chest pains.and headache.
Avatar n tn The numeric difference between your systolic and diastolic blood pressure is called your pulse pressure. For example, if your resting blood pressure is 120/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg), your pulse pressure is 40 — the difference between 120 and 80. Certain conditions can increase your pulse pressure. These include aortic valve disorders, severe anemia and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
Avatar n tn m. disturbing my sleep and causing me to be very anxious. My pressure was at 193/82 and 187/85 when I awoke with these symptoms. I currently take lipitor, synthroid, atenenol and furosamide. There has been no adjustments to these since increasing minoxidil. My diuretic is taken at the same time w/minoxidil at 6:30 am and again at 6:pm. My answer from the doctors office to my symptoms was to let it take it's course for another week.
Avatar n tn Supplementing with Coenzyme Q10 has been shown in studies to decrease blood pressure slightly in those with high blood pressure. It has also been studied for slowing dementia, and reducing angina, symptoms associated with heart failure and other symptoms associated with heart -related illnesses. I recommend Coen Q10 to all patients with cardiac disease regardless of the presence of myopathy, because I have seen significant benefit in my practice patients. The safety profile is very good.
Avatar m tn Lisinopril is a good ace inhibitor and is relatively inexpensive. Your blood pressure is not that low and actually could be a little lower. 120/72 is normal. People with heart disease need their blood pressure lower than normal. Diovan is a good blood pressure medication. The main thing is to take your medication as prescribed by your doctor now. Check with your doctor to see if the pains are related to the medications and if trying another beta blocker and ace inhibitor will help.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar m tn I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
Avatar f tn All tests says I am not having a heart attack, but with my blood pressure being high it is making my left side of my heart to struggle and causing my heart walls to thicken.. That is why I am having chest pains. My other systems are, numbing in my left arm, pain in my left jaw and some pain in my back. My doctors continue to readjust my blood pressure medicine and says this should work… It has been a week since I was released from the hospital. The adjusting of my medicine is not working..
Avatar m tn Beta blockers work in a number of different ways which include lowering blood pressure, preventing arrhythmias, and decreasing the stress of the heart (the latter two being the main reasons for why they are prescribed following a heart attack). ACE inhibitors also are prescribed for blood pressure, but also help prevent any negative remodeling of the heart (structurally) following a heart attack.
514510 tn?1272718736 Ok after the birth of my son 2 months ago, I devloped high blood pressure my readings will range 150/95. They put me on blood pressure medicine. Symptoms due to the high blood pressure is fatigue feeling I will faint headache nausea. I cannot even hold my new baby without feeling like I am going to pass out. My heartrate can jump to 140 and when I sit immediatly it goes into the 70's.
Avatar n tn I agree look around for a doc to test your blood to see if you may benefit from thyroid meds and not lipitor..
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar m tn The machine teaches you how to lower your blood pressure with a relaxation and breathing technique. It works exceptionally well, after a while you don't need the machine, once you have learned the method you can do it anywhere. I can now control my blood pressure somewhere in the 130's over 80's most of the time its about 128/80 still what the doctors are now saying is high but if my blood pressure drops any lower I can hardly move I am so fatigued.
Avatar f tn If it is very high, then I suggest he takes the lipitor, if not, then a strict healthy diet can be as good. Blood pressure is another key factor in the buildup of plaque, it must be kept normal which again may take medication such as ace inhibitors. There are other risk factors which must be addressed, such as no smoking, avoiding as much stress as possible and regular exercise. Anything above 70% is seen as severe so your husband is on the borderline and can be controlled with medication.
Avatar n tn I exercise, diet and take medications mentioned as part of an overall plan to control cholesterol and blood pressure! Is this elevated CPK of 268 something to be concerned about! What is considered a dangerouis level of CPK? Is it possible CPK is a result of exercising(running and weightlifting) or is it the cholesterol medications that's elevating my CPK? Appreciate yours expertise and thoughts on this matter, Thanks!!
Avatar m tn When a person has heart disease, the blood pressure needs to remain low. Your mom's blood pressure is not too low. As her blood builds back to where it should be, she may see an increase in her blood pressure. The main thing with heart disease is to keep the pressure down. Normal for an average person is 120/72. Doctors usually want it lower in people with heart disease. Her medications are needed to help her live a longer lifespan.
Avatar n tn On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
Avatar m tn Just so you know, on the maximal amount of Coreg and Lisinopril that your heart rate and blood pressure can handle, the heart muscle can get stronger and we can see the EF improve!!! I think you may have 15 years left to your heart but you need to be very careful and take all of your medications (never stop plavix again with all of the stents you have) as prescribed and continue exercising at least 30 min 3-4x per week.
