Lip implant problems

Common Questions and Answers about Lip implant problems

Avatar n tn ' I can only think that if the implant was put in via the mouth and afterwards the pocket inside your lower lip (vestibule) is much lower, then it may be that you need some more surgery to reattach the mentalis. This procedure is called 'mentalis resuspension.' You can google the term to find a plastic surgeon who specialises in this. The description of the your 'teeth hanging in front of the jaw bone" is not really clear.
Avatar n tn At only 2 1/2 weeks post chin implant, these problems are likely to resolve with time. If they are present in three to four months after surgery, that is another matter. Scarring post surgery is always its worst at four weeks. It is not uncommon to have early temprorary effect on the chin musculature, particularly if the implant was inserted via the intraoral route.
Avatar n tn I had my implant done in August 2013. After one week, my problems started with ear infection, imbalance, mild headache and muscle weakness. I am 55 yrs old and considered healthy before. I had an MRI and found new lesions like in MS patients. Had no family history and no other evidence for MS. The dentist I talked about this don't think it is from the implant. I haven't tested for titanium allergy. I just saw this site. Don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn This has resulted in a 100% improvement in the pain and feverish feeling emanating from THAT tooth, but I still have an strange irritating sensation emanating from the implant that extends to the cheek, nostril, and eye above the implant. I have a feeling the implant is the cause of the mouth trouble and wondering if it is the cause of my neurological symptoms as well. My physical activity has been reduced to a minimum compared to the level of physical activity previous to the surgery.
Avatar n tn hi, i have a similar lip skin patch, have had it for about a week. did you ever find out what was going on with yours? did it resolve on its own?
Avatar m tn Hello I need your help I'm a mother (37 years old) I had a otoplastic surgery but the doctor wanted to do a chin implant too.......I wasn't sure but he told me if I don"t like he can remove it and I would come back to my pre-op... Then ( 18 days later) I didn't like it and I ask him to remove it but he didn't do it. Instead, he put a little one (he accepted than the first one was to big for me)....
Avatar f tn Out of my 6 friends that have it, only one of them hasn't had problems with it. I haven't gotten it removed yet because I got BV (bacterial vaginosis) from it and need to get rid of the infection before I can get it taken out. When I first got Mirena I had horrible cramps that subsided after a couple months. Then I was okay with it, but started to notice a bad odor (which I now found out was probably a yeast infection or the BV).
Avatar n tn I received 2 implants in the lower jaw (pos. 34 and 35) early yesterday. My lower lip and chin area are still numb (feels like when dental injections are just about to wear off - except they don't). The implantologist says the nerves are not damaged and can apparently see this on the X-rays. He says the feeling will disappear over several days and is caused by the local anaesthetic. Qu. Can the aneasthetic (or the way it was administered) really be the cause?
222267 tn?1253305810 Titanium is the type of metal from which the implant is made. The implant is place into a hole in the bone which is sugically and purposefully created by the surgeon. Closure of oral wounds is usually done with local tissue flaps and in some cases a membrane may use as well as bone grafts. I hope this helps, but please understand that holes can occur anywhere in the palate and there are several anatomical spaces and vital structures that make a tremendous difference on the procedure.
Avatar n tn It is the last molar in the back, can it be attached to just one side. I am scared of getting an implant. I am so frustrated.
Avatar n tn After 7 more surgeries in an attempt to correct problems my mouth is still very numb and painful, it hurts to smile and stretch my lower side side of lip. Still not able to have implant plan finished. I have trouble speaking, and spit when I speak. I was forced to change dentist and Oral Surgeon. My new team are in shock, I have been told nerve damage, the pain, might not ever go away. Need bone graft and remove two implants that can not be used, they are at angles that prevent use.
Avatar m tn Double vision was apparent immediately upon waking up. There was also a numbness in my left nostril and top lip. An implant was put underneath the left eye. The injured eye seemed to bulge out and was completely reddened. I had very limited movement of the eye. I went to the emergency room a few days after surgery out of my concern and was told by the surgeon that everything was normal.
Avatar n tn they say that the dental work is not the cause of my ear problems. Recently, I have heard of dental cavitations. I am going to a neurologist next week (appt booked 6 months ago) If he is unable to help me, who can I turn to for help in this matter? After extensive research, I believe I do have a low grade infection in my jawbone. I live in Edmonton Alberta.
Avatar n tn and about a year ago head developed a twitch on the right side of his face with his lip and eye....his main injuries were on the right side...he has a steal rod from his hip all the way down....but today he called and wanted me to find out why his left hip would be tingling and hurting bothers me because his brain injuries was most all on the right side...but its only the left hip that is causing him these problems..he is 26 now and as his Mom I am losing ...
Avatar m tn A metal post was put in my my mouth to secure my tooth as a temporary measure (which should last 2-3 years) before I have to get an implant. The last few days my front tooth has been sensitive and painful, which is weird because all the nerves have been dead for about 9 years, I have had hundreds of hours at the dentist getting bridge work, a root canal and getting it capped 20 or so times.
Avatar f tn Titanium implant fixture is a time proven treatment modality.
Avatar f tn didn't do at another implant specialist. Since then I'm had tiny pimples on my upper lip. By 2010 I had a full-blown rash all over my face. I called them to ask what the materials were & they never returned my call. I called in 2011 & they told me they were titanium & hung up. Today in 2013 I still have this same rash.
1819855 tn?1317140999 Do you know if a zirconium implant will be a better choice versus a Titanium implant or the damage of an implant is matter what material is it made of? I am asking because I am researching this subject for months now and I KNOW, in Europe now (I was born there but had been living in North America for many many years) dentists use more and more the zirconium implants. My main problem is making this decision of having...
Avatar f tn I woke up on monday morning in extreme pain and with a completely swollen top lip, stretched nose and puffy cheek. Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large).
Avatar n tn I switched to generic in December and no problems for Dec and January. Middle of Feb..The first day I had a strange visual effect. Rapid "stars" shooting outward while driving. Next day I started having preassure under my ribs, One of my friends is a surgeon and he felt it might be gallstones. Very uncomfortable by next day, when I had a normal GB US. Saturday I did about 15 minutes of yard work, became overly fatigued, went inside to rest and wound up taking a nap.
Avatar n tn I still don't have pain but I feel some tenderness on the right side of my face around the area where the upper-lip ends and the cheekbone begins. That has gotten me very worried especially after reading others' case histories on the web and in this forum. I have an appointment coming up to see my dentist on 12/16/2008. What are some of the questions I should be asking him? Shouldn't he have anticipated these developments? Should I be looking for a new dentist?
Avatar n tn In addditon, the local anesthsia used can get poked into your nerves and also cause problems. I know the problems have to be from the root canal, because, the exact same symptoms are mentioned from several posts on the internet, and they're from root canals. I'm still not sure what to do about mine. The options for replacing the tooth aren't that great, and very expensive. And friends and family act like it's the end of the world if I have the tooth pulled.
Avatar f tn I was treated for breast cancer in 2006, having several surgeries, and four rounds of chemotherapy. I had a mastectomy and now have a saline implant in one breast. Eight years ago I went through a clinical depression, and was on anti-depressants for about 2 years. At that time I first experienced internal vibrations, sort of like a sudden motor turning on inside of me, which only lasted a few seconds, and only for a few episodes in the morning.
660300 tn?1224793961 Numbness to the lip and chin is damage to the inferior alveolar nerve. Damage to the lingual nerve causes problems with the tongue. If you had a tooth extraction and have NO feeling, it is POSSIBLE that you nerve was severed. If you have some feeling, the nerve is likely damaged or just disrupted. For extracted teeth issues, see an oral surgeon. For root canals, go to an endodontist if a general dentist did the root canal. Go to an oral surgeon if an endodontist did the root canal.
Avatar f tn I had a bone graft months before the implant, and some of my own bone scraped from near the implant to graft, right when the implant was done. I sure wish I knew what the connection is with dental seems to be a common thread. I've asked my dentist, the endodontist who did the implant, my doctor. I have tried acupuncture and chiropractic...on the theory it was caused by my allergies. My allergies (both seasonal rhinitis and food allergies) are pretty much a non-issue now...
Avatar n tn Her body rejected her tongue piercing and she ended up having a lot of problems, which took awhile to take care of. She was in a lot of pain, long after the piercing was removed. She has a hard time talking and eating and it was very painful. If I were you, I wouldn't take the chance of piercing your tongue. Tongue piercings aren't nice to look at and it's not worth causing yourself all kinds of health problems.
Avatar n tn I'd strongly advise you to wait on one or the other. Implant surgery is a long and involved process and with all the possible sides from tx, that could really be difficult to try to deal with both. Also your immune system's ability to fight infrection and your recovery time can be slowed by tx. I'd either do the tx and then when you are done do the implants or vica versa but I wouldn't do both at the same time.
Avatar n tn I have not seen patients before with problems after platic surgery. However, if you wanted to have this evaluated further, I would recommend seeing a neurologist who can perform a detailed examination. He/she may want to perform a nerve conduction study of the facial nerve to determine if it is working properly. Good luck.
1471920 tn?1286831137 I sustained some nerve damage during a wisdom tooth extraction many years ago, and was told to increase my intake of B vitamins, especially B6, but no other advice was given. That area of my lip and gums remained numb for years. The numbness is gone now, but I have a reduced sensation of pain in that area, so I would describe it as partially healed. Actually, I think, experimentally, NGF was found to heal wounds - ulcers, fractures etc. at an accelerated rate.
