because the bulky area underneath my upper left lip, every time when I smile, that part of lip become thick and relative big when compare to the right side of my upper lip as the bulky surgical area underneath the lip push against the lip when I smile.
will this be permanent? or it is too early to say now and bulkyness could reduce over time as time pass by and my smile will become normal? Thanks.

I had a dental implant in the mandible 6 months ago. After complaining of tingling sensations & numbness in the chin & lip, forward to where the implant is, the oral surgeon replaced it with a shorter one after one month. Another 5 months have passed, it has healed nicely & a crown has been attached by my dentist. The tingling is still there. When I touch my chin, my chin & lip tingle. After a routine cleaning & the crown, it seems a little bit worse.
Now that your implant is out, the implant pocket has essentially closed and healed down to the underlying muscle and chest wall. Re-creation of a new pocket can be achieved without regard to the old pocket. In other words, re-operation on that side is essentially starting from scratch, so that the pocket can be created in a proper position. The use of alloderm or strattice would not be required.
I have had an implant about 1 1/2 years ago. Right after the implant was placed I experienced burning especially on the tip of my tongue and a battery like taste in my mouth. I first thought it was the material of the provisional dental prosthesis and hoped for a relief after the fixture of the dentures. However the battery like taste as well as the burning has not stopped since. Could it be that I have an allergy against the used material titanium?
Is there anybody else with this symptoms??
A couple days later I called my oral surgeon and told him that my left chin and lower lip are numb. He asked me to come to the office to back out the implant a millimeter or two because it might be touching a nerve. On 5/23 the oral surgeon backed out implants #31 and #29. He did tell me that he suspected that implant #29 was possibly compressing a nerve area. Today is 5/30 and the numbness has not gone. Area around tooth #28, #27 and # 26 is very numb (lower lip and chin only).
I had a chin implant placed exactly one year ago following 2 surgeries to bring my lower jaw forward. My chin since the first surgery has always been numb in spots but I always got my huge smile back. Following the chin implant I do not have as big of a smile. He secured the chin implant to the titanium plates used on my jaw surgery which made me mad. Since he used those the chin implant isnt even, even with my real chin it sits up a tiny bit and its not centered.
There was a 4 month period for the bone graft to properly provide supporting bone material before the implant. A month later after the 1st bone graft, I had a second extraction that required bone grafting. This was number 2. We then implanted the 1st device. After a week the preliminary examination was very positive. Then a week later I was able to manually pull the device out, it was that loose. We believed at the time that it was a failure in the device.
I have had one implants removed due to terrible pain from the implant sticking into my lower lip. Now the left side of my chin and lower lip is so painful I leave my dentures out most of the time. I keep them in while at work, but I'm in misery all day. There is severe pain in my upper gums at night. I sleep with my head elevated to an almost sitting position. My dentist and oral surgeon don't have any suggestions. Is there anything I can do to relieve the discomfort?
People mention only Titanium as if Titanium is the only material used for implant post. As I looked into it more and more, I find that there are so many companies who make the posts in so many shapes, and some of them have other metals mixed into Titanium. I would recommend you to find out exactly what your post are made of. For example, when I asked one of my dentist what she uses are made of, she said Titanium, aluminum and something else (I forgot).
m living in Korea atm, in need to treatment, and deciding between two clinics-
After radiological and photographical imaging, one quoted roughly $1500-1600 worth of work, encompassing 2 inlays (fillings, I assume), one implant, 2 crowns (pushing gold; $350-400 per crown), 3 scalings (smoker here), and 2 upper wisdom teeth extractions.
From the x-ray of my implant, I found that my implant is too close to tooth #9 and the bone in between my implant and tooth #9 not grow much to integrate with the implant.
I could also see the implant through my front gum, the gray color show off.
I deeply worried and began to consult with some oral surgeons and some implant specialist. When they see the x-ray, all their first reaction is: This implant is not good. So, I took a CT Scan to see the implant 3-dimension.
I had Crowns placed on my implant abutments on 4/8/2010 ( yesterday). The teeth involved are 28 ,29 and 30. The space between the implants and gum on the outside is so large that I can see the metal abutments. The inside portion of the three fused implants look great, right to the gumline. The Dentist says that there is no problem and gave me a special toothbrush kit to clean out and food that would accumulate under the implants.
I am not happy with the job and want it redone properly.
I start notice bad smell and the sour taste. 4 month after bone graft, Sugeon try to place implant but it not ready because bone graft still vibrate. He closed it up and patted a soft tissue to cover the expose area, but it failed. I had that piece of tissue removed and leaved the bone draft open about 6 weeks. It smell very bad. Now, implant had placed 2 week aready, but there is not alot soft tissue around it, so it expose again and smell very bad.
Had implant surgery 7/07 (2 upper; 5 lower). Procedure was a 15 hr ordeal. After several months and numerous addt'l procedures, I thought the worst part was over. I was wrong--but I couldn't necessarily attribute it to the implant surgery, but now I'm beginning to wonder. - I woke up one morning in May 08 and saw that the left side of my face was swollen (inside and out). Went to primary care doctor who ordered MRI, CT scan and blood tests. All results were normal.

I'm a mother (37 years old) I had a otoplastic surgery but the doctor wanted to do a chin implant too.......I wasn't sure but he told me if I don"t like he can remove it and I would come back to my pre-op...
Then ( 18 days later) I didn't like it and I ask him to remove it but he didn't do it. Instead, he put a little one (he accepted than the first one was to big for me)....
One piece IOLs have the optic and the two struts that hold it in place (haptics) carved from a single piece of plastic, silicon or other material. In a 3 piece there are two haptics and one optic that are fastened together. The thickness, weight, diameter and power are every similiar.
I am not a bio-engineer so I cannnot tell you why different manufacturering techniques are used.
1. I believe that the Tecnis lens comes in acrylic and some another material. Which material might be best for the long run? Which would be easier to explant, several years later, in the event that this surgical procedure is necessary?
2. Are there any longitudinall clinical studies which reveal how long Tecnis lens implants retain their physical integrity? (Any longitudinal lens implant information will be much appreciated.
I am a 19 year old male, I have never been very good about brushing my teeth, but never have needed major dental work. Recently, I have noticed very slight small bit of whitish material underneath my top lip, directly on the underside of where the left side and right side of my top lip come together. I think it might be oral thrush but am not sure. The other day, I was eating some raw lemons and there was a slight irritating feeling where I mentioned what I thought was oral thrush.
s opinion, if two three pontic bridges supported by a capped canine tooth and an implant in the lateral position, would not be preferable to a four part bridge supported by three implants and then have the canine teeth crowned separately.
Would the natural canine teeth and implants in the lateral position next to them, supporting a three part bridge, be stronger than a single four part one?
Any information and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

implants are the closest restoration to a natural tooth. the procedure cost more than most others which is why many insurance plans dont cover it. they want you to go with a cheaper option. i would not get an implant from a dental school. since this procedure is more difficult than a simple filling and such i would want to go to a dentist that has lots of previous experience. this would decrease the risk of something going wrong.
Thank you Scottma for your help. I went to an oral surgeon a second opinion and he took several xrays. He showed me xrays and explained that the implant had entered an area of many nerves. He told me to have it removed immediately and even called the dentist that put the implant in. I then went and saw the dentist that put in the implant and he also took xrays.
