A year ago, I had routine knee surgery and when I woke up my throat was sore. The anesthesiologist told me it would be sore for a day or son because she had to use "too big of a tube," she didn't have one that fit down my throat. Oky, well, I didn't think anything of it, but literally two days later I was sicker than a dog. Vomiting so horrible I had to walk around with a trash can!

Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!

Thanks for the tips! It seems to have turned into just a really nasty cold at this point. The horrible "swallowing knives" throat seems to have gone away and been replaced by congestion, runny nose, headache, and all the other classic cold symptoms. I've never had a cold start out with such a horrible sore throat before!

I have had a sore throat for a month now. I took azithromycin, the 5 days course, but it did not help. I had also taken clindamycin a week before due to also having a uti. I noticed that the sore throat cleared up a little while on clindamycin, but it returned. When I had gone to my doctor after two weeks of having a sore throat, she told me that she guesses that it is tonsillitis, but the test came back negative for an infection.

I went to see my doctor on day 5, tested negative for strep. He gave me some lidocaine oral rinse to numb the throat pain so I can get some sleep and some codeine based cough meds. But he said this is viral, I'd have to wait for it to run its course. Problem is with the trip coming up, I cannot afford to wait much longer. I'm also quite anemic. Sometimes I wonder if that's what's prolonging my illness.

I felt so tired, i got a fever and burning pain when i was urinating. doctor diagnosed me with UTI. Also I got a sore on the back of my throat. For my UTI doctor prescribe me amoxicillin and for my sore lidocaine viscous. On saturday night i noticed that i have a sore around vagina area. The sore is circle shaped red and looks it is fill with puss. Today i woke up i found 5 new sores. Are they herpes. Im freaking out .

for the past 16 days I have had an extremely sore throat. it started off mild enough. dr put me on amoxil for 7 days. finished it up, by the time I finished it, my throat was worse. then i was prescribed biaxin xl for 10 days, today is day number 10 and the past 2 days i have felt like i'm swallowing razor blades (no exaggeration) when i swallow drink or eat, it's so painful. tylenol and naproxen are no longer working.

I had the one under the tongue at the back of throat and thought I had a sore throatuntil others appeared in one cheek area. Used Biotene mouthwash 3-4 times a day and they started to clear up.. Also had lidocaine swish by prescription to paint on before eating. Didn't 'swish' in mouth because didn't want to bite myself with a numb tongue. It takes a few days for them to start to clear.

I agree with AnnieBrooke - you need to be seen by a different doctor! And preferably an ear, nose and throat doc! When you have a throat so sore that you can barely swallow, can't eat at all and have ulcers on your tonsils, SOMETHING definitely needs to be done! Did your doc even bother to do a strep test or anything? Strep throat can also cause ulcers in the throat and mouth and strep is definitely something that neeeds to be treated with antibiotics.

t give time for the lidocaine to set in before he began the procedure. After the 3rd biopsy I told him we were going to have to stop the test because of the pain. At that point he told the nurse to give more lidocaine. After the 2nd shot it became bearable but he was still very rough in his technique Besides the bruising and soreness, I experienced ear pain yesterday and today my throat and esophagus feel strange. My gums feel as though I have flossed them vigorously in that they feel swollen.

Hi Growzer, I'm in Canada, too. Do you have access to a walk-in clinic? Most docs know about Magic Mouthwash. You can also make it yourself in a pinch: equal parts Mylanta, children's Benadryl and viscous lidocaine. The lidocaine can be purchased without a prescription (it's kept behind the counter). Keep in a clean bottle in the fridge, shake well before using as needed. This will tide you over until Tuesday.

No test for mono, just swollen lymph nodes and tonsils. I had a big scare it was form hiv but im negative on that thankgod. If its mono, then what do i do? does it go away on its own.

I just had one on Monday and it was not bad at all. I had no lidocaine, and I barely felt the needle poke for the biopsy. It was done by a surgical oncologist, and the whole thing took about 10 minutes. He held the US in one hand, the needle in the other- and was done very quickly. I am a dentist wimp ( seriously). I would take another FNA over the dentist anyday. I'm so sorry you had a bad experinece. Hope your next one is easy for you!

i have been experiening tight throat for the past week. I suffer form generalized anxiety from time to time. I took a benedryl thinking it might be alergies but after i eat it tends to get worse. I don't have a problem eating or drinking. Is this acid reflux? Or allergies? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/608658'>Tight throat</a>.

Most are ok as above post but there are some on the community whose hurt alot .. usually it isn't too bad .. actually, usually less than a dentist needle is what I found to be in my case.

There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.

Hi and so sorry you have this problem. Do you have pus in your throat and/o a high fever? There is an anaerobic (grows without oxygen) bacteria that can be in your throat normally or can cause chronic sore throat. It is called Fusobacterium necrophorum. It isn't always seen in the throat and the regular antibiotics wouldn't work on it You may need metronidazole. That is if you are not allergic to it.

I have been using biotene toothpaste and mouthwash which helps to keep a pH balance in the mouth. There is also a perscription you can get for "magic mouthwash." Among other things it contains lidocaine which helps numb your mouth. I did ask my pharmacist about it and he is familar with it but it does need a script. So far with the biotene, I have held my mouth in check.....(lol: some of my family members might disagree with that statement)! Good luck.

hi there, go call you physician or dentist and ask for a prescription of benadryl, maalox, and lidocaine. It is commonly known as the "magic mouthwash" and I used to prescribe it all the time for patients going through chemo or had systemic diseases that created chronic apthous ulcers (aka canker sores.) If for some reason you can't get to the dr., use the combination of equal parts liquid benadryl and maalox (or mylanta) gargle and swish for 60 seconds then spit..

I have a hole in the cartilage of my nose the size of an pencil eraser and it hurts like hell everyday! I have tried all nasal gels, all otc medications for pain, I even sprayed bactine up my nose last night hoping it would numb the pain. It did for a few mins then started hurting again. I can't sleep, I have a sore throat constantly I think because of too much air that goes to my throat when I breathe through my nose. This is the worst pain ever.

Along with all the other crappy side effects, all of a sudden my tongue gets red and irritated and stays that way. Also, the back of my throat is very sore. So I called my perpetually upbeat nurse and she suggest I have Thrush Mouth, which reminds me of an old Zappa tune called Stink Foot. Sorry... Now I am taking a throat lozenge named Clotrimazole. It isn't working. Has anyone else experienced "Cracked Tongue Syndrome"? How did relief come?

My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.

Once symptoms start to get better, they tend to improve rapidly. She'll probably be a lot better by Monday.
