1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
1641422 tn?1300798618 I was diagnosed as acutely positive for Herpes Zostra NOS (shingles). The swelling seems to be much worse internally in the evening, making it difficult to sit without a great deal of pain. The doctor prescribed Prednisone, Valtrex, and Lidocaine they all help but none are stopping the evening pain making it very hard to sleep.
Avatar f tn I also had shingles. I had to take Lyrica 50 mg twice a day for 2 months. It did help with the pain. It has been a year since my outbreak and I still get twinges of pain at the rash site if I get stressed at work.
Avatar f tn For the past 2 months I have been trying to deal with shingles I have had them in my left eye and going up into my forhead and hair. I have finally been told the eye is doing well but the pain is terrible. the only relief I get is to hold a wet cloth over that part of my face. The itching is unberable at time I feel I could reach in and pull the eye out.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you very much for your question. Post herpetic neuralgia appears at skin after the outbreak of shingles (herpes). It starts when herpes crusted over and in fact it may even appear after absence of herpes virus. It will be best that you consult a neurologist and treatment options could be anticonvulsants such as gabapentin, antideprassants and topical lidocaine lotion.
Avatar n tn This is most probably post herpetic neuralgia or persistent nerve pain due to shingles. Shingles is caused by herpes-varicella zoster virus and is an infection of a nerve and the area of skin around it. If the pain caused by shingles continues after shingles is over within few weeks, this is called post herpetic neuralgia. The incidence is more common in elderly and is seen in about one fifth. The nerve damage caused by shingles disrupts the proper functioning of the nerve.
Avatar f tn t know if your doctor would approve but there is a patch called a Lidoderm patch that was created by a doctor for his wife who was suffering from shingles. It is not a narcotic, just a lidocaine patch. It works really well for pain in a specific area, they can even be cut and placed on various spots. I have one on my shoulder right now and it is helping with the pain.
Avatar f tn Hello, Since the rash is painful, it is more likely a shingles rash. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. The first sign is usually a tingling feeling, itchiness, or stabbing pain on the skin. After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face. The rash develops into small, fluid-filled blisters which begin to dry out and crust over within several days.
Avatar f tn Shingles are exxxxxxxtremly painful--. Take a photo of your face, lips when it breaks out. Then take it to an infectious disease doctor vs. dermatologist--he/she will know either way what's going on with you. You could be highly allergic to s/thing in the salon. Photo will show dr.a good view of your problem.
Avatar m tn what kind of medication can be used for a split in between, the buttocks.it goes away,& then out of no where it appears again.there is some bleeding, not a lot.it is painful, like someone cut you with a knife! what is this called & how can it be prevented?
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar f tn The only other time I have experienced any redness is from giving myself contact dermatitis in my vagina from too much aspercream with lidocaine down there. Am now just using coconut oil with lidocaine for pain and started a ssri. Saw a pain doctor who believes my pain is viral in nature-maybe shingles recurrence (which I have had in the past but not in groin area). Have you ever heard of any cases of herpes like this??
Avatar n tn m to young for shingles and PHN. I had dx myself. I have everything for PHN. I have had lower back surgery and right after that maybe a yr later I started with the painful, burning, itching stabbing on my arm. I was given last yr a viral med and it did go away from last June to Feb of this yr. I will be trying to give him a call in NY to see if he will call me in a Rx as I live in FL now. I hope because I did get a milder outbrake but the Dr down here wont give it to me.
Avatar m tn Nearly fainted while I was at the gym which then turned into constant lightheadedness for now its 5th month. I had a shingles approximately a week after the episode. Our cases seem similar so I was hoping you had some input and suggestions to help. Did the B1 supplements help at all too? Cheers.
Avatar n tn I have had post herpatic neuralgia nerve ending pain for the past four and one half years in the inside corner of my left eye, the entire left eyebrow area, left forhead and a section of my scalp. This of course occurred after a bout with shingles (my first and only) The pain starts in my left eyelid and continues up into my eyebrow, forehead and scalp in about a 2 1/2 " wide path that goes up to the upper center of my scalp. The pain never stops. My question.
Avatar f tn Can aspercreme with lidocaine be used on a burn caused by a flame if its not blistered
Avatar m tn I am terrified of needles too and I FELT NOTHING.. They used Buffered Lidocaine injection which I did not feel any of.. I must admit, I did put over the counter Lidocaine cream all over my breast about an hour before the procedure. I used this Lidocaine cream on my arm before a tetanus shot that I had to get and was so afraid of and I was screaming for the nurse to WAIT but.. IT WAS ALREADY DONE! Helps a lot so you don't feel pain. Nurse also gave me tips for next time I get an injection.
Avatar m tn Hi, post herpetic neuralgia is often treated with lidocaine patches, drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, steroids etc but in some of the cases pain last for quite a long time. "A randomized controlled trial found that amitryptyline 25 mg per night for 90 days starting with two days of onset of rash can reduce the inicidence of postherpetic neuralgia from 35% to 16%". Taken from website http://en.wikipedia.
4806014 tn?1424501878 It sounds like you are taking your antiviral which is good but you should have on hand proper pain meds for Shingles pain. Not vicadin. Proper management involves neurontin, amitriptyline, numbing agents, such as lidocaine, delivered via a cream, gel, spray or skin patch or a narcotic, such as codeine if the pain is extreme. An antibiotic should be prescribed for the UTI.
