Lexapro withdrawal drug

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal drug

lexapro

Avatar n tn Two possibilities. Once is that, if you were anxious before taking Lexapro and you now have the same problem having stopped it, then it's just back. These meds don't cure depression or anxiety or treat their causes; they just tamp down symptoms. If you haven't solved the underlying problem, it's not only still there, but can be worse because your brain is now used to working with a drug and needs time to relearn how to function without one.
Avatar f tn Did you stop the Effexor abruptly, of do a slow taper off it? Effexor is one of the most difficult of all antidepressants to stop taking without significant withdrawal, and taking another drug won't most likely help with that withdrawal because no two of these drugs work exactly the same, and these drugs are not even in the same class of drugs.
Avatar n tn I was very sensitive to coming off this drug. As I write this, I am seven weeks off Lexapro and I feel somewhat back to normal. I can cope with day-to-day life and have no desire to go back on Lexapro. Keep in mind I just started withdrawing from the Wellbutrin. However, it took a good 6 weeks to get over the Lexapro withdraw side effects. Weeks 2 through 4 were the most difficult to cope with in my case.
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me a script for 10 mg of lexapro. I have taken 2 doses of the drug and am having second thoughts about the need for such srong medication when in fact l am in grief and have never sufferred from depression in y life. My questioin is, can l stop safely after 2 pills..or a need to taper?
Avatar m tn I have a hard time believing this because these symptoms feel like little brain zaps that you get from lexapro withdrawal. I recently went down to 5 mg and the symptoms seemed to worsen. However, going up to 20mg made me feel weird. Currently I am transitioning to Cymbalta and I am off lexapro. It has only been a few days but the brain zaps are terrible! Can anyone please help me figure out what is going on, and how long I might experience these horrible symptoms!?
Avatar m tn Hi guys. I started taking Lexapro for my depression/generalized anxiety disorder about two years ago. For the first year, I took the drug every day as prescribed by the doctor. I didn't get any side effects which I thought was great. The drug wasn't of much help, though. A year ago, I decided to stop taking Lexapro on my own. I tried quitting it cold turkey but I wasn't able to follow through with it because of the withdrawal effects.
Avatar f tn The drug left your body the next day. All ssris other than Prozac leave the body pretty quickly. Any left is too little to do anything. That's first. Second, these drugs don't start to work for most people until 4-6 weeks, but side effects start right away. If you were having panic attacks before taking Lexapro, you shouldn't have expected it to work so soon.
Avatar n tn A half-life is the amount of time it takes for half the drug to clear from your body. Lexapro, tricyclics, MAOIs and most SSRIs all have the potential to cause withdrawal symptoms. As recommended, your best course of action is to develop an appropriate tapering schedule with your healthcare provider.
777975 tn?1236334919 I have been switched over from lexapro to wellbutrin by my drug and alchol Dr. (clean now for over a year). what my problem is is that I took 4 halves of 20mg lexapro for 4 days, then 2 1/4's of a pill the next 2 then off totally for 1 day then I started the wellbutrin. I am now on my 3rd day of wellbutrin and I am still having really bad dizzyness, headaches and mind zaps I guess they are called like a charge of something all over me every few seconds or so especially when I am standing.
Avatar n tn Withdrawal differs depending on the individual. Some people have none, some have mild ones, some have permanent ones. That's why you taper off these drugs as slowly as necessary and, if it wasn't slow enough and the withdrawal is severe, you can go back on the drug at the last dose that felt fine and taper off more slowly. That being said, you can still get bad withdrawals from these drugs even if you do everything to avoid them.
Avatar m tn I am now prescribed .5mg xanax 2times a day 20 mg of valium at bed time along with lexapro and trazadone (if needed). I am also prescribed 100mg neurontin 3 times per day in between the xanax to help with withdrawal symptoms. Is this a safe cocktail and is it hard to get off neurontin?
Avatar m tn So I decided that I no longer need Lexapro, or any psychotropic drug for that matter, and we are weaning me off it. I was only on ten mgs, and I have slowly gotten down to 5 mg a day. I feel weird. Dizzy sometimes, little bits of confusion every now and then (lasts only 2 seconds), and I am STARVING. Then when I eat, I feel like I will be sick! What gives?? I am terrified to decrease any lower than 5 mg for fear of the symptoms. Anyone feel similar?
Avatar f tn I wonder if Lexapro wouldn't have most of the same problems that Celexa would have, as they're mostly the same drug. I know Lexapro is Celexa minus some stuff found to be unnecessary, but mostly Lexapro was developed because the patent on Celexa had expired. You also don't say if you tapered off the Celexa before switching.
Avatar m tn Introduction to Lexapro: Lexapro, the brand name for escitalopram, is a widely prescribed medication known for its effectiveness in managing mood disorders. This antidepressant, belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class, offers several benefits to those struggling with conditions like major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. https://buylexaproonlinepharmacy.weebly.
404138 tn?1308941656 Lexapro DID give me some withdrawal symptoms, but in fairness, I also was instructed to quit Lexapro cold turkey and got home from my appointment that day to find out my grandfather had passed away and I had to fly to California for the funeral. So, it was not exactly a 'good' time to quit anything for a person diagnosed with anxiety! Particularly when I left the Lexapro at home for that week because I was intending to follow the instructions for cold turkey.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
Avatar f tn Although I'm not a physician, I do know from experience about Lexapro withdrawal -- here is what I found to be HIGHLY effective: 5-HTP / St. John's Wort / B-Complex supplements. I PROMISE YOU, although it will take time, YOU WILL GET BETTER. Looking back, it seems like it took a month or more to get over the majority of the symptoms -- some residual symptoms even longer. BUT HANG IN THERE!!!!
Avatar n tn I am unable to refill my prescription this month because it is just too expensive I had to choose between the lexapro and the meds I take for for a heart condition (cardiomyoathy). The withdrawal symptoms are terrible I was on this med for general anxiety disorder I feel so bad now I can't decide if I am having a mild panic attack or if this withdrawal is really going to give me a stroke or a seizure or something.
Avatar f tn I need advice. And also, with me being on Lexapro for such a short time will my withdrawal symptoms be as bad? Did anyone successfully come off Lexapro? Thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn This happend when the depression started and before I started Lexapro. Lexapro could keep you awake, but it makes most people sleepy. My psychiatrist had me take Ambien to help me sleep. Then I took Provigil immediately upon waking to help me get started for the day. Provigil is very safe and not likely to be habit forming. It also gives you a slight mood lift. Once I got over the depression and insomnia, my doctor got me off of the Ambien and Provigil.
Avatar f tn Currently I am in Zoloft withdrawal after having been forced to stop taking it. I took the zoloft on and off for years. Like all SSRIs it's a very nasty drug that I regret ever starting in the first place. I have had some "unexplained" rashes, swelling, rectal bleeding (zoloft induced) and have to stop taking it again. That would be all fine and dandy except because of all the swelling I had to get an awful steroid shot which has put me in an awful tailspin.
Avatar f tn First, next time see a psychiatrist rather than a general doc -- they usually do this more often and so do it with more experience. But withdrawal seems to be something they don't teach to doctors or to most psychiatrists. You should have tapered off the drug at a speed that suits you, not some generalized schedule. You might have done this too quickly for you, while someone else might do fine at this speed.
Avatar n tn As for how long it stays in the system, the actual drug is out of the system in hours. But withdrawal has less to do with whether the drug is your system or not to what your body has to do to get back to stasis without the drug.
