Lexapro withdrawal and nausea

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal and nausea

lexapro

Avatar f tn I thought it was time to try to come off it and see how a feel because I am in my early 30s and have young kids and wanted to feel good abour myself again and lose the weight. Well, the first few days off of Lexapro were pretty good and then on about day 5, I started to feel HORRIBLE. I was sweating horribly, had a constant headache and nausea. I was so dizzy. It has just been a disaster.
Avatar m tn Who are we? You and the Doctor? Why were you prescribed Lexapro to begin with? Depression/anxiety? Keep in mind that a symptom of depression is a significant change in apetite. I have experienced unpleasant symptoms several times when discontinuing an anti deoressant and starting another but they pass and improve. If you discontinue too fast you may experience nausea, sweating, upset stomach, headache, neck pain or vomiting. Symptoms of depression/anxiety may also return.
Avatar n tn I am married with two children under the age of 5. I am a professional and I manage a multi-million dollar a year business. I was on Lexapro for about 4 years. A family practice MD put me on it in 2004 during a very stressful time in my life (new baby, new job, relocation, professional licensure examination, etc.). Maybe I needed it, maybe not. I now know I did not have good stress coping skills at that point in my life.
Avatar n tn A half-life is the amount of time it takes for half the drug to clear from your body. Lexapro, tricyclics, MAOIs and most SSRIs all have the potential to cause withdrawal symptoms. As recommended, your best course of action is to develop an appropriate tapering schedule with your healthcare provider.
Avatar m tn I have been off of it for about a week now and I am feeling horrible. I have nausea, headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, weird hot flashes, skin burning and itching and backache. Has anyone experienced any of these when stopping Lexapro? I am trying to decipher if these symptoms are just anxiety or if it is due to the withdrawl from the Lexapro. If anyone has any advice please let me know.
404138 tn?1308945256 By using cognitive behavioural therapy, I was able to work with the Lexapro and soothe my anxiety. It might take some time to kick in.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to share my story about Lexapro. I took one 10mg Lexapro pill and 8 hours later had a severe adverse reaction to the drug. My life was about to become a nightmare.(This incident happened 14 months ago) My experience is rare but it is important to stress the dangers not explained by professionals in the field and there are many similarities between my experience and that of those who experience terrible withdrawal symptoms from SSRI's.

458072 tn?1291418786 I was on 10 mg for 6 months and had no real trouble. Some nausea and hot flashes the first week and then nothing. I didn't even know I was taking it. I have weaned off VERY slowly. I first went to 7.5 (3/4) pill and was naseuous for a week and stayed on that dose for a month. Then doen to 5 mg and now I am on 2.5 mg. No big issues getting off for me. I think if the anxiety is due to the thyroid condition, a med like Ativan ( or other benzodiazepenes) are a better way to go.

Avatar m tn Congratulations on your commitment to stop taking Lexapro. I was on it (10 mg) for almost 3 years and just stopped taking it. (Tired of the weight gain and feeling like a zombie.) I took a half pill for 2 weeks then forgot to take it a couple of nights and decided I was done. Had terrible withdrawal symptoms the 4th and 6th days - nausea, vomiting, headache, insomnia, lack of concentration, basically in "la la land".
Avatar m tn 5mg and then wham! - woke up with dizziness, nausea and headache. Headache has now lasted 14 days. Doc reinstated me to 10mg with no effect on headaches then 5 days later increased to 12.5mg with no improvement. In fact, I feel worse due to anxiety. Anybody had a similar experience getting off Lex?
Avatar n tn I am coming off cipralex and I am soooo itchy especially my hands and neck. Has anyone had this withdrawal symptom? If so what can be done about it. Hand cream doesnt help.
Avatar m tn 5mg and then wham! - woke up with dizziness, nausea and headache. Headache has now lasted 15 days. Doc reinstated me to 10mg with no effect on headaches then 5 days later increased to 12.5mg with no improvement. In fact, I feel worse due to anxiety. Anybody had a similar experience getting off Lex?
Avatar n tn I'm also in the process of going through Lexapro withdrawal, and it's not fun. I was put on Lexapro by one of the University physicians where I was attending college, to help me with GAD. I was so stressed out from school (being that I also have a wife and kids) that I was having periods of anxiety where I would almost pass out from shortness of breath, so the physician thought that Lexapro would help me out.
Avatar n tn I am always very hot and have nausea. Why do I still have withdrawal symptoms? I REALLY want to get off this and have no more withdrawal symptoms!!
Avatar f tn I've also tried increasing my water consumption to flush the Lexapro and Welbutrin out of my system and trying to get a good amount of sleep each night. This seems to have helped, too.
Avatar f tn It also causes quite a bit of nausea. It's hard to work this way. Hope it gets better.
777975 tn?1236338519 I took the meds the way my dr told me to when she told me how to wean down. and every pharmacist and dr ive spoken to has said not to take the lexapro and the wellbutrin together. and if I take a small does every other day for a week and then every third day for a week it would be longer then the week to 10 days I may have the symptoms. Guess im just not seeing any benefit there. besides I started having the withdrawal syptoms (brain zaps, dizziness etc.
Avatar m tn Sudden withdrawal may result in headache, nausea, pins and needles, dizziness and anxiety. When it is time to stop taking this medicine it should be discontinued gradually, following the instructions given by your doctor." I urge you to see your prescriber as soon as possible and get some help. I wish you the best.
Avatar n tn I was put on rivotril and lexapro for 8 years and during that time everything was wonderful, my anxiety was gone and my panic attacks were decresed. But since 1 year ago, im trying to quit alprazolam (which replaced rivortil) with success, i think. First days everything was a hell, with dizziness, headaches, vivid nightmares, etc. and that situation lasted 3 months. (i quited cold turkey, then took it back as i couldnt bear that symptons) I tappered it off slowly, from a daily dose from 0.
Avatar n tn i have been experiencing nausea and dizziness and am very light headed....after calling my md he suggested i go back on the lexapro. i am not experiencing any drastic mood swings or severe crying spells..after he said to try for one more week staying off the meds and then calling him back....can someone please e-mail me at ***@**** if you can help me in trying to get thru this withdrawal period....i didn't like the fact that the quick fix was to go back to taking the lexapro...
213972 tn?1206053788 Paxil was awfull for me to get off of, it took me 5 months to wean off of it. And you do not gain weight from Lexapro. My best friends wife is a psycologist, and she told me that lexapro is a "neutral" , while some others do have a weight gain effect. The only thing i can say about people gaining weight is they feel better on the medication (relief of anxiety), therfore they tend to eat more. You just need to watch your eating habits, if you are at all concerned about weight.
Avatar f tn I have begun to wonder if the vertigo could be caused by withdrawal from Lexapro, which I've been on for years. I also experience mental "mud"--feeling confused and slow to get my thoughts together, as well as trouble remembering. What do you think? I have also been experiencing restless leg syndrome when I go to bed at night, and sore, tight muscles in the morning as if I had been through a grueling workout the day before.
Avatar n tn I have quit cold turkey with Loritab 10/500 8-10 a day habit along with lexapro 20mg. I have used the loritabs for 4 months religiously and the lexapro for about 12-13 months. I am having a severe case of restlss leg throughout the night causeing very little rest. Along with a dizziness/vertigo/fainting feeling. What can I expect? What can i do. HELP!
Avatar n tn I consulted my doctor who I will see next week and she immediatley put me back on Lexapro 20 mg. Was the rage and anxiety I experienced a side effect of withdrawing from the Lexapro all together? I didn't want to wait until next week to find out. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn They will normally have you go back on the medication and then wean you off, so if you can't see a qualified doctor immediately, call him and tell him what you are enduring and ask about a weaning off schedule. Good luck and take care.
