Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro weight loss stories

lexapro

Avatar n tn I remember my doc telling me one time that less than 2% of people have TRUE, unexplained weight gain with Lexapro. The other ones that gain weight, it's a simple calories in versus calories out deal (that was true for me). And even that number is suppose to be low. I know a couple people who never gained a pound on Lexapro (LUCKY). I don't know about cymbalta or wellbutrin, hopefully you can get good responses from those with experience!
Avatar n tn WOW, reading your comments on Lexapro is so soothing to me, I have been telling my doctor for four years since she put me on Lexapro I can't loose weight and I swear Lexapro makes me gain weight. Her answer was when you turn 40 it gets harder and harder to loose weight. All my life I have been underweight, and when she said I had an anxiety disorder she put me on Lexapro. What a mistake, I am know 180 pounds and I can't loose a pound.
2214310 tn?1339288751 If anyone is interested. I am looking to get stories from others who suffer from Chiari Malformation. I am going to send them to Dr. Oz, and try and get him to do a show about Chiari and what we and our families go through. I want to send him a bunch of our stories and I am going to send them to The doctors show, and who ever else we can think of. I figured if I snail mail them a bunch at once, they may pay more attention to it then just an email.
Avatar f tn My physician responded to my request for help, and being discouraged about my lack of weight loss by trying to prescribe prozac for weight loss and of course depression. Since when does Prozac aide weight loss? I did not receive any response to what else could I do/try/ who to see etc. Or an answer as to what they syntroid was doing for me, since I was still not losing weight, but losing hair, and still had high triglycerides. Also no response to my ??
Avatar n tn I would say that it is a 50/50 chance whether you would lose weight in the long run as the product wasn't designed as a weight loss product. (but I'm not a doctor so your dr. might be able to tell you what to expect).
Avatar n tn It should take about 2 months to get to that dosage but I'm getting kinda excited hearing about the benefit of weight loss especially since it was weight loss pills (metabolife and xenedrine) that caused me to find out that I was epileptic in the first place! The doctor told me that i might get tingling in my fingers and i might feel a little dopy but happy dopy he described it as, so I figure i can deal with that! If I start losing weight at a rapid pace i'll definitely post again!
Avatar n tn I was looking back on my weight loss chart and saw that within 3 weeks of starting lexapro each time, I had a significant weight gain. I went from 175 to 185 the first time and then continued to gain despite following the program and exercising. When I went off the med, the weight began to drop and I made it down below 200. I started it again in February this year and within 3 weeks, here came another 10 pounds and it's been steadilly going up ever since.
Avatar n tn Proper weight loss starts slowly and you will start to notice more weight loss more quickly as you get healthier. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I feel a little less bloated, and I can feel the muscle underneath the fat which is better than before, so I think some of the bloating was due to the Lexapro. The weight has leveled off to 30s pound over my target (that is, my weight 4 years ago). I think the nutritionist is starting to take me seriously, and said that the SSRI's can effect metabolism and that can take a while to go back to 'normal'.
Avatar n tn No weight gain - actually weight loss on Lexapro(20 mg); I'm just not hungry, though I do eat a well balanced dinner every evening - with lots of protein, salads, and microwaved sweet potatoes. I'll "carb" out once a week; it appears to work for me. PLUS, far less side affects from the switch from an older drug. SNACK on foods that you do not like! That also helps!
Avatar n tn The only thing is that I've noticed over the last several months an effect that is rather disturbing and I don't know if it's due to lexapro? Kind of an inability to think straight sometimes, or loss of short term memory. Just an overall feeling of almost a blank mind. (IE I used to write a lot, but since taking lexapro, if I pick up a notebook, i've got nothing). Is it feasible that my brain-dead feelings are attributed to Lexapro?
Avatar n tn I've done some research and it seems some of the newer drugs (Effexor and Cymbalta) don't cause weight gain for as many people. In fact some cause weight loss. Has anyone had a good experience with Effexor/Effexor XR or Cymbalta?
Avatar n tn I am glad to hear i am not alone in this awful experience called lexapro. I started my adventure with AD with wellbutrin about 16 months ago. I can't recall feeling different except that i began to sweat profusely. I could use deoderant 3 times a day and it didn't matter. I switched to lexapro about 7 months ago which almost instantaneously made me feel what i guess is happiness. I felt an inner calmness and my social anxiety disappeared. It was the most content feeling.
148354 tn?1211237506 over last 8 months had chronic abdominal pain, almost 100lb weight loss (28 yrs old,female,5ft1 ,130lbs now ) in oct had appendix out,now have 5cm ovarian cyst on right ovary, constant nausea, gas, bloating, and pain, especially pain in upper abdominal area, armpit, and back,(total lack of appetite)it comes and goes ,(crampy, sometimes or sharp)when it leaves i feel sore, but the attacks are after i eat ,which is very little because of pain i have no appetite, stick to bland limited diet, and drink ensur
Avatar n tn It did work well for depression, and I did have the beneficial side effect of the weight loss as well. I have taken Zoloft and Lexapro in the past which also worked well for depression, but similar to others on this site, I couldn't stand the weight gain. So I tapered off and ultimately quit. I have to be honest and say that when I took the Wellbutrin (in my late 30's) my figure looked amazing (better then in highschool).
Avatar f tn I am currently on Lexapro now and haven't really noticed any weight gain or loss. I usually take it @ noon or so, that seems to work the best for me. Unfortunately, Effexor worked great for me, but it made my blood pressure skyrocket 176/106 my doctor thought I was faking it!!! How in the world can anyone fake high BP??? He saw it for himself. Needless to say, I no longer see that jerk or take all of his magic potions. He had me on 6 different meds, all fighting and neutralizing each other.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been taking 10mg of Lexapro for a year and a half and recently decided to taper off due to fatigue and weight gain. I have mentioned cutting back to my doctor, but she seems adamant that I stay on the meds indefinitely. I do not agree with this because I am concerned about the long term effects, which are largely unknown. I am going to discontinue treatment with her due to changes in my insurance policy, so I decided to try to cut back on my own.
Avatar f tn I think if you read the pi on paxil it has equal weight gain to weight loss making it weight neutral. My friend takes it and it never effected her weight at all. So I wouldn't let that scare you as that is patient dependent. However, you tried it in the past and had agitation/ hyperactivity from it. (you'd probably lose weight over the longhaul with that . . .) So you may want to consider lexapro or celexa.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I am severely depressed & have been taking Prozac for a month now & my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac?
Avatar n tn I switched from Lexapro to Wellbutrin because of weight gain and high blood pressure and have had wonderful results. Blood pressure is normal again and I have lost weight. Hopefully this medication will work for you too..
Avatar n tn I`m just now getting results using a weight loss clinic. Pills, shots, diet exercise, and not much food. And water, lots of water. I am still on effexor and probably will be for a while yet. This diet , is at least motivating me to really keep working at it and hopefully be able to get off the diet meds, and the effexor sometime, too.
Avatar f tn I was suffering from alot of stress and then I started to get depressed so, I went to the doctor 9 years ago and he prescribed lexapro and vioxx due to a knot that had come up on my neck ' thinking back on that I believe it was caused from all the tension headaches I was having" anyway that night as usual I put my daughter to bed took the meds. then I went to bed.
Avatar f tn Klonopin can cause weight loss or weight gain, depending on the individual. In me, it caused me to lose about 50 lbs. (and I am not a big individual). It also caused depression, decreased appetite, blurred vision, ineffective digestion and insomnia (it affects stages 3 and 4 of your sleep). I would highly recommend that an individual get on anything other than Klonopin (or any other of the Benzodiazepines). These are some of the most addictive drugs on the planet.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was scared too! And I even went and found a site that has nothing but the bad side effects and then went and found another site that was all good stuff! So...I have to say WB has worked for me...and I am terrible at reading labels and side effects info...I worry I will get all of them!! I am only 150 daily...if I got to 300 my ears ring... Good luck and let me know how it works out!
Avatar n tn I started walking 5 miles a day three times a week. I think that may have had something to do with the weight loss. I know how hard it is to take time for yourself but you need to give yourself some quiet time too. Even if it's only 15 minutes a day. Good luck.
Avatar f tn We think the memory loss has increased, but it's kind of mixed up with the anxiety. We HOPE the memory loss is directly related to the Ambien, and being off of it will he return to 'normal'? We can deal with the anxiety, but not the memory loss.
Avatar f tn Your hormones will be messed up for years after stopping this shot. It will be your most difficult weight you ever lose. Weight loss is easier after pregnancy due to breast feeding and all the other hormones that go into effect after childbirth. I had always heard hormones are something very delicate that can be knocked out of kilter very easily. I was so happy to have such an easy form of birth control in DP, and was happy to be free of the periods. I will never do it again.
Avatar m tn point(stopped working) and i was experiencing really bad depression/anxiety again after being on zoloft for 18months. My doc tried Lexapro but i experienced very fast weight gain since being on it so he stopped it. i saw him tonight for a check up appointment on the Medication adjustments. Being the lexapro made me gain weight He decided to try effexor for me I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this medication? I've heard a side effect is actually weight loss?
Avatar f tn It's naturally found in turkey, for one. They use it for everything, from an anti-depressant, to sleep aid, to weight loss. I was looking into taking it, but it says if you are taking any other SSRI's (I'm on Lexapro) that you should not, because you could get Serotonin Syndrome. But it was something that I was very interested in, and reading some users stories, it has helped them a lot with many different "ailments".
Avatar n tn mainly weight gain and loss of sexual interest as well as achieving an erection and reaching orgasm, I would like to get off this drug ASAP. My question is, since I have only been on it for 6 days, can I quit cold turkey or do I have to ween myself off the drug? If I have to ween what type of weening schedule should I follow?
