Lexapro side effects weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects weight loss

lexapro

Avatar f tn Your doctor doesn't understand these meds very well, which is common when you don't see a caring experienced psychiatrist. As stated above, wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant, and two weeks is too short a time for weaning off, and taking another drug while you're weaning off just gives you two sources of side effects. What were the Lexapro side effects you were trying to avoid?
Avatar n tn i was on it 4 about a month. and im still getting the side affects. im still gaining weight, anf all the other side affects r still there. i heard that the side affects r supposed 2 go away within 10 days so im just wondering why i still have the side affects. can anyone please tell me why im still gaining weight, and when it will stop? cause im not eating alot, in fact, i eat less than most people, but im just getting blown up.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am too experiences horrific effects from coming off 20mg Lexapro. But I can't take all the side effects anymore. I wish I knew what to do to stop the vertigo/dizziness but the only thing I can find on internet (but havent' tried yet) is a motion sickness tablet that contains a vestibular suppressant. Only thing I wanted to mention is that a friend/nutritionist has suggested I take SamE as an alternative to the Lexapro.
415867 tn?1323365503 These older types of antidepressants affect neurotransmitters, causing a broad range of side effects including significant weight gain. Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t.
Avatar f tn People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lexapro several times over the last 4 years for 6 months to 2 years at a time. I am having problems with the sexual side effects and the weight gain. It's actually less of a "weight gain" than a shift in body composition. My pants are too tight and my shirts are more fitted but I haven't actually gained a pound. I am a competitive runner and haven't changed my exercise or eating habits over the last 2 years.
Avatar n tn Getting ready to start Lexapro and I want to know the side effects you have experienced? I have been on Wellbutrion and Cymbalta and both were not for me. Made my anxiety worse. I lost weight on both but wanted to know the weight issue with Lexapro since there seems to be one. Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn Had sexual side effects and gained some weight but I am not positive is from the Lexapro but I think may be. The Dr gave me Effexor which knocked me out for 3 days, slept 36 hours straight, then Celexa which I broke out in a rash all over my body from. He tried Wellbutrin but that did nothing. I didn't lose weight on it like some people do.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken Lexapro? If so, did you gain weight on it or experience other side effects? Did it give you motivation to do things again? My neuro doc prescribed it (10 mg) but I'm not sure if this is any good... Thanks!!
Avatar f tn Weight changes are a common side effect, but varies from individual. Most will suffer from some weight gain, but this is not always the case. Some individuals do not have any change in their weight while some actually have a weight loss. I would go ahead and take the medication as prescribed and if you find that you have side effects that are overly bothersome or that outweigh the benefit of the medication, once again, talk with your provider to seek alternative treatment(s).
Avatar n tn lissy is right.....hair loss & baldness is a listed side effect of lexapro. it's not one of the common side effects, but it is one nonetheless....one that you find by looking on the internet; nothing any doc will tell you about that is for sure!
Avatar f tn i didnt really get bad side effects from lexapro, except weight gain and sexual side effects. i have been taking lexapro for about 3 months, i am trying to taper off of it because of the weight gain, but within two days i start getting these horrible symptoms, like tingling, burning sensation, dysphoria, suicidal thoughts, its very scary, so i am back on them, every time i try and quit, i feel like i am going to have a nervous breakdown.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am on Effexor 150mg daily. I have put on lots of weight - but that is because it makes me feel hungry for carbohydrates. If you control your diet you should be OK. Some people lose weight on anti-depressants, and some people gain. There is a lot of information about Effexor on this site. Don't let the posts about withdrawal put you off. I hope it works for you, and your depression soon goes. I find Effexor has stopped all my depression and anxiety with no side effects.
Avatar f tn Like... they said at 10mg there are very few side-effects and at 20mg there are noticeable side-effects. But, you obviously don't want to change the dose on your own, as this can be extremely dangerous! But, it would be worth talking to your doctor about if the side-effects don't go away fast enough. Although... most of the time... with SSRIs in general I find, it can take 2 to 4 weeks for side-effects to go away and then they're gone for good.
Avatar f tn Lexapro can be some reason why your weight has changed. You need to maintain a healthy weight, which depends on your height. Just make sure you eat healthy and talk to your doctor if you keep gaining. Make sure you exercise.
Avatar f tn I remember being a puffy mute on lexapro and zyprexa. Not only was my usual 130 pound jewish frame elevated to 170 within months I felt suicidal for the first time in my life. I found a combo of wellbutrin/zoloft that seems to serve me well. After hearing my complaints of fatigue he added adderall. It does help but it's but you can develop tolerance fairly quickly and it's drawing on your body's essential vitality (chi) to do this.
20790871 tn?1507161421 I am a healthy 20 year old female. I am a former collegiate long-distance runner; I stopped running competitively a few months ago, but still run and workout regularly. I noticed that shortly after I started college (2 years ago), my hair stopped growing completely. It used to be long and thick, but over the past couple years it has become very thin and damaged and simply doesn't grow. In addition to this, I have also been getting acne on my jaw and neck-which I didn't use to get.
20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
Avatar n tn Many physicians are not comfortable prescribing multiple weight loss medications at the same time out of concern for increased risk of side effects. Also keep in mind that phentermine is not generally recommended in the long term. It may make more sense to just stick with one of the weight loss medications to see if there are any beneficial effects. It's also a good time to think carefully about how the weight loss occurred while on the new medication.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I like the effects of the Lexapro mentally, but just curious if anyone else had similar side effects and if so, if they went away or you had to start taking something else? I was on Zoloft before the Lexapro but had to stop taking it because of urinary issues it was causing. Any advice?
Avatar n tn s taken along with an SSRI that does have those side effects, does it minimize or cancel out those side effects possibly? I know there is no guarantee, I was just wondering. At one point he suggested going back on Lexapro with Wellbutrin but I refused to go back on Lexapro since I didn't want to gain more weight. Now I am wondering, if Wellbutrin does cancel out those side effects possibly, maybe if the Celexa doesn't work I should go back to Lexapro with Wellbutrin.
