Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects message board

Avatar f tn I'd take what he said to mean that you should start 1 new med then wait 1 week and then start the next new med. This way any side effects can be attributed more easily to the right medication. I don't think he meant stopping any meds. This is just my opinion on the matter. Why not call and ask?
Avatar n tn I am new to this forum and have just been prescribed Lexapro, but I am concerned about the side effects - I see that they are supposed to be less than Celexa. However, has anyone experience hair loss from Lexapro, I have from Prozac and am terrifed to try another anti-depressant although I know I really need it. Please someone help. Thanks.
Avatar n tn The Lex has definitely helped my depression, but there have been side effects...extremely vivid dreams, sexual side effects and the occasional leg jerk while drifting off to sleep. My counselor says I need to stay on it for at least 6 months for it to make a difference but I'm scared of staying on it for much longer.
Avatar n tn She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.
Avatar n tn Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills? What are the side effects? What are the benefits? Has FDA approved? Where i can search more about Yaz? Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy? Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills. is that true?
Avatar f tn I took it for 7 months with great results at 30. 20 was good, but wasn't quite enough. If you look at Motrin's side effects and thought they might happen to you, you might think twice about taking one, however the chances of a bad effect aren't very high, and millions are consumed safely every hour. My doc said you can't get an effect without a side effect. If you get a reaction, see your doc, or your pharmacist in a pinch.
Avatar n tn (not this one) Okay, now, my concern is the effcts after STOPPING yasmin. I understand that all bc pills are different and so are we women as far as side effects go. I have read postings about women who stopped taking yasmin and have experienced the following: - anxiety, panic attacks, heart palpitations and fluttering - depression - excessive weight gain - hair loss *I already have a prob. with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, so I am currently on medication.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist is weening me off the Lexapro and is giving me Topamax which should induce weight-loss and also lessen the side effects of going off the Lexapro. Unfortunately, there is a lot of side effects of Topomax as well but weight gain is not one of them and need to loose the weight now !!!!
Avatar m tn Is quackery risk free? No. Does quackery have side effects? Yes. Anyway Granite, welcome to the board. The members are a strong bunch by and large - you just have to keep a weather-eye open for the occasional kook that happens along.
480448 tn?1426952138 ONE important thing to remember that I learned, and have never forgotten is that these two effects CANNOT exist without anxiety.....but that anxiety can exist without these sensations. Derealization is basically a change, an alteration in the PERCEPTION or experience of the external world....in other words...everything LOOKS very strange, very "unreal" (movie like, in my experiences). Depersonalization is a subjective experience of unreality of one's self. So the difference is...
Avatar f tn Good morning all, I'm new to this message board or any message board so bare with me. I have Anxiety problems and started really noticing them again about a month ago, this month im in full blown mode where i needed to get on medication!!!! I was first diagnosed with GAD @ 9 years ago after a terrible first time experience of what was happening to me!!! I was put on lexapro, klonopin, and a few xanax. Took the lexapro for @8 years and all the rest of the meds for only @a week..
Avatar n tn Hey Mama, This is arrigoar from over at the Braintalk message board. I am really worrying about my symptoms. I was so worried today that I called my neurologists office and got a copy of my EMG results. I wanted to read them myself.
11025355 tn?1416999157 And all you can do is take on board the advice I gave you before in on of your other threads and also follow the advice of your doctor and therapist. Sometimes some medications can cause side effects or they may not suit you, so that is why if you experience anything different when you start taking the pill, it may be that it does not suit you. You can also ask the pharmacist if the symptoms you got (shaking, sweating and feeling nausea) could be side effects from the Lexo.
Avatar m tn Has tried several different SSRI medicines and I had to stop after just a few doses of each due to severe side effects such as nausea, pains in stomach, headaches, etc. (Effexor, Lexapro, and Paxil). I am currently taking Xanax every day to cope. About one month ago I started getting really bad nausea with stomach pain, it would generally settle in around breakfast time, peak after eating, then come and go through the afternoon.
Avatar m tn It is also often difficult for me to take a full, deep breath. Are any/all of these symptoms normal side effects from the ablation? Should I ever expect to get back to feeling like I did a few months ago, before the surgery? The cardiologist has offered no explanation why my legs feel so heavy, does anyone have any ideas or experience with this symptom? I used to be very active and the fact I am so limited now, compared to what I used to do, is very frustrating and discouraging.
Avatar m tn It generally does have worse withdrawal effects though since it does not built up in the body. Anyway, Lexapro is a good start. It helps many people overcome their anxiety just like you. If you read my profile, you will see I have had my share of heart scares and I am still aware of my heartbeat, but mostly when I have a PVC. It gets better with time. Try the Lexapro and see how it makes you feel. Remember, it may make you feel a bit worse before you feel better.
Avatar f tn And there are 'start up' side effects. So, say you take Zoloft (common and well tolerated medication used for depression/anxiety). You would start on a low dose and they increase it to a therapeutic level slowly. So, maybe you start at 25 mg and then go to 50 over the course of a week. For the first bit of taking it, there are transient side effects that can happen. It is your body getting used to the medication.
Avatar n tn Any drug that has an effect has a side effect. There are lots of side effects from tylenol too, but people take them to get rid of pain. Most depression meds do not have a lot of side effects that users experience, although with large numbers of people taking them some problems are bound to occur. The other problem you need to overcome is why are you embarrassed to talk openly with your doctor. Doc is there to help, and you need help.
Avatar n tn My husband takes Lexapro, which is generally less likely to have sexual side effects, and he's gone from an enormous sex drive to virtually none. Be careful what you wish for, though; there's a lot of pleasure in that initial drive to be sexual, and I have the feeling you'd just like better control, not to lose your sex drive altogether. Are you seeing a sex therapist, or just a counselor?
Avatar n tn the anti-depressants helped me through the rough spots but because of the side effects (drowsiness, unable to sleep, disinterest and lack of feeling during sex, general apathy and lack of motivation) i quit taking the anti-dep. i stopped taking the paxil cold turkey. for all their claims to be non-addictive,i thought i would die from mental anguish from the withdrawal. i was ok in a week or so, but that is because i didn't take it for a long period of time. i continued to take .
Avatar f tn Honey you sound like this med is giving you suicidal ideations which is a side effect of the Lexapro especially if you are a very young person. Are you a teen or twenty something? You must flush all the pills immediately, get to the ER and seek out a psychiatrist to help you. You are suicidal and should not be on any antidepressant right now.
Avatar n tn You write: "I post to offer support, to receive support, to learn things -- for people that are TREATING and SUFFERING from the sides." TRANSLATION: If you're not on treatment or suffering from side effects, GO AWAY, YOU'RE NOT WELCOME HERE.
Avatar m tn As you probably know if you've been reading my posts, one of my worst side effects on treatment is reflux. The traditional medicines (PPI's, H2's, Antacids) are only helping marginally. Same with diet changes (lived on rice gruel and boiled chicken for a month. UGGGH! and still only a little relief) A few days ago I decided to approach the problem differently. Like many, the riba puts me under a lot of physical and mental stress.
Avatar n tn Hi Ina, Thanks for taking the time to respond, and for your helpful tips. Hope I'm doing this right! <<You know that I am only a patient with Hepc, and not a doctor. Just want to make sure you understand.>> Yes I do understand. And I'll try to keep my responses as concise as possible! <<it sounds to me you are not convinced that you want to go this route>>. Yes, I'm certainly on the fence. That's part of my depression- an inability to make decisions.
Avatar f tn Sometimes it's hard to tell medication side effects from anxiety symptoms. The medication effects will frequently subside in time. If they are too much for you to tolerate then discus switching meds with your doctor.
Avatar n tn walkinghorse-my gp said whoever gives me a medicine that causes side effects should be the one who deals with those side effects. when my gi tried to get out of dealing with the sides i told him what my gp said and he could'nt argue with that. so he now does give me the stuff for my sides...I think they're all afraid to give sleeping pills and pain pills... on the note of pain pills talk to your dr.
Avatar m tn I'm on the fourth day of Lexapro, and the side effects now makes me think I'm really sick! I really hope this med helps me, it has on the past.... God bless us all!
Avatar f tn Regardless my doctor says it is a homopathic dose. I think Celexa is the same as Lexapro as far as side effects. When I google Lexapro and Atril fibrillation the same page comes up as when I google Celexa or Citalopram and A-fib http://doublecheckmd.com/EffectsDetail.do?dname=Celexa&sid=11806&eid=4417 I don't have Afib either and I don't want to add it to the list. So I have a call in to my cardiologist and I'll let you know. I just bet, he will say no to taking it.
Avatar f tn The side effects of these meds are sometimes as much a challenge for the person taking them as they are for the caregiver! Hope the rages are the exception rather than the rule, but it definitely helps to keep your eye on the prize (SVR)... and lay the blame on the drugs :). The odd combination of tension and forgetfulness induced by Riba can definitely test a caregiver's patience... during my husband's long treatment, it wasn't unusual for him to fly off the handle at the drop of a hat..
Avatar n tn MOST OF THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE MANAGABLE FOR MOST OF US. We tend to bring our woes and worst side effects to this support site, looking for advice and understanding; you'll see many of our worst experiences written up. And even if you see seven or eight people echoing remarks about a problem, it doesn't mean that you will necessarily have it. Just if you have a problem, most likely someone else here farther along tx has dealt with it already. Side effects fluctuata a lot.
