Lexapro horror stories

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro horror stories

lexapro

Avatar n tn I am scared though of the withdrawl symptoms as I have heard many numerous horror stories regarding weening off of an anti depressant. With my entire spout with lexapro, I have gone from 10mg, 20mg, 10 and 20 alternating, and then just 10mg. My doctor told me to do 5mg for about a month or so and see how it goes. Since I have been on Lexapro for so long is this the safe way for me to do it? How can I prevent or lessen the withdrawl symptoms as I begin my withdrawl process?
Avatar m tn I'd go further than specialmom. I had the worst withdrawal in the history of them, but I don't think the non-horror stories match the horror stories -- I think they far exceed the horror stories. The problem is, medication for anything does force the body to work artificially, so generally it's only supposed to be prescribed if necessary. That's the First Do No Harm part of a doctor's oath.
Avatar f tn is anyone else on these two? I was recently diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and the doctor put me on lexapro and topamax. I have now heard horror stories about topamax and I don't want to take it. I want to know some alternatives.
Avatar f tn So I have palpitations pvcs and fast heartbeat but eliminating caffeine and starting Metroprolol has helped a lot. But I also have pretty severe social avoidance and anxiety especially in unknown situations and people. I've been unemployed for some time because I'm so anxious about starting a job. I've been taking Xanax as needed for awhile which helps the anxiety and also just recently stopped Propranolol and started Metroprolol.
Avatar f tn t u just hate when ppl who are suppose to be ur friend fill ur mind with doubt and worry?? All week I have heard horror stories from the girls from work (who are nurses) girls we gotta remember that no pregnancy is the same and personally I feel listening to girls drag us down makes us feel waaay worse. I ended up booking a private scan cos I was so torn up by what ppl were telling me about my nausea symptoms stopping. If ur not sick ur whole pregnancy something is wrong?!?!? I was terrified.
Avatar n tn d also recommend you guide the person to withdrawal websites, ignore the horror stories and look at the success stories. And know that, again, most don't get protracted withdrawals and move on in a reasonable amount of time.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately on the forums all we hear are the horror stories, but the success stories far out weigh the bad. People doing well on medication(s) have no reason to talk about it for the reasons theresa stated. What matters is YOUR experience on medication, as we all respond differently to them. It's often trial and error as to what will work best for us but once we find the right one, it's well worth it! It's working great for you, and we're very happy that it is!
Avatar f tn Have you talked to your doctor about a longer lasting one that is prescribed for long term use? (i.e. Klonopin?) Remember, many times we will read many horror stories about these medications...the same is true with Zoloft, BUT for every horror story out there, there are thousands of good stories where will people do so much better because of them.
Avatar f tn said cold turkey is fine b/c I have not been on it very long; however, I read so much horror stories about withdrawal symptoms. Guess I should take my trusted doctors opinion but just wondering if anyone else out there suffered major waithdrawal symptoms getting off cold turkey after just 15-20 days on lexapro and if so, how bad was it? Thanks so much and I hope someone hears my concerns out there!!
Avatar m tn I take Celexa (citalopram) and I have taken Effexor XR in the past. The Effexor was best for my GAD, but I still needed Klonopin (.5 mg 2x a day) to keep the panick attacks away. BTW I quit the Effexor xr because I switched to insurance that only covers generics. I had no problem tapering off it unlike some horror stories I've heard from others. I now take the Celexa and klonopin and seem to be fine for now.
Avatar m tn Thank you...
Avatar n tn This kind of over prescribing to individuals that do not actually need AD medication is what results in many of the horror stories you hear. The reality is that any Antidepressant medication can have disasterous results for anyone that takes them and doesn't actually need them. Not all, but the vast majority of bad reports you read regarding SSRI and other AD medications are from people that were trying to take these medications to attempt to eliminate real problems in their life.
875778 tn?1240408177 Hello everyone, I have suffered with Anxiety Since January this Year. I was on Lexapro and Xanax from about February to end of March. I came off my medications with withdrawl problems mainly from the Lexapro. I have been off the Meds for about 3 Months but my Anxiety is back and need relief therefore I'm going back on the Meds. This is just me but I like Xanax ok but it last such a short period of time I dont like taking it multiple times during the day.
Avatar n tn DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND ALL THESE HORROR STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE TRYING TO GET OFF OF ZOLOT.I WENT BACK ON 25 M.G. OF ZOLOFT AND WITHIN TWO HOURS I HAD SOME RELIEF IN THE BREATHING PROBLEM. IN ABOUT A MONTH ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS WENT AWAY,EXCEPT THE BREATHING GOT WORSE AND CONTINUES. I WAS ADVISED BY MY INTERNEST TO TRY AND TAKE 25 MG OF ZOLOFT TWICE A DAY. THAT DID NOT HELP. I WAS THEN PRESCRIBED 0.5 OF KLONOPIN TWICE A DAY. THAT HELPED SOME.
Avatar f tn I never took this but have heard horror stories as well as success stories. I am sensitive to any med so I never wanted to go there. I would be a horror story! Just depends on the individual and their personal reaction.
Avatar n tn He then told me that I have panic disorder, general anxiety disorder and social anxiety, he gave me luxtanil to help me sleep and seroxat CR 25 mg (paxil). After reading horror stories of paxil, I decided not to take it so he gave me cipralex (Lexapro) 10 mg and said its safe and helpful and its side effects and withdrawal are much less than paxil. I am still afraid to start the medication to tell you the truth.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, it is very nerve wracking to start, because of all the horror stories you will read on the internet...but remember for every horror story there are literally thousands of success stories. And be careful with what you read on the internet...I could find detremental effects about drinking a glass of orange juice...or warning me about the dangers of tieing my shoe...my point is, if you can dream it up, you can find it on the internet.
Avatar f tn After reading the horror stories on here about tramadol withdrawal I have decided to stop taking so many and try to get it down to just 1 or 2 per day. I have been on seroquel, lexapro, lamictal and l tyrosine for about two years for bipolar depression. Do u think since I have so many antidepressants in my system that it will make the mental withdrawal a bit easier?? Ive got it down to 6 per day now and not feeling any withdrawal symptoms yet. Any advice? I'm scared.
Avatar f tn Hi I have severe avoidance and anxiety especially when it comes to unknown situations and people. I was prescribed 10mg Lexapro by my GP to take once a day. But I'm scared to take it :( It probably would help me, because currently I'm unemployed and have been for a long time, and constantly trapped in my head by obessive bad thoughts. And I lack motivation and social skills. Should I take the Lexapro? I'm so scared of side effects. I take .
1450085 tn?1298941702 My psychiatrist switched me from Effexor to Pristiq and believe me I was scared to death! I'd heard nothing but horror stories about coming off Effexor and I can not stress to you how afraid I was! My doseages were a little different. I had been taking 150mg of Effexor and switched down to 50mg of Pristiq. I am happy to report no withdrawal symptoms at all, even though my doseage was lowered considerably.
Avatar n tn I was having a discussion on my Facebook about birth and all that and asked that anyone who commented refrained from telling horror stories.. I wanted to know about people's POSITIVE csection experience because I have a scheduled csection in June.. I know it's not all rainbows and sunshine but I don't want to psych myself out..
Avatar f tn Don't let the horror stories scare you....everyone reacts differently to meds. I've had great, successful stories with several meds....Zoloft, Prozac and Lexapro (at diffferent times). There are some pretty common initial side effects, but there are a lot of success stories! Listen to your doctor and allow yourself to have your own experience!
581954 tn?1223391496 I have used this in the past and it is a type of medication grouped into SSRIs (Zoloft (Sertraline), Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. These affect people in different ways, so it is sometimes hard to say how each individual will react. I am a big proponent for these types of medications COMBINED with talk therapy. In my opinion, there is no 'magic pill' that will 'cure' you of anxiety or depression.
Avatar f tn Oh, there are LOTS and LOTS of positive stories out there...you don't read about them as much in a place like this, because people usually are seeking help after having a BAD experience (like you did unfortunately). Personally, I think AD's are the best thing since sliced bread! On several occasions, they allowed me to be "normal" again, while I worked on my problems with a therapist due to having panic disorder. I'm not going to say I had a flawless experience...
Avatar m tn So since I posted last My doc took me off the lexapro and put me on Effexor because effexor acyually covers all of my depression and anxiety symptoms... Any experience with Effexor is welcome Ive heard all the horror stories about getting off it like ive heard them with all anti-depressants i would love to hear from anyone who Has experience with Being on Effexor I took my first dose today.
