Avatar f tn I have dealt with my thyroid (hypo) for 25 years now and have managed it very well I feel. I have been recently sent to an Endo doctor because my levels went from being in the mid to upper normal range, where I feel the greatest and then suddenly went out of control and went from under active to over active. My doctor (gp) doctor reduced my meds from 125mcg to 75mcg and sent me in a tail spin again to now being under active again.
Avatar n tn Has anyone changed their thyroid medication and noticed a drastic difference ? I was taking Levoxyl for hypo-thyroidism and it was automatically changed to the generic form, L-Thyroxine. After taking the Thyroxine I noticed a terrible burning in the throat and indigestion which I never had with the Levoxyl. So I am requesting to be changed back to the Levoxyl. I think some of these medications have different ingredients. I never had this happen with the Levoxyl.
727481 tn?1231203771 I was taking 88mcg of Levoxyl and because I felt unwell taking synthetic thyroid medications my doctor is having me try Armour. She gave me 90mg of Armour in place of 88mcg of Levoxl. Can anyone tell me if that is a correct converstion since now I feel extremely unwell, internal tremors, light headedness, etc. Seems to me that 90mg is too high when I look at some of the conversion tables on the internet, but I'm not sure they are correct. My TH prior to the change to Armour was .45.
Avatar n tn My mom is 76 years old and in the last 3 weeks her doctor lowered her thyroid medication (levoxyl 0.075 micrograms). She did not ask why he was doing this. She went for a regular checkup, she had no problems with any of her medications, everything was in work order. Since the lowering of Levoxyl she has had problems with depression, which she has never had before. She went back to the doctor and he gave her Zanex (spelling?)(for depression) and a note to see a phyciatrist.
Avatar f tn I will probably either go back to taking my Nutri Thyroid at an increased dose or try Levoxyl. Has anybody got any experience with this drug or Evotrox Liquid ?? Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. AquarianGlory This discussion is related to Levothyroid and mood swings.
Avatar n tn In addition, many members report that their TSH is suppressed when taking thyroid medication. That does not mean that you are then hyper. You are hyper only if having hyper symptoms due excessive levels of FT3 and FT4, as in taking too much thyroid medication. For example my TSH has been around .05 for over 25 years, with no hyper symptoms.
1130095 tn?1267369259 t taking a thyroid medication ask the doctor to prescribe a low dose thyroid medication. I take Levoxyl. I have for years. My thyroid tests come back normal however I have all the symptoms of under active thyroid. I went to a doctor years ago, he's since retired. He prescribe this Levoxyl for me. It helps with my fm pain like I can't tell you. So look in to that. Some times you really have to do your research and discuss it intelligently with your doctor.
Avatar n tn from palpitations, sweating, insomnia, numbness/tingling, adic reflux, foggy head, blurry vision. First medication tried was .75 of Synthroid, then generics, Cytomel, Armour. Currently on .25 Levoxyl on 4 times per week. Was thinking about switching back to Synthroid at a lower dosage - would this make sense? Has anyone else had bad side effects with meds, and then felt better on Synthroid? I just don't feel right, I don't feel well and I don' t know what to do. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn In 2005 I had the right side of my thyroid removed. I've been on Levoxyl 75mcg. since that time and recently was put on Cytomel .5mgc twice a day. What would result if I had to stop taking them? Thank you kindly for your information.
Avatar f tn I guess I would like to know and logically I would believe that the two have to have some type of difference for the Levoxyl to be deemed as another brand medication. I am no longer subclinical but not very high, 6.4 at my highest. It is already very difficult to sleep as it is and now slowly titrating up to the 25 mcg Levoxyl is making it even more difficult. I can’t take sleeping pills every day.
Avatar n tn I am 39 but I only had like 10 months on treatment, but my mom and my two sisters also take thyroid medication for some years now. I am the first one to try Armour they have been with cyntroid and levoxyl. I think I am feeling a little better now.
Avatar f tn Your thyroid levels were fine and if you added the cytomel to the 100mcg of levoxyl, the TSH will likely be too low (ie, too much medication) and if you stay on cytomel, the levoxyl dose would need to be changed most likely. The weight gain is not likely due to thyroid.
Avatar f tn I work at a pharmacy school and one of the docs warned me to NEVER stop taking the thyroid medication - made me promise to start again. So I started again on Friday. By Saturday... redness came back, swollen throat... EVERYTHING came back. The thyroid scan showed no nodules, no acute abnormalities except something about the texture being inconsistent. The blood work showed that the 16 number came up to an eleven. The doc wants to double the dosage of levoxyl.
Avatar f tn So I’ve been suffering with Hashimoto’s thyroid disease for about eight years now. The first two years the doctor said I wasn’t sick and And that I didn’t need any thyroid medication so I became more ill. I found a Doctor Who was willing to help me with my thyroid disease and they started me on nature through aid medication. I realize I needed more T4 so he added more T4. Recently I was taking 112 mg of levoxyl and about 5 mg of cytomel.
Avatar n tn Arguing this point was too much stress, so I stayed with the Levoxyl/Cytomel combo. Her suggestion was 4 days 50 mcg Levoxyl, 3 days 75 mcg Levoxyl and daily, 25 mcg Cytomel. I cut back to 75 mcg 2 days a week, as I was hungry all the time, and noted weight gain a month ago, Today, going over recent labs with the primary, she wants to reduce to 50 mcg of Levoxyl 7 days a week. Keeping the Cytomel at the current, 25 daily. I truly have no endo that I feel is competent.
Avatar f tn I've never heard of levoxyl stressing out the adrenals... Typically, when one is hypo, the adrenals will kick in and try to make up for the lack of thyroid hormones; once the hormones are provided, the adrenals should settle back to normal. Weight gain is, typically, a symptom of being hypo. Are you sure your thyroid hormone levels are adequate? If you have current results, please post them, along with reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to be posted with results.
Avatar n tn It means you will need to take thyroid medicine. What has your Dr. told you. Mine was 20 last week so my meds were increased I take Levoxyl. The reason mine went so high in my opinion is because I stopped taking the Levoxyl for a month or so. Felt lousy so had my blood tested and voila! Now I return in 6 weeks for another blood test to find the numbers. Maybe I will stay on the dose or it may need to be adjusted. This was my fault for stopping. They told me they like mine around 2.
Avatar n tn As Dr Lupo said - there are other thyroid medications available for patients to try. Reseaarch thyroid medications and see if your doctor would consider either a change in T4 medication or a T3 T4 combination. it may take some time - but you can find something that may help you feel better.
Avatar f tn How long has your son been on levoxyl? Has he considered switching to a different thyroid replacement medication? Sometimes people react to binders/fillers in the med and switching to a different brand/manufacturer does wonders.
Avatar f tn Was dx with Graves disease almost 12 yrs ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment at that time. Was placed on thyroid medication and seemed to tolerate it with no problems with allergic reactions. For the past 5 months I've been dealing with medication problems and difficulty adjusting my thyroid levels. It went over active and then underactive. I've been on both generic and brand name Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn What you need is a good thyroid doctor. That doesn't necessarily mean an Endo. A good thyroid doctor will diagnose and treat a hypothyroid patient based on symptoms first, along with levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. The goal for medication of a hypothyroid patient is to eliminate signs/symptoms of hypothyroidism, without creating signs/symptoms of hyperthyroidism. That "sweet spot" is called euthyroidism.
393685 tn?1425812522 I can't respond to this poll (not on thyroid medication even though I probably should be on Synthroid), but I couldn't resist commenting on how even the numbers are, at least right now...33% Synthroid, 33% Levothyroxine, 16% Armour, 16% other. Pretty neat!
Avatar m tn m debating on switching off of my current medication (Levoxyl) to Tirosint. I understand that Tirosint is not necessarily more "potent" than the other t4 medications. More of it is just absorbed to my understanding. Medications: Levoxyl- 150 mcg Cytomel- 10 mcg (5mcg twice daily) Thank you.
