Avatar n tn My friend has an attack of TB, after 14 years healthy. She is taking Levofloxacin 500. Is there anything available that will do the trick with less side effects, she is quite sick and I'm worried she might not make it. She is Indonesian and the standard of medical care here leaves plenty to be desired. Any advice would be dearly appreciated.

483814 tn?1214311480 18 years of age). Levofloxacin is contraindicated in persons with known hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolone antibacterials. Serious and occasionally fatal events, such as hypersensitivity and/or anaphylactic reactions and some of unknown etiology, have been reported in patients receiving therapy with quinolones, including levofloxacin.
Avatar f tn Pregnant women should not take doxycycline, ofloxacin, or levofloxacin, but azithromycin is considered to be both safe and effective. Follow-up is not recommended for non-pregnant patients with chlamydia because of the high efficacy of treatment. However, if you have been diagnosed with chlamydia during pregnancy, you should return to your doctor for a check-up 3 weeks after you’re done with treatment since there are potentially serious consequences for your pregnancy and your unborn child.

Avatar m tn I was thereafter diagnosed with a prostate infection of some sort as I had high wbc count in a semen analysis. Urologist put me on 28 days of levofloxacin assuring me that MG was not the cause. Symptoms improved but did not fully go away. I just took another PCR test for MG and it has come back positive again!!!!!! I don't know what line of treatment to follow to get rid of it. Doc is advising Moxi for 7 days. On medhelp and online I've read reports of Moxi failure.
Avatar n tn If you indeed have one of these infections, however, the combination of levofloxacin and azithromycin is likely to cure you and your partner. Levofloxacin is not recommended in pregnancy, but azithromycin alone is likely to be effective. Since you have already treated yourself and your symptoms are improving, perhaps nothing more need be done. But you should not assume an STD was the cause of the problem.

Avatar n tn these include Azithromycin 1 g single dose, or doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 7 days, or levofloxacin 500 mg once daily for 7 days, etc. All these regimens are administered orally. As Chlamydia is a STD, it requires treatment of both partners for effective eradication of infection. Abstinence from sexual intercourse is advised during the course of treatment, but condoms should be used if the infected individuals intend to have sexual intercourse. Do keep us posted on your doubts.
