Avatar f tn I see these color blobs that move in my vision that shouldn’t be there, they don’t show any connection to stimuli so I don’t have synesthesia. I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi. When I was on oxcarbazepine (trileptal) and levetiracetam (keppra) I started having these weird headaches where I would lose my vision, hearing, smell, and coordination, but I could still speak and feel. The doctors are pretty much stumped. Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
502219 tn?1311357910 I read a article recently referring to the fact that Patients with hyponatremia had a higher mortality rate and that UNOS was considering adding sodium levels to the MELD calculation. I also found a MELD calculator that includes sodium at the mayo clinic site http://www.mayoclinic.org/meld/mayomodel8.html My sodium level averages from 128 to 130 and the MELD-NA Calculator gives me a much higher MELD of 20. Are they thinking of changing the MELD calculation?
Avatar n tn Symptoms of moderate hyponatremia include tiredness, disorientation, headache, muscle cramps, and nausea. Severe hyponatremia can lead to seizures and coma. These neurological symptoms are thought to result from the movement of water into brain cells, causing them to swell and disrupt their functioning. Best.
Avatar f tn My problem is that i get these times that either i go to sleep and the doctors not been able to wake me up the next morn and im unresponsive to pain and verbal stimuli ie scoring gcs of 3. My observations are ok but i can be bought round with oxygen too. Has anyone had this? Ive seen one instance but in canada where its been reported. My seizures increased so they have upped clobazam to 3pmg a day Im just worried as live on my own.
Avatar m tn I have my prescription and medical certificates to support my condition. I am curious to know if I can get Levetiracetam refill in the pharmacies in the US or will a doctor prescribe this to me without me going through medical tests. I usually get my tests (primarily EEG and MRIs) in India and want to avoid these tests in the US, because 1. I am in perfect health conditions 2. Even with insurance, they will be extremely expensive. The last partial seizure that lasted a few minutes was in 2012.
Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar m tn At this point of time he is not able to speak more than two words in a row. His Hb is 8.9. He is on valporate, topiramate and levetiracetam. His MRI scan revealed "Assymetric Right Temporal Horn prominence without any difinite evidence of mesial scerosis" His walking pattern is also erratic. Most often he adopts "Toe Walking". When he walks slowly, which is rare, he walks alright. Always he tries to rush up and runs in an imbalancing manner.
Avatar m tn I want to start with the drug that I have the best chance of maintaining my intellect, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and personalty.
Avatar f tn Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte disorder defined as a serum sodium level of less than 135 mEq per L. Treatment is based on symptoms and underlying causes. In general, hyponatremia is treated with fluid restriction (in the setting of euvolemia), isotonic saline (in hypovolemia), and diuresis (in hypervolemia). For more information, see Figure 1 and Table 1 in the following article: https://www.aafp.org/afp/2015/0301/p299.
Avatar n tn 1) The most common symptom is headaches, followed by vision problems, dizziness, and balance problems, and in some cases insomnia, nausea and cognitive deficits, particularly if cognitive deficits are involved. More rare is numbness and tingling. In extreme cases, pineal cysts can result in loss of consciousness and seizure disorder. So please take this seriously, particularly if the cyst is causing intracranial pressure such as hydrocephalus.
Avatar m tn The causes for jerks can be peripheral neuropathies, vitamin and minerals deficiencies, excess caffeine intake, hypoglycemia, and hypothyroidism. He need to undergo blood sugar and thyroid status to rule out the cause. He may have to take vitamin B-complex supplementation. First important step for management is treat identifiable cause. Pharmacotherapy usually involves drug modulating GABAergic neurotransmission like Levetiracetam, Piracetam, Clonazepam or Valproic acid against prescription.
Avatar f tn If you have hyponatremia maybe. Did they do a blood test? How long did they say to eat more then average sodium?
Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old male and I've been suffering from grand mal and partial complex seizures for almost 20 years. I take Keppra and Lamictal, and thought I don't have any problems getting and keeping an erection, I find it almost impossible to ejaculate when I'm with my partner. Even when I masturbate, it takes a lot of time and concentration to achieve orgasm.
1108262 tn?1273179266 After getting a new psych doctor and a therapist, we all decided to work together to get me off of Trileptal, as the pdoc felt it had not really helped me, and the therapist helped me deal with the depression and anxiety as well. Pdoc also was worried about the hyponatremia and "twitches". (These are really weird side effects most people don't get, but I guess I am very sensitive.
1328714 tn?1294578263 If memory loss is on it I would recommend trying Keppra (Levetiracetam), it is quite new and has virtually no major side effects. I have been on it since just before christmas, and I feel better and my memory is improved. The frontal lobe is actually the memory part of your brain, so unfortunately it is inevitable your memory is a tadge unreliable. I can sympathize with you as I have epilepsy, and have done for the past 4 1/2 yrs. The next few months will be hard but you can get through it.
571167 tn?1223214465 I do not believe the medications the medical community has place him on are worth the side-effects. They placed him on Levetiracetam, Benztropine, and Abilify, and the side-effects are NOT worth the potential benefit of what--self-control? I have worked with youth in placement for 18 years, and these medications do not make any significant difference in their judgments because they do not change their value system.
Avatar n tn What would be a rough formula for calculating sodium excretion. This has to handle extreme results like acute hyponatremia and hypernatremia. What is the maximum excretion at which point the body is unable to keep up with consumption? This information will not be used for any actual medical purpose on any actual organism, inaccuracy is acceptable and even intended to keep the calculations simple.
9993344 tn?1407128563 My mom is currently taking Diazepam, Levetiracetam and Alprazolam.
Avatar f tn i was put on keppra and now am having a lot of confusion and am very tired and extremely moody. is this related to the seizure and or the medication?

Avatar m tn carbamazepine, clobazam, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine and topiramate. These medications rarely stop the seizures completely but reduce the frequency and severity of them. I hope this helps, my prayers are with you and your son.
Avatar m tn Hi, Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to hyponatremia. This is most commonly seen in infants under six months of age and sometimes in athletes. This also results when a dehydrated person drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes. Excess water outside the cells draws sodium from within the cells out to re-establish the necessary concentration. As more water accumulates, the serum sodium concentration drops , hence, hyponatremia.
Avatar f tn sarahthemace is correct when she points out that hypoxia is the wrong word. I used it in haste, remembering it as the word for hyponatremia. Here is an article on the condition, hyponatremia, commonly called "water intoxication." All the articles about it mention that it happens only if a lot of water is drunk in a relatively short period of time. http://www.scientificamerican.
Avatar f tn (looking for autoimmune, leukemia, other infection...) Get checked for tuberculosis, hypercalcemia, and hyper/hyponatremia (too much or too little sodium)...I'll chew on this some more and get back to you...
