Common Questions and Answers about Levemir pen flexpen

levemir

Avatar n tn my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
Avatar n tn It was just unreliable in that it would sometimes leak with injection so I never knew if I was getting the proper dosage. I switched to Levemir (flex pen) a couple of years ago, and it has been fine. Both Lantus and Levemir are the peakless insulins. They provide your "background coverage" all day long (24 hours). When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same.
Avatar f tn I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?
Avatar m tn THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING NOVOLOG MIX 70/30 FLEXPEN [APRIL 2009] NORDISK SUGGESTED THAT EITHER THE SAMPLE PEN(S) WERE BAD OR THEY WERE NOT STORED PROPERLY [REFRIGERATED} AT THE DOCS OFFICE !! STOPPED USING SAMPLES UNTIL MY ORDER CAME IN .. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!
Avatar n tn I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
Avatar f tn How are your BG Numbers, Many have found that Levemir does not last a full 24 hours.
1111143 tn?1259092353 I just joined MedHelp, but I like what I've seen so far. I just setup a Diabetes tracker. I've got a question for you. My doctor recently put me on Levemir FlexPen Insulin. She told me to inject 20 units just before bed, increasing it by 2 units each night until my morning fasting level is 120 or below. I'm already up to 45 units, but my fasting level this morning was still over 300. How much is too much insulin? The pen only goes up to 60 units in one shot.
Avatar f tn I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.
Avatar n tn My 13-year-old daughter has been on Lantus since her diagnosis one year ago (along with the Novolog pen). Lately at night (bedtime), she has increased anxiety, to the point of uncontrolled crying and worrying about all sorts of things. Maybe it's just hormones kicking in, but seems more than that. When I have her test during these anxiety episodes, she's within normal range. Has anyone else experienced this with their child?
Avatar n tn My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high. I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar n tn It was working so well for me previously. I went to a new endo about a year ago, and he suggested I try Levemir instead of the Lantus. Once I started the Levemir, I noticed a marked improvement with more consistent bg levels. I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
Avatar m tn I am still trying to get a handle on my diabetes. I am using FlexPen and take 2 shots of 24 units a day. I am starting to get depressed by all the weight gain and even just the daily fight with my Blood Glucose. I need someone to talk to who understands because I try to talk to my husband but he just doesn't understand.
Avatar n tn I am trying to lower my sugar level with the help of humalog and levemir. Medhelp members are helping me to do the job. In the mean time I have been successful in lowering the sugar to some extents. I also could know how to dose the insulin for the best results I appriciate the cotributions done by MEDHELP and its members.
1760800 tn?1406753451 Is anyone out there looking at using the new pen. My new neuro has prescribed it for me and I will start using it in July, And if I wasn't impressed enough with him at my appointment. We discussed the pen when I had my appt on May 9th. He called in a script for it for me on May 10th! Nice to know he is on the ball, listens to me and does things even without being asked! I am very fortunate to have found two good neuros. The first who dx'd me and the 2nd who is a MS specialist.
Avatar f tn Inside the pen, where the insulin is contained I found a silver object. I did not inject myself, but would like to know who I could talk to about product liability and quality control. I still have the container even though the pharmacy company wants it back.
Avatar f tn Yesterday at work someone shot me in the eye with a basic lazer red beam pen 650nm 5mW for about 4 seconds before I realized it. Today the eye seems to be a little weaker then the other. When I close the eye that was hit long distance seems to be blurry compared to the eye that was not hit seems to be better. Could this pen possibly have done damage? If so permanently? Or am I just being paranoid and over reacting?
Avatar f tn Just saw an advertisement for a new device called the Heartcheck PEN. It's $189 and when you feel palpitations you can immediately record an EKG with it. You can also download software so that for a fee you can forward your EKG to a physician, a monitoring center or both, and have it read and sent back to you. The website is theheartcheck.com. If this is as advertised it would be great for all the things that don't seem to happen while wearing a holter monitor.
