Levemir in the am

Common Questions and Answers about Levemir in the am

levemir

Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar f tn Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar f tn by the way I am NOT a doctor, I am on insulin and I too have taken the wrong insulin at times.
Avatar n tn Carbs provide a surge of BG so a surge of insulin is needed to regulate the BG, that is the function of rapid insulin. Levemir is a Basal insulin provides a long term (24 hour) insulin supply. Levemir is NOT meant to counter BG rise due to food. eating food will raise BG for 2, 3 or 4 hours levemir lasts 24 hours a rapid insulin lasts about 4 hours so it matches the BG result from food.
Avatar n tn I was taking insulin only in the abdomen. Yestaerday, I took Levemir on right thigh, humalog in the left thigh. I could not make effective use of the pattern of sugar to take decision. Anxiety is also factor for sugar and pressure increase.
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn When I started using 2u Lantus in morning, 2 weeks ago, I'd go low in the late afternoon/early evening, and then my morning sugars would be elevated ... 140s, 150s. So I split the dose: I'm now using 1.5u Lantus AM & 1u Lantus PM. It definitely works better than 2u QD, and I've checked the middle of the night - not a problem. The drug sheet for Lantus doesn't mention BID dosing, but my internet articles do. What are your thoughts, and is Levemir better for BID dosing?
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn The answer is yes. If you do so, you may require a little less insulin. The thing is some diabetics respond to chromium and some don't. The reasons for this are unclear. The Chromium sold in healthfood stores as Chromium (GTF) glucose tolerance factor is my recommendation. The same time each day eary in the morning is best, at least in the beginning. That way you will be up and about to moniter glucose levels. Waverider has the right info.
Avatar f tn about blood sugars in the 800s, and your husband seems to be in denial of the results of extremely high blood sugars. I don't think cinnamon is a safe recommendation for someone with high enough blood sugars to have ketones and at risk for DKA. DKA can be a life threatening emergency.
Avatar f tn He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar f tn It sounds like you need an increase in your night time long acting insulin in order to counteract the Dawn Phenomenon. (Hopefully you take one of the newer insulins like Lantus or Levemir because it is too hard to control blood sugar with the older insulins such as Regular or 70/30). You might also need to be starting on fast acting mealtime insulins, depending on your numbers at other times. That is much too high.
Avatar n tn Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337. He is very depressed and I feel so bad for him.
Avatar n tn I havnt seen a lot of results yet.
Avatar f tn I usually gave myself shots in the upper stomach area, so I moved the shots to my legs with no improvement. I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
Avatar n tn I am trying to lower my sugar level with the help of humalog and levemir. Medhelp members are helping me to do the job. In the mean time I have been successful in lowering the sugar to some extents. I also could know how to dose the insulin for the best results I appriciate the cotributions done by MEDHELP and its members.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic 2. Taking Levemir 23 units at night. 13 unit humalog in every meal. Sugar is not very well controlled yet. But does not go above 10 mmol/l . I feel shortness of breath, if I walk or quickly come in the bed. Before 6 months EKG was done and no problem.
Avatar m tn That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.
Avatar n tn In the morning they are lower 100's for example, today was 112. Never higher than 130. I've been on my long acting plan for some time now it's 20 of Lantas around 9 p.
Avatar n tn Do these sounds like allergies and has anyone else had the same problems? I also get up in the morning aching all over and this also started with the Lantus.
20693191 tn?1503884408 I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough. During the day my ratios went from 1:7 to 1:6. Still, my readings were too low in the morning, when waking up. She lowered it again to 36 but I had to change my ration to 1:5 I'm really not sure what the hell is going on. I'm exercising almost every day to keep my levels at a normal rate.
Avatar n tn Make the child become an active participant in their own health and well-being, so they can feel like they are the ones who have control over it and little by little they will come around because they will start to see the difference in how they feel and how they are able to get along in the world. Do some internet searches on "ADHD medications and insulin" and you will see some interesting studies that you can show to your child and have a discussion about.
Avatar n tn you can use them at your desk when taking small breaks, or at home in front of the tv. I personally am not overly fond of going to a gym, either. I like to try to do the simpler ways of adding exercise to my day.
Avatar n tn I was on Lantus and everytime that I took the shot I would get sick about 20 to 30 minutes later... I am also on Metformin I stopped taking the latus and the vomiting stopped and everything is good now that I am only taking Metformin and not the Lantus.... I think that I was having a reaction to the latus and my Doctor told me that my numbers are good so to not take the lantus....
Avatar n tn I told her I wanted to start getting my health in order to get pregnant in a year. She advised against me ever getting pregnant. She said in my case I would be a higher risk than a normal diabetic. I'm a type 1 diabetic and have had it for 20 years. It is poorly managed. A1C was 10.2. Every diabetic Doctor I have been to has given up on me because my blood sugar does not follow their plan. I also have bipolar disorder and it makes it hard to want to take care of myself at some times.
