Levemir conversion to lantus

Common Questions and Answers about Levemir conversion to lantus

levemir

1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn Hi, If this low dose of lantus twice daily is working for you without any problems, there is no reason to change it. Lantus is written as once daily but many doctors(including myself) and patients split the dose because even though it is supposed to be "peakless", it is not for some people. At low doses it works especially well as a split dose. Levemir can be used instead, and is more commonly written as twice daily.
Avatar f tn Thinking about going back on lantus to see if the weight comes off then i can prove to her that Its the meds. Has anyone taken toujeo if so what was your experience? Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn It was working so well for me previously. I went to a new endo about a year ago, and he suggested I try Levemir instead of the Lantus. Once I started the Levemir, I noticed a marked improvement with more consistent bg levels. I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
20693191 tn?1503884408 Hi.I have a question. I've been a diabetic Type 1 for close to 45 years. Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough.
Avatar f tn And what do you call "eating low carb"? I eat under 50gr a day.
Avatar n tn Hi jchitty, There is actually a really simpe reason to why Lantus stings when coming into contact with the body. The reason lies back to the pH value of the Lantus and the pH value of your body. Values of pH simply describe how acidic or how basic a solution is, the closer to 1 the solution is more acidic and the closer to 14 the solution is, the more basic.
Avatar n tn Do not be afraid to ask your physician to work with you to determine if the Lantus is the cause, and get you on an alternative medication if you feel it is the right solution for you. It is your diabetes and your life.
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
Avatar n tn I did not start any other meds with the Lantus. I also became proactive last night and stopped the Lantus. I went back to my NovoRapid, Novolin NPH routine. Will see how I feel in a couple of days. Today went well. I want to find out before discussion with the dr. if this could be the problem, otherwise they will have nothing to compare it to because as I am finding out there are many different reactions as there are people.
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
Avatar f tn One protocol is to take your blood glucose at night, then administer enough Novalog to bring it to normal levels. Then inject Lantus sufficient to bring the levels to normal in the morning.
Avatar n tn However, you may find that your fasting blood sugar becomes higher due to the dawn rise now being at the end of the lantus action. Alternatively, talk to you dr about using levemir. This is dosed morning and night and the dose can be different for morning and evening to target optimal blood sugars. There is also a new insulin called Tresiba. Many find that this gives very stable blood sugars with less risk of lows. You may also discuss this with your Dr.
Avatar f tn I would suggest you take your daughter to an endo and ask to have her placed on the more up to date treatment regimen of a long-acting basal, which would be either Lantus or Levemir, and bolus such as the Humalog with a dose determined by insulin:carb ratio. I also highly recommend the book, Using Insulin by John Walsh.
Avatar f tn It began with chills at night, severe dry heaves, (unable to throw up due to reflux surgery) and diahhrea. My doctor said he thought I had a virus. I could not figure out what was going on. I usually gave myself shots in the upper stomach area, so I moved the shots to my legs with no improvement. I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away.
Avatar n tn Funny, I posted a similar e-mail 2 weeks ago. But I have to say that insulin does cause the person to gain weight and age does not help either. I got that information from Kaiser Permanente's web health library. I began to gain weight when a was placed on 4 shots per day. In addition, I also have to take neurontin which also has weight gain as a contraindication. So, inform your self by researching the contraindications of insulin as well as checking on all your meds.
Avatar m tn What were the reasons explained to you by the medical practitioners to "add to my Diabetes Type II meds regime" two orals and one injectable insulin? What meds are you currently taking? W/o knowing you medical history it would be hard to answer your first question. As for the second ?, what do you mean by non-reversable step?
1340011 tn?1276617767 t think of the name of it) I have some issues 2 herniated disks in my neck and I broke my foot (which stills hurts when walking too far) so exercising is a bit hard but I am trying to do water aerobics 3 nights a week which is hard to do and then I am going to try stationary bike. I am overweight by about 70 pounds. I had it all off and gained it back. I thank you for your help and if there is anything else you can add, please feel free. I appreciate your help.
Avatar n tn NPH and regular Humilin are older therapies. Something like Lantus or Levemir as the long acting and something like Novolog or another fast acting insulin are much more common these days. They give more consistent coverage with fewer spikes. Does he have hypoglycemia unawareness? If he's getting down to 19, it sounds like he may. That is a condition where he can't tell he's getting low. It is possible to correct the condition, you just have to work out a plan with his endo.
Avatar f tn (Hopefully you take one of the newer insulins like Lantus or Levemir because it is too hard to control blood sugar with the older insulins such as Regular or 70/30). You might also need to be starting on fast acting mealtime insulins, depending on your numbers at other times. That is much too high. If you have a fast acting insulin you can also use it to correct those morning highs. People have mixed experiences with snacks to counter DP.
Avatar n tn Levemir is a Basal insulin provides a long term (24 hour) insulin supply. Levemir is NOT meant to counter BG rise due to food. eating food will raise BG for 2, 3 or 4 hours levemir lasts 24 hours a rapid insulin lasts about 4 hours so it matches the BG result from food.
Avatar n tn I did however have an incident recently that took me to the ER. When I injected the Lantus into my ab, I was immediately able to taste it. I went to bed and woke up about an hour later with a blood sugar of 36. My daughter panicked and called 911. I was told in the ER that I had a common insulin reaction. It wasn't until the next day when I saw my family doctor that I found out that I did indeed hit a vein.
