t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. So I was told a long time ago I have a bad allergy to penicillin, I just found out penicillium produces penicillin and was wondering because brie cheese has a rind made of penicillium if it's safe for me to eat this cheese? then when I get in, I had to wait again and fill out a ton of paperwork on what kind of allergies I had, I was only there to get a stinking allergy test done to see if I was allergic to penicillin, not for all the other bologna that I was questioned about. My mom was waiting in the car with my two kids and my niece (since I do not drive). I did not know how horribly long this rediculous appt. was going to last!

I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.

t believe how few doctors warn their patients who are allergic to penicillin to avoid foods that may contain penicillin - and that would be most poultry products, other commercial meat products and possibly dairy products. Buy food that are antibiotic free - believe me it works to avoid allergens.

Thank you doctor I think i will insist on the shots. Would an allergy test tell me if I'm allergic to the penicillin? I took two doses of penicillin V 2 years ago for an eye infection and had a reaction to it (urticaria, fever). I then thought it was an allergic reaction but thinking about it it could have been the jarisch-herxheimer reaction. Would a simple allergy test tell me if i'm actually allergic to it?
