Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin liver

levaquin

Avatar n tn I do not know whom to believe. I took 7 days of Levaquin and did feel better. Now my liver enzymes are slightly elevated, and I'm not sure if it is the Levaquin, or the bacteria causing the elevation, and is areomonas a pathogen or not?
179856 tn?1333547362 Nygirl, When I was on treatment, I got sick and my neuts fell to zero, I was on IV levaquin for 15 days and went home with oral levaquin for a few more weeks. I have cirrhosis. My liver enzymes didn't even budge. I think you will be ok, too. While we have to be cautious and make sure our docs are doing the right thing, many of those warnings are weighed against the benefits of taking the drug.
483814 tn?1214311480 I am very hush hush about the hep c. When I answered that I did not have any liver problems he gave me 5 days worth of Levaquin. I don't know however if I should take it. He told me that levaquin was not the ideal antibiotic to treat the condition however it was all that we had samples of . My nose hurts really bad and I am considering taking the levaquin.
Avatar f tn Upper abdominal pain (off the charts) at 4am/5am that was similar to a gallbladder attack (but gallbladder was removed in 2009). My liver enzymes are sky high.
Avatar f tn -( My Lyme doc has refused to prescribe either matronidazole or Levaquin as he says they are too heavy on the liver and have to many potential side effects. Yet I keep reading they are great for treating bart as well as lyme. I wonder if I should insist a bit more and keep on at him. What do you think?
4451049 tn?1387153437 Both levaquin and Cipro gave me 'tendonitis' ALL over the body. Not just the Achilles tendon! Not a rupture, which is what a lot of the articles are about---- 'just' pain. For years. Still bad. :( Not what everyone gets---- so until you try them you won't know. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn yes the Tylenol really can and does destroy your liver .Go see your doctor he can do a simple blood test the we let him know who your liver is working .
997730 tn?1254278376 Good grief. I think my GP prescribed me an antibiotic that might cause liver damage. (Doxycycline) Last Thurs I developed a huge boil on my chin, it was clearly infected and grew huge in just 2 days, so I went to the GP (who knows I'm on tx), and she prescribed Doxycycline (100mg 2 times a day for 7 days). I've been taking them at a different time than my Riba, which is a good thing because I just puked my guts out.
Avatar f tn Hi all! I'm a recently diagnosed active TB patient (back in April) now it's June and I have been on and off TB meds (RIFAMPIN, Ethambutol, Isonazid, and PZA). I don't have any previous liver issues that I know of My Liver enzymes have been 5x higher than normal & for the 3rd time they have had to stop my meds (1st time had Nausea/V & malaise that triggered to stop+ high LFTs).
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage. Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I am now feeling pain here and there, but no idea if it's related. 1994720 tn?1352742233 I just wanted to update that the tendon issues and every other weird symptom under the sun is from fluoroquinolone toxicity from Levaquin. I was given IV Levaquin and steroids for my bout with sepsis and this is the result. I still have tendon issues, horrible neuropathy, and met several others with consistently high b12 and other b vitamin levels with FQ toxicity.
Avatar m tn Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
Avatar m tn m slowly testing different foods to see what the reaction is - I never had any food allergies prior to Levaquin. It could just be coincidental timing or a combination of symptoms from Levaquin that just happen to end around the time I try something different, but it's definitely been a long ride. This has changed my life. 3 years will have gone by this August 2013 - that's how long its taken to get me this far.
Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
Avatar f tn t even believe it was a kidney infection. So, to treat this infection, they put me on levaquin. Mind you that levaquin should not be used by a young adult, such as myself. I was put on a heavy dosage for a little over a month and suddenly began getting odd symptoms such as a knee swelling to to the size of a melon.
Avatar n tn I came home that day washed very well and started drinking a lot of fluids. I ended up starting to take antibiotics as well. I had a prescription for Levaquin 500 mg pills. I have 20 days worth. Will that kill anything that I could have contracted?
Avatar n tn I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?
Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
Avatar f tn I've been hospitalized five times since the end of January. 2016 for recurrent Sepsis. The offending bacteria include E. Choli, Enterococcus, and others that live happily in the bowel. Admissions have ranged from 4 to 9 days. After the 4th admission, doctors said they didn't know what the underlying problem was, and suggested I might have better luck at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. After two visits to Mayo in MN, where nothing was found, I was admitted the 5th time back home.
Avatar m tn Again the symptoms receded but again they returned. This time my doctor prescribed Levaquin (7 days x 500 mg) and 1 shot of Ceftriaxone. I was re-tested for Chlamydia and don't have the results yet. I read scary reports of serious side effects of Levaquin. It's potent but has risks which is why it's given only as a second line of defense. I'm nervous about taking it and I'm wondering if there are effective alternatives to this.
Avatar f tn Hello about 3 months ago I was prescribed Levaquin for an upper respirtory infection. Well I did experience the normal side effects listed online but then started getted ringing in my ears. I only had a few days left of the medication and didn't realize the ringing wouldn't go away since the doctor told me it was due to an ear infection. I have been off balance and have had visual problems and anxiety of not feeling right sometimes through the day.
