Levaquin for aspiration pneumonia

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin for aspiration pneumonia

levaquin

Avatar m tn He has a small patch of pneumonia on the lung uncured for about three months now, and he has been on and off Levaquin. The cardiologist saw this and told me that he thinks my father has months to live. He feels mental cloudiness and inability to walk are confirmation that the heart has become too weak to support normal function. The doctor holds out hope that if we can treat the pneumonia and any electrolyte imbalances that we might get him to snap out of this.
Avatar f tn In looking at the drug interaction information, it seems that those who are taking the corticosteriods, are even more at risk for muscle rupture and more at risk for developing pneumonia. A chest x-ray a couple of days ago confirmed that I do NOT have pneumonia now, but I can still hear sounds in my lungs when I do deep breathing.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn //www.healthline.com/health/aspiration-pneumonia. How are you now? There are symptoms of aspiration pneumonia but they normally last longer than a short bit. https://www.healthline.com/health/aspiration-pneumonia#treatment. Please let us know how you are doing now.
Avatar n tn I took 20 days of levaquin 3 years ago for pneumonia. I was 39 years of age, healthy with no other problems and took no other medications. On day 15 I developed severe total body aching. I took all 20 days, eventually recovered from the pneumonia but then suffered tendon pain primarily in my elbows and knees for 2 years. During the time I took the drug, I had a lot of muscle twitching. One year ago I started having random shooting pain that has progressed.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar m tn After earlier courses of Amoxicillin, then Zithromax, upon determining Pneumonia I have been prescribed Levaquin, a much stronger antibiotic; But the Levaquin costs $ 264, which I can not afford. Is there a comparable antibiotic I can take that is more reasonably priced?
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn iam just geting over pneumonia and i have started getting joint pain.
Avatar n tn My friend and I diagnosed it as brochitis or pneumonia so I took 7 Levaquin, one a day for 7 days (had it in the house). Still felt bad after a week or so and went to my doctor who prescribed same Levaquin 500 mg for 7 days. My doctor ordered chest xrays and blood work. Blood work was just a little off she said not sure what was high or low as this was told to me over the phone.
Avatar n tn my doctor ordered blood work and chest x-ray and given Levaquin 500 mg 1 day for 7 days then in 3 weeks another chest xray. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you.
Avatar m tn Aspiration pneumonia is a result of constant acid reflux into the stomach. You've probably haven't developed it yet, and you'll be probably fine, when you control your stomach infection, since this should stop your burping. Aspiration pneumonia can be only prevented, not really treated. Steroids maybe, but I guess, you don't have pneumonia already.
Avatar m tn Do not take Levaquin for a sore throat. The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.
Avatar m tn I was on Levaquin for pneumonia....I developed such leg pain and ended up in the ER..had to stop it...it really can cause some joint pain...I cannot take it either...
5601163 tn?1370701672 I recently underwent a two week course of Levaquin for pneumonia. On the follow-up visit with my doctor, a chest x-ray showed "right basilar opacity," which caused my doctor to order a CT scan. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn Hi Doctor, at lunch today I was taste testing my yellow rice to see if it was soft enough to finish a recipe and choked on a couple of pieces. I coughed and then made myself cough a number of times 'just in case', but am concerned it went into my lungs and might cause aspiration pneumonia. I have no lung problems.
Avatar m tn A few years ago I had Pneumonia for nine weeks, although I was never as sick as your sister, I was very sick. At the end of nine weeks with nothing helping, my doctor gave me a cortizone shot! this did it for me I was well (totally well) within 24 hours. The cortizone shot they gave me was a clear liquid given in the upper hip with a needle so small there is NO PAIN! I have had Bronchitis many times since, and it works well for that too. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn 30 days ago I swallowed a piece of granola bar the wrong way. I coughed something bad; I couldn't stop for 5 minutes. After coughing my voice was deeper and raspier and my throat hurt some for a couple of days. About 5 times since my voice has gotten deep again and weird sounding just for a couple of minutes here and there like the day this happened.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that aspiration pneumonia (oatmeal lodged in the trachea) can exacerbate COPD and/or asthma, thus causing the mild hyperinflation on an x-ray? The 70-yr-old patient is a former smoker (most of her life) and was found w/ an O2 sat of 40% that was a result of the bolus of food that the paramedics had to "force" a breathing tube through. Keep in mind, neither the amount of time that the oatmeal was lodged, nor the amount of time the O2 was low, cannot be verified.
Avatar f tn Again I was given an antibiotic shot and this time, Levaquin and Sulfamethoxazole. I have been on this for 3 days now. The fatigue and fever are still there, the tightness in my chest is gone. I am otherwise, a healthy 46 year old female. I travel alot for business so I am in planes and hotels alot. Thank you.
620048 tn?1358018235 In MS, Aspiration Pneumonia can be related to issues with swallowing or gastric reflux. Stomach contents and saliva can cause problems in the lungs. Sometime occupational and speech therapists can help with swallowing issues. I have no idea whether sleeping upright on pillows or a recliner works. It seems to help reflux patients keep the stomach contents down. I suspect that it may help with the drainage of saliva. Let us know what you find out.
1416390 tn?1333901604 He has a cough and they can not tell whether it is pneumonia or cancer from the xrays. If it is pneumonia- they want to see the bacteria. We have paid for 5 xrays so far and the procedure is going to be $700. Does this sound right? I would ask my vet- but he is not interested in our situation- I guess if it is not money in his pocket he does not care.
Avatar f tn I got a barrium swallow and it was normal so i assumed it was an anxiety issue, Then after I got the pneumonia i saw something on the internet about aspiration pneumonia and it scared me because I still feel lump in throat and nausea at times. Could I have aspirated something into my lungs? I am being treated for pneumonia but I dont know what type. cant get a hold of dr because of holiday.
Avatar m tn Aspiration is a common event. The aspiration can lead to bronchitis or pneumonia, often with cough and the cough may persist for a long time. Food is one type of foreign body that is aspirated. Only 20% of all objects aspirated are show up directly on chest x-ray, also called radio-opaque, and 40% will have a normal chest x-ray.
