6889053 tn?1386025503 Hello, my husband and I have been trying to conceive since we've gotten married 8 yrs ago. I was diagnosed with pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in 2006. I'm not overweight, and my cycles come every month but not consistently. Well, this entire month of Nov., I have not gotten my period. I thought I might finally be pregnant so I went to my dr. and the test was negative. How can this be?? I get my period every month, finally miss a cycle, and it's negative?
Avatar f tn OK, I have irregular cycles and I also have PCOS, my ob said for my husband and I to. Start trying to conceive, my ob upped my dosage of Metformin to 2, 500mg a day and to stop taking my birth control. He said if I don't have a period within 35 days come back, well its been two days on Metformin and I have already started, but I was wondering how long do I have to take this before I can get Clomid?

Avatar m tn t had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...

Avatar n tn t work so I was switched to letrozole. I had just given up on that to go back to metformin, but find out I was pregnant. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hello, I too have PCOS and insulin resistance. I was on clomid but still not ovulating for several months. My endocrinologist put me on metformin as well and both my doctors agreed it might help with conception. I was also told to cut out simple carbs and refined sugar. After 3 months of metformin and monthly clomid cycles I finally ovulated in August. And amazingly I conceived the same month. Just had my first prenatal visit and saw the heartbeat yesterday!
519935 tn?1216151210 I am 30 years old and me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 1 year now. Started with 50 mg clomid and went up to 150 mg. changed 2 doctors in the course. Had 1 IUI with Clomid done in Feb'08. Changed to 3rd doctor after that..and he switched me to Letrozole in Mar and did an IUI with it. He also put me on Metformin and Synthroid and said I have mild PCOS. Got laparoscopy done in Apr and found level 2 endometriosis.
Avatar f tn I do not ovulate on my own and I never get periods due to my PCOS which have been diagnosed 2 years ago. I have been taking Metformin 1500mg/day and sometimes Provera 10mg to get a period and then Letrozole 7.5mg cd 5-9 but never got any results. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years. Im 26 years old and desperate to have a baby.
Avatar f tn I have pcos as well and have never had regular periods. With my first child, I was taking metformin and using ovulation kits. I am now pregnant with my second child. This time I tried clomid (with no success) then switched to letrozole. I was about to go back to taking metformin, but found out I was pregnant. It is very difficult when you barely ever ovulate. Good luck!

7634030 tn?1407358368 Hi! If you were my patient, I would try switching to Letrozole and possibly adding Metformin to your regimen. I would continue with up to five more IUIs. If it hasn't worked by then, I would refer you for IVF. Good luck!

Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, My dr. prescribed me to provera to help me get a period. I took it for 7 days, 1 tablet a day, at 10mg. I'm also on 1000 mg of metformin, and 100mg of spironolactone each day. I've finished my 7 days of the provera and have not had a cycle. I've had spotting but no full fledge flow. This is very concerning to me. After I went off the pill in July of 2010, I was getting cycles each month, not always the same days apart, but pretty close.
Avatar f tn I found out that my my body is resistant to insulin, that is why it took so long to get pregnant and that is why I miscarried. I was on metformin to control insulin levels. i also was on clomid. But I think the metformin kept everything under control. I did ovulate on my own, but the clomid expands your days. Also, my male hormones where high. Make sure they check all that by blood tests first. Thanks.

Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
Avatar m tn Gave me symptoms. I am now on letrozole. Also experiencing symptoms. Will letrozole keep this cancer away. Is there a smaller does than 2.5 of letrozole that I can take.
1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar f tn Studies have shown that up to 80% will benefit from such treatment. Many who failed to ovulate with letrozole or metformin therapy will respond when rechallenged with these medications after ovarian drilling. Interestingly, women in these studies who are smokers, rarely responded to the drilling procedure. Side effects are rare, but may result in adhesion formation or ovarian failure if the procedure is performed by an inexperienced surgeon.
