1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar f tn Anyone get pregnant using femara/letrozole after being given unexplained infertility diagnosis? How many months did you take it before you got your positive? Me: 28 Hubby: 30 Sperms analysis perfect, laparoscopy perfect, all tests for ovulation and ultrasounds looked perfect. Trying since 2012 no pregnancy yet This is my 2nd cycle on femara, next ovulation expected on 1/14. If 3rd cycle not successful, will do iui with femara anyone else done this and got pregnant? ?
Avatar f tn So have you had problems with a thin uterine lining in the past? I did several cycles on letrozole (femara), and never had to use estrogen. If the estrogen supplement is just given as a precaution, I would have them check to see if you actually need it...and if it's not necessary, just skip it. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn What is a good way to thicken the uterine lining. My lining my last two cycles have been 7mm then 5mm. I was on clomid both times, and my RE has switched me to Letrozole. I'm going on vacation this month so won't start a cycle till October. I heard baby aspirin will help, but not sure if this is safe.
Avatar f tn yes, long term use of Tamoxifen seems to indirectly cause Sjogren-like symptoms, by decreasing estrogen levels. But the decrease in estrogen level is precisely the effect that the Tamoxifen treatment wishes to achieve, since only with low circulating estrogen can breast cancer progression/recurrence be prevented.
Avatar n tn I just had a second biopsy that found many of the cells are loosing their Estrogen Receptivity. Has any body heard of HR status changing and how could this happen?
Avatar f tn Hi there! Oh congrats! Feels so good to take thee steps, doesn't it? !! Have you been trying a long time? Letrozole reduces estrogen to stimulate ovulation I believe. It stimulates the ovaries. So, side effects for this might include hot flashes, headaches and breast tenderness (kind of like menopause symptoms). Irritability and some anxiety may also be present. Good times, right? But worth it overall. Ovidrel is the trigger shot. It triggers the release of the egg.
Avatar f tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. Both of these medications have similar FDA approved indications.
Avatar n tn The doc stated that he would have to get a shot every 6 months or so i belive it was estrogen to keep his bone age where it is. She said the shot was originated for women who had one breast removed due to breast cancer. The shot stopped cancer from spreading to the other breast. What ever it is that stops it from spreading is what is going to stop his bone age. She has never heard of anyone taking this treatment for so long think she is kind of in the dark.
Avatar n tn Letrozole is an estrogen blocker per se, prevents the conversion of the body's male hormones to estrogen and therefore slows maturation of the bones,It is used in breast cancer and tends to lower the body's estrogen and may raise testosterone levels, it is sometimes used with growth hormone. however it can also affect the liver and use of it is controversial in regards to its true benefit.
628735 tn?1273875777 It works in the ovary to decrease the amount of the hormone Estrogen that is produced. This decrease of Estrogen is sensed by the Pituitary Gland in the brain and it responds by producing more of the hormone FSH. Because of the increased levels of FSH, the ovary is able to produce more than one egg. This incredases the chance of pregnancy. Because Letrozole is cleared from the body more rapidly than Clomid, there may be a better uterine lining produced and better cervical mucous.
725941 tn?1297882209 I have! It's basically very similar to clomid, but has less side effects ;-) I don't have any problems ovulating on my own, but my RE wanted me to try it anyway. I did four cycles, and had two follicles three of the months and one follicle one month. Best of luck!

Avatar f tn My fertility doctor has now prescribed several hormone supplements. I need to take Letrozole (to help ovulation), Premarin (=estrogen to help build up uterin lining) and duphaston. I was wondering if it is safe to combine this treatment with herbal supplements. I was thinking Evening Primrose Oil (period - ovulation), Flax Seed Oil (ovulation - period) and raspberry leaf tablets (all cycle). Does anyone know whether this is ok? Doe anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn Gave me symptoms. I am now on letrozole. Also experiencing symptoms. Will letrozole keep this cancer away. Is there a smaller does than 2.5 of letrozole that I can take.
Avatar m tn I used a relatively high dose of gonal-f and menopur for the first (7 eggs, 2 embryos) and the highest dosages of gonal-f (450)and menopur (150), along with clomid and ganerelix for the last two(11 eggs, 2 embryos, cancelled and 4 eggs, 1 embryo, BFN). My peak estrogen level was 1900 on the last cycle. My FSH, LH, and E2 levels are good. FSH was, last month, 6.7. The problem is, alas, my age (42) and, hence, my egg quality. I have spoken to a number of REs. Here are the protocls: 1.
6889053 tn?1386025503 Hello, my husband and I have been trying to conceive since we've gotten married 8 yrs ago. I was diagnosed with pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in 2006. I'm not overweight, and my cycles come every month but not consistently. Well, this entire month of Nov., I have not gotten my period. I thought I might finally be pregnant so I went to my dr. and the test was negative. How can this be?? I get my period every month, finally miss a cycle, and it's negative?

Avatar n tn am, Tamoxifen is a drug that blocks the action of the hormone estrogen. Side effects of this drug may include : nausea, hot flashes, weight gain or headache. 1319297 tn?1274794630 I took 10 letrozole pills on May 2nd and then the HCG shot on the 12th and I have been really moody and emotional since. I've taken clomid before and expected it but they told me these would have no side effects. This is my first time doing the whole fertility process after having surgery for endometriosis. Am I just psyching myself out or has anyone else experienced bad mood swings after the shot or pills?
749784 tn?1233499310 Femara is an aromatase inhibitor, which inhibits the body from producing estrogen. I have a friend that got 2 remissions from taking Femara. She was stage IIIC. Her first remission was 15 months and her second one was 11 months. Only 1/3 of women with estrogen receptor positive ovarian cancer response to Femara so your mom is fortunate in that. I'd stick with it for now since it seems to be working and "save" other treatments in case she needs them.
Avatar n tn I have no other symtoms what so ever and I am not taking over the counter pain meds, such as tylanol or motrin because I have heard they can cause rebound headaches. I am just scared that something is seriously wrong but I don't have the money to go and have a million tests done. I would be so grateful for any suggestions as to what may be causing my head to hurt?
1204794 tn?1300704113 I used to have 9 to 16 days of bleeding before letrozole! After being on letrozole, how many days are you bleeding? This is my second time with Letrozole and I had 9 days of bleeding the first time. By Day 5 I'm ready to quit letrozole because it makes my bones a bit achy, my breasts are super tender and less firm, and overall I feel like I constantly have a buzz that you get with one glass of wine.
