Letrozole and fertility

Common Questions and Answers about Letrozole and fertility

1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar f tn My fertility doctor prescribed there letrozole to me to take on day 3-7 of my cycle only. It blocks my estrogen enough to make my ovaries kick into overdrive and produce more/larger eggs. I've heard this is a common practice for fertility clinics.
Avatar f tn But we had been trying for 6 years, and had tried injectibles, clomid, and several other things. SO I really believe that the letrozole was a major contributing factor in us conceiving.
Avatar n tn I hope1125, When I started seeing my fertility doctor the first thig we tried was 3 cycles of iui's with clomid and HCG injections and one cycle with progestrone which were all unsuccessful. He then suggested a laparoscopy. At the same time of the laparoscopy, surgery was performed to remove a slight case of endometriosis and adhesions from both tubes. I had no clue I had either. My doctor told me that I was as good as new and he seen me getting pregnant within the next 6 months......

1640824 tn?1325888415 My fertility doctor put me on 2.5 letrozole days 3-7. Has anyone got pregnant with this medicine? How long did it take?
Avatar f tn Hi there, are you in the UK? I am from England but live in the States now! Interesting to know that Letrozole is not licsensed in the UK! Thanks for replying to my post. I had a rough night last night - just so sad - I can't get my head around not having a sibling for my daughter - it just seems so unfair. I don't know how to deal with the sadness!
Avatar f tn Hi! I am 27 with pcos and my fertility doctor just had me do my first round of letrozole and today I took my first injection of ovidrel! I was wondering what to expect ? Side effects/ success rates? Thanks so much in advance!
Avatar f tn They monitored my follicles and lining. I can just hope and pray for now. And ohhh. With my fertility specialist, they will do an iui twice for a cycle. Which is today and tomorrow. My gynae just did my iui once in a cycle.
Avatar m tn Hi There! On my first round of Letrozole(Femara) and no ovulating is showing. Anyone not ovulate the first month, but then start next couple months, or is this med not like that?? I don't feel the best on it, but will try anything. Had our first little guy a year ago with in vitro. We can't afford that route again, so hoping we are blessed by just doing prescription helpers. But I don't want to keep taking something that makes me feel awful if it isn't going to kick in.
Avatar f tn I have unexplained fertility and started on the works - letrozole pills and Gonal F injectable, then when follicles big enough Ovidrel shot, then IUI then Progesterone pills. This us our first cycle of trying anything and I'm 39. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn i have pcos and have tried clomide before, of which i did not ovulate on it. i have been on letrozole for the last 4months and have just gone to 5mg day 2-6. i have taken letrozole to concieve. On day 14 i had a scan that showed two follicles size16 and 11. could not have a followup scan so had progestrone level checked on D28.(irregular periods) and it was 34.
Avatar f tn Ok, so, doc doubled my Letrozole this cycle and for first time had more than one follicle growing so had hope this time..a little history, I have PCOS and Agressive Endometriosis. 2 failed IUI's so far with letrozole and HCG inj. Before that, Clomid for 9 months with no success. So this time again, follicles on the left stopped growing at 14mm, and the one on the right was 24mm today but was a anuovulated.. Spelling may be wrong.
Avatar n tn I finally broke down after 26 mo of TTC, 8 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs and trigger shots and went to the RE for advice. After AF shows in 2 weeks or so - we will start on letrozole with CD3 blood work and U/S and then do another IUI. If that is unsuccessful - we will do IVF. Has anyone done letrozole vs clomid? side affects? BFPs?
284773 tn?1207757759 This is also used to treat breast cancer and to induce ovulation in fertility patients instead of clomid. I read many scientific articles regarding femara before I decided to try it. It does work and worked for me on the first cycle. I know others who it also worked for. If you are looking for an alternative to clomid it is something you may want to investigate bfore moving on to injectibles. It works in a different way than clomid and therefore may work even if clomid did not.
Avatar n tn Please help me, I dont know what to do. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years and I am afraid that i may have now ruined all my chances.
Avatar f tn AF showed up today, and tomorrow, I need to call the RE and tell him what treatment my husband and I want going forward. We've been trying since February, and I do ovulate, and we've been timing intercourse, but nothing. I know this needs to be our decision, but I would love any input you all wonderful ladies could offer. Basically, my two options are. . . 1.
Avatar f tn I have found a fertility specialist and he has prescribed the following drugs. On days 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 I need to take 1T/day of Letrozole (to stimulate folicle growth). From day 8 onwards 2T/day of Progynova (to ensure thickening of my uteral lining) and from the 3rd day after ovulation, I need to take Duphaston. I can tolerate Letrozole and Duphaston without any problems.
Avatar f tn He tried me on one more round of clomid 150mg to no avail. I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear. I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm. Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI. I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS! It can and it does work!!!
4548024 tn?1590005019 it makes me feel like no one has had any success, with letrozole(femara) and thats the fertility med im taking, i put that comment up 1 month ago, and not one person has resoponded. So does it not work.
148691 tn?1260194903 In March, i got discovered a fibroid in my uterus and was put on lupron to shrink it. In May i went under Lap and found no fibroid and some endo that the RE took care of. Now, after all this time and my husband's good SA results, both have been checked for blood and chromosomal disorders and we are all clear, we still can't get pregnant!! IT IS SO FRUSTRATING! I have not seen my period in forever! I made an appointment for a follow up with RE and we are gonna discuss a 'plan B'.
Avatar n tn So I phoned the fertility clinic and they did E2 and LH. The same day they called me back and my E2 was very high so I had an ultrasound. I had many big cysts on my ovaries and the doctor told me that Clomid is not working for me. So I am suppose to have protected intercourse for the next 2 weeks and he'll call me back for setting another plan. I read so many success stories about Clomid and I feel very discouraged.
1626928 tn?1378850167 5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
Avatar f tn Hi I too had ovary drilling done this month, did you try IUI?
Avatar f tn ll have my second IUI next week and currently taking letrozole (femara) 5mg days 3-7. Hopefully this round works.
1773487 tn?1331540488 It has been approved for treating breast cancer, but it also helps produce and mature follicles. So although not yet technically approved as a fertility drug, it very much works as one; and there's definitely no reason to be scared to take it. Lots of women on here have taken our are currently taking letrozole (same as femara). Best of luck this month!
1287560 tn?1272216521 Thank you for that, my dr hasnt even heard of it, so I am to print a page off web about letrozole and make an apointment to see her and discuss.
Avatar f tn Depends. Some ppl can take clomid for a long time some ppl dont. Clomid can make your lining thin. When you hv thin lining, it is hard to achieve pregnancy. If your period kept getting lighter every mth, talk to your doc. This happened to me. Now doc switched me to letrozole. I was on clomid for 9 cycles.
