Avatar f tn She understands what we tell her, she knows and points where the moon or the stars are, or get her slippers or eat her food. She loves to play with children. Does she just have delayed development? What are the things that I may do at home to improve her verbal development? I don't want to wait till she gets 2 years old and realize it's too late for me to do something about it. I am located in the Philippines and I am not sure that I will find an expert to help her.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar n tn Give him some time to respond to the therapy (at least a few months, I’d imagine) and then perhaps ask for a re-assessment. If his speech development is later assessed to be typical, and he is not showing any other signs of delay, then you can rest easy. If however, he continues to struggle, then you haven’t lost any time in getting him some help and might consider pursuing further services for him. Good luck to you and your family.
Avatar m tn I am worried about will the speech delay cause the delay in all over development of my baby (Nightmare- NEVER want this) or it's just that she will be a late talker?
Avatar f tn The center did an eval of him, but said sometimes the results can be skewed because the test was administered while other children were in the room. They had his emotional development at 11 months and cognitive at 12 months.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn s time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response. If I say "did you play on the swing," she will answer with a "yes" or "no".
Avatar n tn It sounds like your child’s language skills are within normal limits, but I would encourage you to express your concerns to your pediatrician who will be able to do a more complete assessment of your child’s development.
665125 tn?1273023924 in Asperger’s Disorder, there is no delay in early language development. In Autism, there is some delay in language acquisition. Also, delays (in language or social development) must be noted to occur prior to age 3 for a diagnosis of Autism. Other generalizations are often made about the different characteristics and interests of individuals diagnosed with these disorders, but those characteristics are not part of the diagnostic criteria for the disorders.
Avatar n tn My 32 Months old son can be so sweet and loving one minute and then if he is told to do something he does not want to do he Cry, yell, and throw things (his toys) We notice that other people don’t understand him when he is talking, so we get him speech evaluated, and he will start his speech sessions next week He was attached to his nanny so much (to the limit that he would think she’s his mum) and she had to leave couple of months ago to visit her family, and since then I notice that he would a
Avatar f tn Impaired Communication - noticeable delay or absence of spoken language; or if speech is present, atypical use of language (such stereotyped or scripted speech), impaired comprehension, and/or infrequent inititaion of speech 2. Avatar n tn At his 2 yr wellness check my ped. referred him to early intervention for speech delay. His expressive speech was found to be 50% delayed. It was also noted that he had a short attention span, high activity level, and was "sensory seeking". At the time I was working full-time and his behavior was a little off. He would jump on things, get incredibly frustrated, have tantrums, and hit me.
Avatar f tn he is 28 months and he has languagedelay development, after i saw a doctor he said that he has ADHD he saw him for 3, he recommended to us the speech therapy daily, after we started the speech therapy , he said that he should start to be under medication (Risperdal) my question is : is it that common to put a child that young under medication, or to diagnose him as ADHD , i am living in medial east.
Avatar f tn , a big part of the question they had was about delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development as well as definitions and some explanations of potential speech and language developmental problems and what to do about them.
Avatar m tn Our 2yr 10 mon old son has not developed any speech. He doesn’t understand any instruction. He doesn’t respond to his name most of the times. He can express very limited needs nonverbally (take someone by hand and show water or cookies). He doesn’t understand pointing at things. He throws violent tantrums and bangs his head without any apparent reason. He spends most of his time running around or climbing when he has a good mood. He doesn’t have any interest in nutritious food.
304970 tn?1331425994 but an evaluation from a professional can tell you exactly what how his language development is different than other children his age, and whether he would benefit from therapy to catch up. It is much better to get "unnecessary" early intervention than to miss out on it when it was really needed, KWIM?
Avatar f tn My little boy is 2 1-2 yrs old. He does not speak , only says dada, no, dat and other little babbles. I'm so worried and concerned for his development . He gets upset very easily and will hit or bite at anyone if something doesn't go his way. He points to some things he wants ; will use some gestures to let you know what he wants. For the most part he is happy , hugs and loves to giggle , he gives kisses to mommy and daddy.
Avatar n tn If he has typical speech development then that would usually rule out autism, but might mean Aspergers. But those with Aspergers although their speech is considered 'normal' may still have problems processing language, or may have literal interpretation of language. They can sometimes have a strange tone of voice or emphasis the wrong part of words, or they may have an accent.
