Common Questions and Answers about Laser surgery in michigan

Avatar f tn I am conimplating having it done by Dr. Wolf in Michigan, but I am just looking for some feedback from patients who had had the surgery. I am hoping it will help, as I have passed 6 stones in the past couple of weeks, I constantly have flank pain and UTI's. I have 2 boys (6 yr old and a 2 yr old). My six year old asked when I would be able to play again cause I am always sick. I spend most of my time alone crying because I don't want my family, friends and co-workers to think I am a baby.
Avatar f tn I'm having surgery on Dec 16. He said he'd go in with a laser and tru to remove the stones and some of the plaque in my left kidney. He's not doing the right one because the ct didn't show stones. Though the right kidney never stops hurting. I'm a bit frustrated about that. I asked him if the ct showed sponge kidneys and he said it was inconclusive but the treatment is the same. Relieve pain and then work metabolically reduce the number of stones i get.
Avatar f tn intermediate vision or distance vision? 6. Do you have any explant len eye doctor recommendation in Michigan? Or other state? 7. Seems from other articles, intermediate vision=distance vision+1, is that right? I really appreciate your precious time any generous help!

Avatar m tn Ari H, can you share the name of the clinic in Israel? Does the clinic use laser assisted surgery? Have they had much experience with the Symfony? Did you consider micro monovision for the non dominant eye to help with near vision?
Avatar n tn I'd eliminate anyone who didn't also specialize in refractive surgery (i.e., laser vision correction). Ask how many multifocals they have implanted. What are their recommendations for you? Other eye care professionals (optometrists and ophthalmologists) in the community are often savvy about who's good and who isn't. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn Im71 with 50 years of stones .multiple laser lithotripsy surgeries. Passed as many as 9 at one time. Having surgery 1/21/12 fr stones stuck on both sides.
Avatar f tn I am a bit down because he basically said that he didnt advise any surgery. He said that surgery in the armpit is very tricky due to all of the nerves twisting in and around the tissues. he warns me that there is a high possibility of scarring, the area filling up with fluids longterm and a condition where the arms swell up? (somethign to do with lymphod.. ). He said he is not refusing but I should think about this very thoroughly and try to research the success rate of the procedure.
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar m tn This stuff is straight out of Star Trek. In what could turn into one of the most revolutionary advances in medical history, scientists are developing a way to "freeze" patients during surgery. This cutting-edge technique involves quickly replacing all the blood in a trauma victim's body with a cold saline solution that rapidly brings the temperature down from the normal 98.6 degrees to 50 degrees, well past the point of extreme hypothermia.
Avatar n tn I have glaucoma, have had Lazar and Cataract surgery on both eyes. Have passed Michigan Secretary of State drivers eye test. Scored 132 hits in 3 minutes on a Weston Light Board. However, i have taken at least 8 Goldman field vision tests. During the Goldman test i cannot see the target light and the whole interior area is a hazy tan, dark gray fog or pitch black. At one session i tried to tough out the full time required, developed shaking convulsions.
Avatar f tn My bro-law had the Crystalens implants for his cataract surgery last year in Michigan. Cost him about $5K out of pocket, but he loves them and would do it again in a heartbeat. His only problem was the cataracts, so I can't comment on the vitrectomy pros/cons. Good luck, and keep us informed on your decision.
Avatar f tn It is very rare to put in a scleral buckle for just a retinal tear. Usually, it is treated with laser or cryo. A horseshoe tear is treated immediately. Treatment is usually not needed if the a detachment does not occur within three months. The indication for treatment is an acute symptomatic retinal tear. You need to see your doctor regarding the vision in the right eye. Also, Google treatment of horseshoe tears and read about the indication for treatment. Dr. O.
599170 tn?1300977493 Lucky for me I at least have the VA to help covering my meds but All I know is that I am trying to get the VA to pay for Laser surgery at the Laser Spine Institute. Look them up, Only bad thing is it costs 20k and not alot of us have all that kind of money. I find my self in traction and laying on ice 5-6 times a day with methadone, diazapam, fish oils, joint stuff....I'm sure youve tried all that stuff. It is really hard to enjoy life at the age of 40.
Avatar n tn There's a lot of good information already posted. Suggest you avoid surgery unless you have best corrected vision worse than 20/40 or so. There are definitely no guarantees and usually we don't get to know how patients are going to do until 6-9 months post-op (at which time they usually need cataract surgery also due to the fact that the vitrectomy speeds up the cataract development.
Avatar f tn in some cases intraocular injections, laser surgery, or an operation may be used to reduce the macular edema and stabilize or improve vision. In severe CRVO, laser surgery is used to prevent or treat the abnormal blood vessel growth that can lead to glaucoma or bleeding, in some cases, surgery may be necessary." I wish you luck.
Avatar n tn It's my understanding that iseikonic glasses work by adjusting the lens thickness and base curve in order to equalize the image size in each eye, while retaining the Rx. In this regard, it's been reported that iseikonic glasses can provide greater visual comfort than contact lens wear. When I was looking into possible solutions to my own situation, I had several phone conversations with staff at the Aniseikonia Service at the Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Avatar f tn for me and a few of us, I expected the surgery to get rid off all my stones. In truth it helped my stone burden but many of our calcification are deep down in the tubes of our kidneys and can't be reached. So know this is a procedure is mainly for pain. Secondly the average time the surgery lasts is about 2 years then it can be repeated if if it makes a significant change in your pain levels. I am not sorry I had the surgery even though it did not do ALL I had hoped....
Avatar f tn Any surgery is scary and you need to find the best neurosurgeon with LOTS of experience helping TN patients. You need to ask the tough questions -- what's the best and the worst scenario? What are the side effects? How many TN procedures has this surgeon performed? MRIs are notorious for not showing blood vessels, but Dr. Janeta (Pittsburgh) and Dr. Casey (Michigan) both experts -- have stated that invariably they find a blood vessel or vein when they perform an MVD.
Avatar f tn I have an appontment with another Urologist in Toronro in October, and I am now going to find someone to do surgery on my kidneys. I also have an appointment with Dr. Wolf in Michigan and if I can nto find anyone in Canada to do this surgery then I will pay whatever I have to and get it done in the US. I can not stand being on pain meds all the time, but when I am not on them I am in too much pain to focus on anything. I continue to tell my family that I am okay, but I am not okay.
Avatar n tn It is another specter in need of a stake to the heart, in my opinion. Richard A. Santucci Department of Urology Wayne State University School of Medicine Detroit, Michigan THE JOURNAL OF UROLOGY® Copyright © 2007 by AMERICAN UROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION Vol.
Avatar m tn With eyes known to be prone to detachment, the risks of redetachment will be greater, but with laser or cryo scarring holding the retina in place, the chances are lower that a redetachment will occur than it would be without. However, untreated cataracts have nearly a 100% chance of eventual blindness.
Avatar m tn I seem to be passing stones 5-8 times a year with various sizes. I also am in pain /discomfort at least 75% of the time. Is this normal? my doctor doesn't seem to concerned.
Avatar n tn I have consulted about five major eye hospitals in India, seven university hospitals in USA, two in UK, three in Germany and two in Australia. Every one said I have no hope. One of my friends from US suggested I consult one specific Ayurvedic Eye Hospital in India mentioning several patients with problem declared not curable were corrected by that hospital and they may have some thing for me. I visited them and found that these people know what they are doing.
489228 tn?1291535054 I am now 98% stone free and I have had no stent and very little pain or passing of stone fragments! This is procedure is done by Dr. Wolf at the university of Michigan, it is called laser lithotripicy of papilary calcifications. Using a holmium laser they put a small hole over each of my collecting ducts. They blasted 9 out of 9 stone pockets in the right kidney and 9 out of 11 in the left, the 2 they left very mild and more risk to go after then to leave!
Avatar n tn I just recently found this articlebelow! I am to have the surgery done on Aug. 4th for chronic kidney pain with no stones in the ureter! Afterward I will post more info. on the procedure and how it works to solve this! Shelly Urology. 2006 Apr;67(4):683-7. Epub 2006 Mar 29. 20869248 tn?1555089844 Yes, I'm in Michigan near all those facilities. Before the 1st surgery, the scans showed I had irregular astigmatism, at the slit lamp, EBMD was also noted. After the 1st standard IOL was in, the macular was clear. I had cornea edemia for 2 weeks. Another phase was then mentioned "surprise astigmatism". I was told to use sodium chloride ointment 5% at night for the edemia. July I was referred to another dr for RK to see if that would help. I was told, no. So back I went to 1st Dr.
Avatar f tn Hope that gives your family some hope! They where here in Michigan and St Johns NICU is one of the best in the country.
1408746 tn?1283678948 I just recently had a major surgery for something called Nutcracker Syndrome. This Syndrome results most commonly from the compression of the left renal vein between the abdominal aorta (AA) and superior mesenteric artery (SMA), although other variants exist.[1][2] The name derives from the fact that, in the sagittal view, the SMA and AA (with some imagination) appear to be a nutcracker crushing a nut (the renal vein).
