Avatar n tn I've also got a positive gallbladder surgery story. I had mine taken out in 1998 and had no problems in my recovery from my surgery. I had it done as a lap chole (i.e. laproscopically) and although it was meant to be an outpt procedure (i.e. home the same day) that didn't work for me. I was just far too nauseous and sick to even move that day. Just went home the next day and everything was fine. Took about a week to recover, but I was back at work half-days in about three days post-surgery.
163557 tn?1244116542 So, Brady's eyes are still getting worse...even after the laser surgery. The right eye is worse than the left, but the left eye isn't too far behind and could be headed in the same direction. There is hemmorhaging in both eyes that's right where the central vision is. This means, if the retina detaches, that's his central vision..gone. The hemmorhaging causes scar tissue which causes retinal detachment.
163557 tn?1244116542 There's a chance the surgery won't work and he'd have to go get another surgery in Houston. He is scheduled for this morning at 10 am...they will do it at the hospital. Please pray that it won't make his vision perfect. I think they have to actually destroy the rest of his retina that hasn't developed. I will have more details later. I'm just asking for prayers now because I KNOW the power of prayer. Thanks again!!

Avatar m tn I had a cataract in one eye only but I chose to have cataract surgery in both my eyes. My post-surgery distance vision in the eye without the cataract is at least as good as my best-correct vision was before surgery. I've never had a problem with my IOLs.
Avatar m tn I had vitrectomy before for retinal detachment, however, as the bubble went down, I was able to see clear on top of it, also, immediately the day after the RD surgery, even with the bubble in full shape, I was able to count finger (in fact, i could see the tiny dust particles on my glasses very clearly). I dont know what happens this time. Thank you very much for any opinions.

Avatar n tn I live in DC. Both Neuro and spine surgeons recommeded Cervical disc surgery. So I might have the surgery in about a month or two. Someone, please let me know the longterm impact of the surgery. Please post any more info, I may need to know.
Avatar f tn I am a bit down because he basically said that he didnt advise any surgery. He said that surgery in the armpit is very tricky due to all of the nerves twisting in and around the tissues. he warns me that there is a high possibility of scarring, the area filling up with fluids longterm and a condition where the arms swell up? (somethign to do with lymphod.. ). He said he is not refusing but I should think about this very thoroughly and try to research the success rate of the procedure.

Avatar n tn That price is very low. Prices seem to very drastically by region from what I'd seen before. I don't have a link offhand showing that well, but out of curiosity, here is one source that seems credible for national averages: "In 2015, the average cost of cataract surgery with a standard IOL performed in the United States for someone without Medicare or private health insurance was $3,542 per eye. ...

Avatar n tn I have seen FOUR eye doctors (2 in South Carolina and 2 in Houston (one a specialist). All of my tests (Glaucoma, field, air-pressure) all are normal. One doctor made a joke that was not funny. He said, "Don't worry about it, you're not supposed to see in the dark anyway". This effects my driving at night and I have to feel my way around my home if walking short distances in dark or even in a dimly lit room.
1416390 tn?1333905204 However, he gave me a list of hospitals that do the surgery to research this week- so in my mind that is not a good sign- Houston, Philly, Miami, etc. If I do have TTTS- they do laser surgery on the placenta- the vessels- which also has it's own list of scary stats- cerebal palsey and survival rates. On a positive note- they are measuring the same- so that is a good thing. I can't do anything but cry right now. I am so afraid. I can not kiss my dh without crying.
Avatar f tn I had RK about 30 years ago and Lasik 15 years ago. I am now 72 and have been told I have moderate cataracts; right eye worse. I can function relatively well; have had glasses now for years. I have records before/post Lasik. I have consulted two ophthalmologists; neither wants to consult records. When I expressed concern about selecting IOL, the first discounted my questions and the second said, "Don't overthink the problem; I would suggest making the IOL about 1 diopter myopic.
4760166 tn?1398360913 Before my first decompression surgery in 2013 ... I literally had no memory of headache free days. None. Apparently I was even a toddler that hit her head before I could explain that my head hurt. So I had a pretty extensive and traumatic workup as a toddler at Texas children's. The only thing they found was retinopathy. I had some laser treatments for blood vessel overgrowth in my retina ... every treatment just made them come back worse, so we stopped.
Avatar n tn I had Alcon toric IOL implanted after cataract surgery on May 15, 2008. I am seeing star bursts and do not have clear vision. Procedure was done by a reputable surgeon in Houston, TX. I am very frustrated about this. Dr. says it can be corrected with Lasix but I am not inclined to do it. I have worn glasses since I was seven and am now a senior citizen. Want a second opinion but not sure where to turn. Hope your surgery went well.

Avatar n tn Then she went to see a thirds specialist who suggested that she should have surgery for both the cataracts and glaucoma together, because in his opinion, the fluid pressure raises after a cataracts operation and also there is a high risk that debris can block the drainage channels. Both felt that in her case the proposed laser surgery would be a waste of money and time. She is now completely at a loss. Any suggestions most welcome and many thanks.
Avatar m tn I understand MD are busy, but I am going to have to live with this IOL for the rest of my life. So I do want to seek second opinion. Any recommendation in Houston, TX? Or how to find out which surgeon has done alot of Crystalens and their success rate?

Avatar m tn Thank you for your comments. Concerning Lattice, the retinal specialist I saw in Houston on May 30 said in his report "Temporally, in the right eye there were a few chorioretinal scars, but there was no evidence of Lattice degeneration or any precursor lesions to retinal detachment in this eye. In the left eye, he had a tilting of the optic nerve and no other pathology... he does not require any precataract surgery prophylactic laser" I am sorry to hear about your eye issues.
