Common Questions and Answers about Laser surgery glaucoma

laser

Avatar m tn optholomogist have said the Laser surgery has worked and angles are no longer as narrow and pressure has dropped to 10..Does this sort of laser stop an Acute angle atack?.
Avatar f tn Dear tina287, Laser surgery to create a tiny hole in the iris is a rapid procedure which may prevent an attack of narrow angle glaucoma. Sometimes, the shape of one’s eye, makes them susceptible to an attack of narrow angle glaucoma despite normal vision and pressure presently. I would recommend that you speak with your eyeMD about why a laser iridotomy was recommended. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your prompt response. My dad has been taking Flomax for a few years. His ophthamologist told him that he should do the Laser PI before the cataract surgery. We were very worried as we don't want to have unnecessary complication from the PI sine his eye pressure is normal and the PI was just for prevention. Do you think we should seek another specialist? We live in Toronto.
Avatar n tn I have had a few patients with this exact situation with Sturge-Weber Syndrome and glaucoma and the glaucoma can be very difficult to control. One patient had to have a trabeculectomy surgery at Will's Eye Hospital and did extremely well. There is no effective way to just make the blood vessels go away but there are glaucoma surgeries (and of course drops and laser treatments) to help control the pressure.
Avatar f tn I had laser surgery for narrow angle glaucoma a few years ago. I am wondering if it is okay for me to take a mild sleeping aid, and pain medications.

Avatar n tn I have been told I have 'narrow angles'. Although my 'pressure' (for glaucoma) is VERY GOOD, better then average, exceptionally low and good. I am farsighted, probably always have been based on what I read, but have only become aware of it the past few years.
Avatar m tn In very severe cases glaucoma surgery is sometimes done. This is high risk surgery that is not meant to improve the vision but to try and prevent the eye from going blind. It sounds as if your mother is in the worse 1-2% of glaucoma cases and ultra difficult to try and stop the progression of the glaucoma. If you would feel better you can get a third opinion from an Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in glaucoma. You can find one near you at www.aao.
Avatar f tn I have the white line across my eye, when outside, next to a window, driving during daylight or any other natural light situations. I had laser surgery for narrow angle glaucoma in April 2012. I don't think it is a floater. The same white line pops up when I'm in natural light and stays there. It does move with every movement of my eyelid. As I raise my eyelid it raises up. This is causing alot of difficulty in my vision. If you have any suggestions, please reply. I was told, by my Dr.
Avatar m tn 1. what drops were you taking before your laser surgery (SLT=selective laser trabeculectomy)? 2. I suspect, but cannot tell you for certain, that your Eye MD ophthalmologist was talking about the cup/disk ratio and probably means .2 to .4. the C/D ratio is notoriously inaccurate in assessing. So there must have been some objective damage that your glaucoma was progressing such as worsening of visual field test or thinning of the nerve fiber layer (NFL) on OCT test.
Avatar f tn had me make an appt. for next year, but I am now wondering if I should have laser surgery. Do narrowed angles always result in glaucoma?
Avatar m tn Pressures were 50 and 52 (great story on how I found out). Laser surgery was done but the Eye Dr. did not followup like I have now found out he should have. 2nd Laser surgery was done a month ago. Pressures have come down, but now to where they would like them to be. So they want me to have the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Surgery done. Dr. John Brown is my Dr. at the Minnesota VA Hospital. I have tunnel vision (90% of vision is gone) in the left eye that they want to place the shunt in.
Avatar m tn PLUS when cataract surgery is done on difficult to control glaucoma patients now a variety of MIGS (micro invasive glaucoma surgery) is now available. Moreover things will only improve over time. I also failed to mention we use a lot of laser treatment for glaucoma now (ALT or SLT).
Avatar m tn went down to normal at15?.HAve been told will need laser treatment for the Glaucoma. Was told no link with the operation(it went well) and would have got the glacaoma anyway. is this true?
Avatar m tn Is there any way effects from the 40 year old injury (and now controlled glaucoma) in the right eye would affect cataract surgery in that eye? Could it make the tissues holding the IOL in place unstable causing possible later dislocation or rotation (for a toric IOL)? Could it limit the type of IOL, use of astigmatism reduction techniques (LRI,AK), etc.?
Avatar f tn Additional therapy includes laser treatment and for the most severe glaucoma surgery hopefully using the new MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery) techniques.
Avatar f tn Do I really need laser surgery now ? I happened to read laser iridotomy can cause cataract ,among other things.
Avatar m tn thanks one last question, He said the cataracts started around 6 months ago, that was only a few months after l had SLT laser for glaucoma, is there any chance the SLT laser caused the cataracts or would that be not possible
Avatar n tn Some of these being eyedrops, medication and laser surgery. I am interested in the laser surgery because it supposedly unclogs the mechanism (not sure what its called) that carries fluid out of the eye, thus lowering the pressure. What do you find most effective?
Avatar m tn The closest thing I found to what my wife said she read was that chemical burns can damage Limbal Stem cells and cause vision loss. My current doctor did tell us that all the surgery and laser surgery on my eyes is probibly responsible for most of the lost visual acuity--maybe thats what he meant. He onlt said I was having a toxic reaction to the drops and not that they do or did any damage .
Avatar n tn I'm 62, had open angle glaucoma since ..11 yrs ago, I have Normal Tensio Gla. so I'm sure I had it before ..as when -I would go get glasses for driving, my pressure was always normal. ..but all the time I was loosing vision (per visual field test). In 2000 had trab by Dr James Tsai..now at Yale..worked fine..just had laser 'hole' made in Iris of my eye..because the cataracts got swollen and have angle closure gla. now... I'm just wondering what's next..
