Avatar m tn I'm looking for an effective skin lightening or bleaching product that I can use at home (and that isn't too expensive). Many of these products advertise that they are for removing age spots. Will these work for me? Or does anyone have a good home remedy type solution to this? Thoughts on any products you have used would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn I've heard that hydroquinone is dangerous, and I've heard of arbutin, kojic acid, and many other more natural ingredients, pills, phenol peels, laser treatments, whatever. My desire is to have a nice light golden skin tone like Rihanna, Beyonce, etc (instead of darker brown with golden/yellow undertones, like I am now). Thanks for any help!
Avatar f tn Hi, Even though laser treatment is safe, some complications may occur. This includes skin lightening or depigmentation, which is usually temporary and usually resolves within 10-14 weeks; skin darkening or hyperpigmentation, which may also fade and recovers; infections: rough skin texture, allergic reactions, or sun burn effect. For hyperpigmentation, a bleaching agent has to be used to erase the dark color.
Avatar n tn But if they persist, various skin creams like hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. But they should be used after consulting a dermatologist. If it still persists then you can go in for laser treatment, Chemical peeling or microdermabrasion. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Are there other creams using a different agent with less or no safety concern?I have a medium/tan skin tone; any thoughts on why I got PIH ? Can over-zealous laser treatment cause it?
Avatar f tn however, the skin on the upper lip is far too sensitive for laser hair removal, whatever your skin tone. I have spent a fortune on creams such as Clinique's dark spot corrector with little effect. The issue is that the damage caused by the laser is so deep no topical solution is effective. I fear that the hyperpigmention will worsen over time, which terrifies me as the situation is already distressing enough.
Avatar m tn What kind of treatment would be the best to get the rid of acne, scars and bumps and get back my normal glans. Surgery to install some new skin or laser treatment? Thank you in advance. Waiting for the kind reply.
Avatar m tn People with darker complexions are more prone to this condition than people with lighter skin. Treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn Both hyper pigmentation and hypo pigmentation lightening of the skin can occur with laser treatments. To help prevent this, you should avoid direct exposure to sunlight for a couple of weeks after a laser treatment.
Avatar f tn Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The lightening of skin due to many years of bleach usage can be due to post inflammatory hypopigmentation. However it has to be differentiated from vitiligo which is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. If it is post inflammatory hypopigmentation then with sun exposure the white areas should eventually repigment but treatment of vitiligo is specific.
Avatar m tn Hello, The Mayo Clinic reports there have been reports of skin discoloration of either lightening or darkening, and facial redness after use of Accutane , but the incidence of occurrence of these side effects is unknown. What you are having are side effects of the drug Accutane and when you are taking Accutane, you should avoid going out in the sun.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm considering treatment for freckles on my face and have a few questions: 1) Should I stay away from lightening products that contain Hydroquinone or any derivative of it such as bearberry and/or kojic acid? I've read many cancer concerns. 2) Do you have any lightening products that you can recommend to safely lighten the skin? Like Retin-A? 3) Is their any harm in using a combination of lightening products with self tanners containing DHA?
Avatar n tn Ive been to like skin clinics and gthey charge like upto 3k fr the treatment but yet its not a gaurantee to get rid off it as its a laser treatment. The cons are that i could get burns and the skin colour could go darker or i may have pale marks on my legs after the treatment. Therefore i never went for the treatment. I am loking for a treatment which is more effective and does not have any side effects. I saw the forums posted and was woundering if someone could guide me the right way.

Avatar n tn About 10 days ago I had 2 hyperpigmented spots removed by laser treatment. I have noticed that a brown circling has formed around the part where the skin has not grown back. Is this normal in the healing process for skin regeneration? I am concerned because I have been on accutane for about 3.5 months, and I am wondering if this may be causing the hyperpigmentation in the skin. Thank You.
Avatar n tn so far I've found out that skin lightening creams can be a solution, and I was wondering if loreal skin lightening cream works? Or maybe you can suggest some other products that do work.
Avatar n tn I had one laser treatment but it was a freebie and did nothing (SmartXide Dot laser) I've done all this for well over a year and NOTHING has improved. I look like a 40-year-old with an 80-year-old's arms. I live in Canada, so have more opportunity to cover my arms than someone living in Florida and cover them I do. I am embarrassed by them. I feel shocked when I look in the mirror. So ladies, I empathize fully. If I find a solution, I will post for you all.

Avatar n tn By doing this it speeds skin turnover and pigment is lost more quickly. Laser treatment can be used for the treatment of skin pigmentation yet leave normal skin intact. ‘Selective photothermolysis’ is a term that describes how pigmentation ‘selectively’ takes up the energy given out from the laser in preference to that of the normal skin. This allows the laser to selectively disrupt the pigment with minimal or no damage to surrounding skin. ref:http://www.sesderma.co.uk/pigmentation.
Avatar n tn It's possible that skin lightening creams will help, though it's not likely. I suggest consulting a skin doctor, who may judge them worth a try. Laser treatment may be a good option, and given their small size would not be very costly. Either way, treating them is worth looking into. Best. Dr.

Avatar f tn Hi, This could be a part of the eczema which is affecting her liops or it could be a type of dermatitis which is causing the discoloration. There are skin lightening agents available but the cannot be used on the lips as some of them can cause irritation and redness as side effects. Laser could be an possible treatment, but you will have to get her examined by a dermatologist to see what best can be done. Lemon juice diluted is a mild bleaching agent and can be tried as a home remedy.
Avatar m tn We usually term it as dyschromia which is an alteration of the color of the skin and it can be hyperchromia or hypochromia. Treating skin lightening conditions is a challenge for the patient as well as clinician. First of all, covering the area with makeup and exposure to the sun are there as treatment options but exposure to sun is accompanied with exposure to undesirable UV rays as well. Moreover these are temporary methods.
