In IPL the intense light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted into heat. This heat loosens the hair and prevents further new hair growth. This affects the 30% of hair in the anagen or growing stage. It also minimizes the trauma to the skin. However, this treatment should not be used in females who are pregnant as well as those who get epileptic fits.
Avatar n tn There are several different light-based systems that can help blood vessels. Many are lasers. The IPL produces light that isn't laser light. Both kinds work well. The pulsed dye laser your doctor wants to use is fine for what you have. I'm not sure why your doctor wants you to not have facials or microdermabrasion. You might ask him. These esthetic procedures help smooth the face a bit, but don't change the size of the pores. Nothing really does that. Best. Dr.
Avatar f tn I would like to ask if IPL is dangerous in the long run? Perhaps the laser has been proven to be ok but the if IPL are killing the hair roots, would it cause harm in the long run? Such as blocked sweat glands etc? Please forgive my ignorance but I just want to be safe and not regret anything later on. Thanks very much.
Avatar f tn The next day, my face was covered in dark pigmentations. Today my skin began peeling off and the skin left behind is red, irritated and a little raw looking. I'm worried these red blotches will leave a scar. What do you think? Is this normal? What can I do to fix it? Thanks, helplessly lasered!
Avatar f tn I would strongly suggest you google "IPL and Laser Damage Support". Then read all about what lasers have done to others. Not just immediate damage, but 1-3 yrs down the road as well. You'll need to start looking for answers to heal the dermis, epidermis and deeper damage now, so that you may stave off any damage that could 'pop' up years after a laser treatment.
Avatar f tn I had IPL 6 weeks ago and although I wasn't aware of blistering, I had hundreds of little nicks and surface abrasions on the skin and was swollen and very red for 4.5 weeks. I peeled quite heavily from day 10-14. I went back to the original derm who did the treatment after this, who said that I had developed seb derm and gave me cream for it.

Avatar n tn I am interested in the opinion of others on the Ruby laser technique to remove or reduce freckles. I have very fair skin and over my 4 decades have managed to accumulate freckles on my face, chest, arms, back and legs. Is ruby laser an effective technique at minimising/removing freckles and is it safe. What are the risks? How does it compare with IPL therapy for efficacy and safety.
Avatar m tn I have a scar on my cheek roughly one inch long as a result of being struck by a glass in May of 2009 (about 8 months ago). It's much darker than the rest of my skin, sort of a deep red or maybe brownish, and I've been trying to find a way to lighten it as much as possible. I've been seeing a local dermatologist and he has administered a treatment called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). I've had four of these treatments now but the discoloration doesn't seem to have improved that much.
Avatar n tn is there anything I can do for the shallowness? Topical creams, microdermabrasion, laser? I just want my skin to be clear and smooth! Please help.
Avatar n tn The metrogel seems to burn my skin. Does laser work for Rosacea? It is $1,800 for the treatment. I am 54 years old and recently had my thyroid removed due to cancer. Could my Synthroid meds be aggravating this condition. Could these blisters be facial herpes, shingles. I have had this for about 6 months. I can't get into a dermatologist until September. Help!
Avatar f tn More recently pulsed dye laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment are also used. Avatar f tn Frankly cancer and chemo did much more damage to my skin than IPL ever could have. I'd be scheduling appts now if I could afford!
Avatar f tn It can be due to sun exposure and hormonal factors and treatment consists of sun protection, using non perfumed soaps and cosmetics, hydroquinone, use of alpha hydroxy-acids and tretinoin and pulsed dye laser (PDL) and intense pulsed light (IPL). My sincere advice is to get the diagnosis confirmed from a dermatologist. Avatar n tn I am left to conclude that somehow the mole was burned by the laser, and is subsequently peeling (thereby missing skin and pigment). Currently, I do not have full health care coverage (only catastrophic insurance) so it is not feasible for me to go see a dermatologist. I called the laser treatment center who told me that the laser light probably traveled to the mole area.
Avatar f tn He's been helping patient who suffering from LASER/IPL SKIN DAMAGE. He himself suffered from severe acne. I'm not trying to sell anything nor I work with him. But I read everything he wrote and everything seem to make so much sense to me. The Dr who I'm seeing for my laser treatment don't recommend obagi or HQ but he put me on HQ in conjunction of the procedure?!

Avatar n tn Hello. About 2 years ago I had laser hair removal with IPL (Intense pulsed light) on my lower back and it caused brown marks. The clinic that I used prescribed a special cream made up of retinoic acid (0.025%), hydroquinone 3% in Eumovate cream. I was told to apply this cream twice a day for 7 days ONLY and they said it would expire. However I used it for longer and started to notice the area get red and irritated..however I kept using it for a couple of days after.
Avatar f tn Hi, 'Laser treatment for melasma - A Wood's lamp test should be used to determine whether the melasma is epidermal or dermal. If the melasma is dermal, laser (or "IPL") will acually DARKEN and worsen the appearance of the spots. Dermal melasma is generally unresponsive to most treaments, and has only been found to lighten with products containing mandelic acid. In all treatments for melasma the effects are gradual and a strict avoidance of sunlight is required.
Avatar m tn On January 4 2011 I had an IPL laser treatment done under my eyes to help reduce dark circles, the skin is very thin due to damage from sun exposure. The next day, my left eye started twitching on the bottom corner lid of the eye near the nose. I ignored it and attributed it to stress, but after a month with no let up I called my dermatologist and was assured these non ablative lasers cannot penetrate deeply enough to cause any nerve damage. So I let it go.
Avatar n tn I agree that complacency and indifference is a big problem in the medical field, I just think you may have an exaggerated sense of that happening in this case. I'm sure there must be a lot of information about laser skin treatments on the Internet, though, honestly, most of what I found was talking about reducing wrinkles and scarring, not so much about something like reducing redness, though I have seen things like "Remove brown spots and splotchy skin color" mentioned.

Avatar f tn my spots stoped but discolorations of the skin never disapear. last mounth my doctor recommanded to do IPL in the center of the laser. Not also they didn't disaoear, but also they are increasing. Now it isn't important for me to disapear of age spot, I've just wanted not to be red, because the redness is mor than their place.(my face looks as if I go to sking) todays I use Acnalen 0.1% and ACNE derm(Azelaic acid 20%).These are cream for decreasing redness. Are these OK for my skin?
