Common Questions and Answers about Laser scar pigment

Avatar m tn The first opthamologist said that he thinks it might be a herpes viral infection, whereas the 2nd opthamologist said that he thinks he can see rust in my corneal scar, well he said it's either rust or pigment. At this time currently it feels like there is a localised pressure behind the scar as if my eye is trying to push something out. Anyhow, I don't mean to deviate on the story too much.....
Avatar n tn Just wondered if I could get your advise on what would be the most advanced laser treatment/ dermabrasion for a facial scar looking irregular (not raised) on my chin, Also, I have a small scar (looking like a small scratch left upper lip) and a tiny lump on my lip as a result of a bike fall. My questions: What is the most recommended type of laser/ dermabrasion treatment to reduce facial scars on the chin?

Avatar n tn I have been using it for about a month and a half and not sure if I am seeing the desired results. I know I can't have laser treatment done to the scar because of the tattoo over it. Would microderm abrasion treatments help to smooth the skin texture? I am having other parts of the tattoo touched up and if the microderm affects the current is ok, because I can have that fixed by my artist. In time will the scars flatten to the level of the surround skin?
Avatar n tn This can be because of when irritation and inflammation has subsided, pigment may have been lost from the skin if the pigment-containing cells (melanocytes) are damaged or destroyed. Although this type of skin problem is very difficult to treat, but you can try Elidel cream or Protropic ointment on these hypopigmented areas. But use them after a dermatologist’s guidance. If the symptoms still persist then you can talk to your dermatologist about laser-assisted chemabrasion(LACA).
Avatar n tn Lasers target pigment. Up to now, lasers which target hair shaft pigment are too strong for dark skin, and can blister or scar it. This may change with new technology. Dr.
Avatar n tn Hello, It seems that your daughter is having recurrent nevus. It is the reappearance of pigment in a scar following surgical removal of a mole. In such cases, laser treatment is quite useful. Hope it helps .Take care and please do keep us posted in case you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn and it scabbed like crazy and the scab fell off and it a lighter pigment and red. Now im afraid im gonna get a very obvious scar from something that was my doctors error...I'm going to see him in 3 days and talk to him about it... Should I be worried? Are there any scar creams I should use to prevent to scar tissue on my penis? I really really dont want a scar on it, If i end up with one im gonna punch my doctor int he face for screwing up, honestly.
Avatar f tn If the lasers target melanin/pigment in the hair, then the same laser ends up targeting the melanin in the skin! How could it not? How could the laser possibly differentiate between the two? What happens is that as the melanin in the hair is targeted and transferred to heat, it ”zaps” and kills the hair from the follicle. But when the same laser is also absorbed by the melanin in the skin, it turns the surrounding skin darker.
Avatar m tn i've done alot of research on acne scar removal. I have darker skin, thus alot of the options are ruled out since they could cause pigment damage and then i would be no faurther ahead. I was just wondering what other people used, such as laser, dermabrasion, injections, peels.. and how it worked for them and how much it costed. Some one told me fraxel laser is the better for holes and icepick like scars, but i havent seen any great reviews on it. What have you used and was it worth it..
Avatar m tn The resulting scar tissue is a similar consistency to the surrounding normal tissue, except that it is whiter than the surrounding skin and it contains no pigment. The scar is about a half inch wide near the glans, triangular in shape, and about an inch-and-a-half long. The normal skin is fair. Over the years, brown spots began appearing on the normal skin at the margin formed by the scar. There are about ten spots now. The largest spot is about one-quarter inch in diameter.
Avatar f tn Surgical resection is another method. This will completely remove pigment that is excised, but will leave some type of scar.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a chickenpox scar on my nose since i was 10, I'm 23 now. Been to a skin clinic to do something about the scar, it appears greyish black, done a biopsy test, and the hyperpigmentation is deep within the dermis. I have done 2 times of laser on it and applied hydroquinone for about a month. But it still remains unchanged, are there any other options?
863649 tn?1239155917 Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough, but it can be due to hyperpigmentation of the skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. The treatment for includes various skin creams like hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment.Apply hydroquinone cream on this scar and it should go away in a few days to months.
Avatar f tn I misread your last question. If you had laser the laser makes scar and the scar is used to seal hole so spontaneous healing is not needed. An operculated retinal tear means there IS retinal detachment by definition. Usually it is associated with a horseshoe shaped tear. For no traction to be present you would have to have a round hole with a ‘free floating’ operculum NOT one attached like a ‘lid’ to the tear.
Avatar n tn The Dermatorlogist does not reccommend laser treatment as this can bring on pigmentation. Is there anything else we can do to remove this scar? My son is only 13.
Avatar m tn Four years ago I was diagnosed with genital warts, which were treated with cryotherapy. The warts were gone three years ago, but the treatment left me with a fairly large white scar, or hypopigmentation, on my penis. This shows up more because the pigment of my penis is much darker than the rest of my body. There has been no change in the scar for this time, so I saw my GP who prescribed hydrocortisine cream. I tried this for one month but there was no change.
Avatar n tn In general, surgical procedures are best avoided, if the only issue is pigment. Even noninvasive techniques, such as laser, may lead to mottling, blotchiness, or even darkening of the already discolored area. Medications which help lighten discoloration include hydroquinone, azelaic acid, kojic acid, and tretinoin (Vitamin A derivatives.) These are available worldwide. Other options include superficial to medium depth chemical peels with agents like trichloroacetic acid.
Avatar m tn Hello, The Vbeam produces a laser light that can be absorbed by the red pigment in the skin. The Vbeam laser works in combination with the Cool Touch laser and with a substance called Levulan. While the Vbeam laser removes red from acne scar tissue, the Cool Touch laser tightens the skin from the inside out. But this requires more than two sittings to take effect. So you should follow up with your cosmetologist and get it done in multiple sittings.
Avatar m tn Hello, These scars can be due to some past injuries, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or some sort of hyperpigmentation. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Treatment involves hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist before using them. Hope it helps.

Avatar n tn I have been for 2 laser consultations and was told due to the size and color (lots of green) that it would take about 20 sessions and about 2 years, and will most likely leave visible pigment. I did have some shading removed by laser at the second consult and it took two weeks for the blisters and scabs to heal. I am not sure if I could handle that every 5 weeks for 2 years (Especially since the area is so large).

Avatar n tn Hello, Sunburn results when the amount of exposure to the sun or other ultraviolet light source exceeds the ability of the body's protective pigment, melanin, to protect the skin. Apply cool compresses on the area and take bath with cool(not very cold) water. Do not scrub your skin or shave your skin and use a soft towel and gently pat your skin dry. Also use a sunburn Over-The-Counter remedy containing aloe vera and a light moisturizer or a dusting powder to relieve chafing.
