Avatar n tn Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute is in Florida.
Avatar n tn Hagan, Thanks for your post on the best ophthalmology programs in the USA and the world. The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of U of Miami was the first we contacted but the person who replies the international e-mail never wanted to forward my request. She wanted us to go there which can mean for us to spend the money we have for this without any warranties. Do you think is worthy to make the trip there or have any contacts over there or any of the other institutions that can help us?
Avatar f tn You may want to obtain a second opinion from another retina specialist, perhaps at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Laser is applied around the area of lattice peripherally to prevent retinal tears in that area. However, occasionally retinal tears develop in areas of the retina without lattice, and these are then treated with laser.
Avatar f tn is ordering tests for autoimmune diseases. All my eye Dr. would say is dry eye. I will find new eye dr. as soon as tests come back. I have good vision except for light problems.
Avatar f tn Dear sag1219, I would recommend that sheek the care of an eyeMD to determine the cause of her vision loss and whether anything can be done to improve her vision. I would also recommend a complete workup of her uveitis which the eyeMD can assist in recommending additional testing such as RPR, VDRL, ACE, etc. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor my eye doctor recommended. His name is Dr. Kalski hear is Miami. I am wondering if I should go the Baskin and Palmer Eye Institute to get a second opinion. The more I read the more choices I see there are. I don't want to regret my decision.
1727909 tn?1314848810 If so, I would be inclined to call Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami right away with symptoms like yours; that is, the sudden onset of floaters and flashing lights. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I had laser surgery to my left eye which also had a detacment in 2 places. I am going to the Basum Plamer eye institute tommorrow in Miami for the possibility of a second surgery. Has your vision improved at all? I am getting the distinct feeling that once the surgery is done, no one can see normally again.
Avatar f tn I only live 2 hours from Miami and the thought has crossed my mind to go to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for further answers.
Avatar f tn Robert Machamer an ophthalmologist at U of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute developed vitreous surgery. Cataract surgery used to be very high risk and took 6-12 months to heal. Let's look at the glass as half full rather than empty.
Avatar f tn Smith JL, Crumpton BC, Hummer J. Source Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Miami School of Medicine, Florida. Abstract Serologic screening of patients for Lyme borreliosis began at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI) in September 1987. This report reviews the data on 641 sera from that date up to January 1, 1990. Initially only immunofluorescent (IFA) IgG and IgM titers were obtained.
233488 tn?1310696703 It is important for him to follow up regularly with his ophthalmologist for a dilated retina and peripheral retina exam. He should see the Eye MD immediately with sudden increase of floaters, flashes or loss of peripheral vision. You need to ask he surgeon specifically about activity. As a generalization return to golf and tennis would be allowed by most surgeons after 7-10 days.

Avatar m tn Of course U of Miami, Bascome Palmer Institute is one of the finest in the nation. If that is too far U of FLA Dept of Ophthalmology Gainseville is good. During surgery on the back of the eye such as macular hole surgery it is possible to cut or damage the lens of the eye causing a rapidly advancing cataract. Cataract surgery is almost never an emergency and would usually be done only after the back of the eye has settled down and blood gone.
Avatar n tn My cataract formed directly in my central vision. I had my surgery Mother's day weekend. I am currently scheduled to go to the Miami Eye Institute to meet with a disease specialist. No one can tell me why this happened other then my drastic near sightedness. -6.75 prior to surgery. I do not let this inhibit my life as much as possible. I currently work 50+ hours a week. I run a successful full service restaurant and went back to work 10 days after surgery.
Avatar m tn As I stated earlier I have had the pars plana Vitrectomy preformed in both eyes. However, the left eye which has the monofocal IOL... I had a YAG laser capsulotomy in Nov. 2014. I want this lens removed, gone. I am frustrated because I read that if you've had the YAG laser capsulotomy it can make it much more difficult to preform this. I am worried that I may not be able to have the symfony IOL bilaterally implanted now due to this. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Avatar n tn If you'd like a second opinion, the Cincinnatti Eye Institute in Ohio houses some of the best surgeons in the world that deal specifically with pupil function.
Avatar m tn They don't know much about it, there is no treatment, it is rare (but perhaps many people aren't being diagnosed right), lots of floaters in the affected eye are common. I actually have it in both eyes but didn't notice the blind spot in my left eye, but it is active in my right. Have any of you ever had a mfERG this would diagnose if this is actually a retina or optic nerve problem? Ask your opthalmologist about it. I was misdiagnosed with optic neuritis for 9 months.
Avatar f tn I have traveled 130 miles to have this done. After researching Laser spine institute I am glad to make this decision. Would Laser spine Institute have done there procedure I would have had temporary relief for a short while. I would reccommend this Dr. Mirkin strongly if your tired or pain. Jim M. . .
Avatar n tn Kramer M, Miller JW, Michaud N, Moulton RS, Hasan T, Flotte TJ, Gragoudas ES Laser Research Laboratory, Retina Service, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston, 02114, USA. PURPOSE: The authors have previously shown that photodynamic therapy (PDT) using lipoprotein-delivered benzoporphyrin derivative mono-acid (BPD) effectively closed experimental choroidal neovascularization (CNV).
Avatar n tn They also work on fusions gone bad. (I have never heard of a good fusion personally) The so called "Gold Standard" they told me. Fusion should only be done for severe Spondylosis to stabilize the spine in my oppinion. It is now done WAY TOO OFTEN. I had a bulging disc at C5-C6, stenosis at C3,C4,C5 and some degeneration. I was on major pain killers everyday for over two years. I am now pain and drug free!
Avatar n tn His team has also had a lot of success with endoscopic and laser surgery. You can send all of your stuff to him for evaluation before having to make the trip. I've seen some spectacular cases he's operated on. One guy had no discs in his neck, just one long rod! You only have one neck and that connects to your back which makes up your whole spine..... make the right decision when it comes to who you let cut it open. Another great site is GPN, Global Patient Network.
Avatar n tn Last Wednesday the pain on the left side of my face, in the maxillary sinus and around my eye, was horrific. Just awful, I was crying all day and of course no doctor's office was open. Friday I called the on-call emergency number for my doctor and the on-call doc suggested Zithromax. I finished my 5 days of Zithromax yesterday and it's helped, the pain is gone and I have some energy back, but this doesn't feel like a permanent fix.
