Common Questions and Answers about Laser eye diabetes

Avatar m tn I have had a vitrectomy in my left eye which is doing much better. Last Friday (05-11-12) my Optomologist said my other eye was "set up" to have similar problems. He scheduled the laser treatment on 06-01...3 weeks away. My question is, how long does diabetic retinopathy take to develop? I am in pretty decent control of my diabetes. My A1C is 6.4. I know the better control the slower it develops. I do have a floater in there that was present when he examined me last week.
1298247 tn?1288290953 This is a very difficult problem, each case is somewhat different so I cannot give specific answers. You need to discuss with surgeon. He needs to control his diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, not smoke; he may need more laser, surgery such as vitrectomy to remove blood, may need cataract removal or lensectomy, glaucoma treatment may need drops, laser or glaucoma surgery.
Avatar f tn The problem, fuor weeks ago, while on the job driving an 18 wheeler,my right eye became blurry andI was seeing spidery vision[ ive had cataric surgery in this eye almost 3 years ago].My eye dr.has been watching this since that day, he says I have a vitreous hemmorhage, and it will drain by itself in time.Do I need surgery or would it help? Would it be advantagous to wait or try to get a surgeon?
Avatar f tn After surgery, Laser Retinal Laser (PRP) has a steady shadow in my eye. what do you think? I went back to the same doctor and did not help and just dropped an eye.
Avatar n tn After a series of bleeds and resulting laser surgery, she suffered a detached retina in one eye and underwent a total vitrectomy. Three days later, she could see nothing - the result, probably of an infection. She was treated with antibiotics and steroids, but her sight never fully recovered and now a fluorogram confirms that she has lost blood supply to approximately 25% of the retina.
Avatar m tn What is the theoretical RD rate of my right eye given the fact that I have RD in the left eye? Is it more close to 5% or 15%? I am thinking if the RD rate is around 5% and the laser can lower the rate a bit to let say 3 or 4 %, I may rather wait until there is a symptom. I am going to see the Retinal specialist tomorrow and like to prepare a bit better.
Avatar m tn If she has proliferative diabetic retinopathy the risks to her better eye is probably much better with the laser than allowing the PDR to get out of control. The surgeon that looks in the eye is the only one that can give you both the risks of both treatment and non treatment and try and quantitate them. Remember to have her keep her diabetes under meticulous control.

Avatar n tn I don't have diabetes, no head injuries and no incindent on both eyes. When I was in the US Navy I had prk lasek surgery on both eyes. After 4 years, suddenly my right have detached retina. My doctor had made treatment on my right eye to have vitrectomy surgery. I still having problem my vision is blurring and cloudy. Is this likely or most likely related to lasek surgery? Note: I have a website for detached retina due to lasek surgery.
Avatar f tn You've asked this question before. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy treated with pan retinal photocoagulation is DIFFERENT that diabetic macular edema. The type laser is different. So you actually have two types of diabetic disease and your eye MD believes that the maculopathy needs laser there's no need to doubt him/her. Diabetes is a progressive disease and you may well need more laser for PDR or DME in the future. Meticulous control of your diabetes (A1C less than 7.
Avatar f tn I had a TPPV with scheral buckle and gas bubble inserted to treat the detachment as soon as it was diagnosed. I had laser surgery on the left eye at the same time; the TPPV was followed up with laser surgery a few weeks later in the right eye. My retina started to detach again due to scar tissue building up, so I had another TPPV in January with silicone oil inserted at that time. By this time, I had developed proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
Avatar m tn My mother age is 55yrs and she is diabetic patient from last 15+ yrs.Currently she is taking drops for Glaucoma. But her pressure is around 22 & 26 right and left eye resp. 274158 tn?1276347187 ll never be able to see properly out of that eye. The doctor wants to do laser surgery on the other eye to prevent further damage. She is scheduled for that next week. I was wondering if that will help her blurry vision or not? I couldn't really ask the doctor- they are so busy, they are the only specialists in my area. I know it will prevent further damage. Will the procedure hurt, is this a hereditary thing? Do I have a chance of getting it?
Avatar n tn An eye problem such as retinopathy is a complication of diabetes. I would contact your eye doctor in reference to eye surgery.

1780509 tn?1314626205 Hello, Xanthalesma / Xanthomas are deposits of fat/cholesterol in the eye lid. Possible causes are raised cholesterol, hyperlipidaemia states, diabetes mellitus and obesity. They cause no harm, but can increase in size producing cosmetic blemish. The only treatment is removal by surgery with/without skin grafting (depending on the size of the lesion) or use of laser (CO2 Laser).

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. Avatar n tn In the absence of diabetes or hypertension, what are some other causes of retinal edema?
