Avatar f tn I still have a lot of mucus and I’ve had laryngitis for a month. My doctor said speaking in meetings all day definitely doesn’t help the vocal chords to recover so he put me on voice rest for two weeks. It’s been a week already and I’ve been taking steroids, ibuprofen and Benadryl at the same time. Today I forgot for a second I don’t have a voice when I woke up this morning. And when I said a word by accident, I heard my voice and realized there was no improvement.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn I hope that give you some treatment options. I know how hard it is to not be able to sing like you want. I had severe laryngitis from November into April and was on strict voice rest by my ENT and voice instructor. I now have my full range back. :D If you do feel like your vocal cords are irritated, you might try breathing some steam, of course if steam triggers your asthma you wouldn't want to do that. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My son did just get over viral laryngitis that turned to bacterial laryngitis. He was treat with a Ceftin type drug for 14 days. He also to 60mg of steriod for 3 days, could not talk for 9 days. During this he was checked by an ENT. Yes, he has only been seen by Neuro. He had a sinus xray last year and a CAT Scan, 11-08. All were clear. He had an MRI in 11-09 when hospitalized for migraine, we went in level 8, left at level 6 apin level. That time torodol iv push worked.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar f tn Im on my third treatment of steroids no sleep slight fever of 100 pounding heart and upper chest upper back little bit of a hard time breathing anyone expierence this?
Avatar f tn My daughter had her first initial steriod treatment last week. She 5 days IV steroids. She did well but about 2 days post treatment she began to feel aweful. Tight chest, weak legs, her numbness is actually a little more heightened, she is so tired. She went to dr and he said some of that is normal a few days following treatment but if it gets worse this week then we will need to rethink future treatment. Anyone else feel this way after their steroid treatment?
Avatar f tn Treatment may include a four- to six-week course of oral antibiotics, oral steroids, topical nasal steroids, sinus irrigation with sterile saline, and other therapies, such as decongestants and drugs to break down mucus. Antibiotics. Antibiotic medications that can eliminate a wide range of bacteria may be used to treat chronic sinusitis. These "broad spectrum” antibiotics may be continued for several weeks or months. CT scan.
Avatar f tn It sounds as if they have given you the Prozac as a prophalactic prior to treatment so it is quite likely that you wouldn't feel any benefit. I would be loathe to up the dose until after you have started treatment. It is common for the interferon to cause serotonin depletion and by starting the Prozac before the interferon whill hopefully offset any negative effects you might feel. I was on Prozac before I started and had to increase it after about 5 weeks of treatment. All the best.
1763947 tn?1334055319 Everyone from the hospital to the orthopedic doctor was trying to push steroids on me. I had a very bad reaction to steroids while having Lyme and refused to take them. Of course everyone thought I was nuts. Nothing is a real emergency, just super painful, so my LLMD agreed with me not to take them. If there had been an emergency, I would have taken them if I was closely monitored by a doctor. Just saying, don't think you must follow non Lyme literate docs in certain situations.

Avatar n tn Five weeks ago I was treated with a four day course of IV steroids to calm an exacerbation and my question is could this have caused me to menstruate again? I haven't had a period for 6 or 7 years and considered myself through the menopause, I'm 53. It definitely feels like and seems to be a period.
Avatar m tn Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.
635835 tn?1272539383 Hey guys, So we're 10 days post 1 dose of 1000mg IV steroid . I had a pretty significant improvement in function a few days later but I've stayed at pretty much the same level since then. My PT (trying to be a good patient) says that I really needed more days of IV steroid. I'm not diagnosed, so that seems to cause some reluctance for treatment. And by some, I mean that no one cares.
556467 tn?1225377691 Last year I was constantly getting upper respiratory infections, laryngitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. There was a period of 6 months that I was constantly on antibiotics and steroids. My ENT did allergy testing (normal), CT scan of nasal cavity (normal) and several scopes to look at my vocal cords which were inflamed. Finally he told me that he felt that I needed to have my Lingual Tonsils removed.
Avatar f tn I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad. Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
Avatar f tn True on the being with the near and dear - but since it's been going on so long (before Thanksgiving) I know they are tired of it! :) I went through 2 rounds of steroids and they didn't work at all on me (plus the Advair 500mg twice a day that has steroids). Oh well! I hope he gets better ....ahh sleep .....wouldn't I love some of that!
