There are more and more articles and papers suggesting saliva as a mode of transmission of HCV, yet so many people on this forum say it requires blood to blood contact for transmission to happen. So which is it?

Dear Dr. I have a question on the transmission mode of HPV. I am single and decided to practice not only safer but perfectly safe sex (if thats possible). Part of that is that I am going to erotic massages and never allowing more than a handjob. I believe information is power so I browsed the net and especially your archives for risks of that. I realized that HPV is sometimes mentioned as the only very rare exception to handjobs being zero risk.
Any suggestions highly appreciated. I took an appointment for next week with my ENT.I see the transmission rate of 4% with unprotected sex from female to male with HSV1 genitally. I have also attached the pic for skin rash that occured on my skin.
And why there is no risk considering that a herpes sore is a mode of hiv transmission. May I ask if you are a specialist or have general knowledge of HIV?
Thanks but i read in body.com that it can be a mode of transmission and it can be taken into a high risk of mode of transmission.I am very scared.Kindly help me and answer.Is there any documented case of transmission from this mode and how can i be sure that HIV does not passes through this mode if i go by your word.

I get laryngitis after bouts of sinus infections or colds. I think it comes about from the infectious post nasal drip that constantly runs down my throat. It gets pretty terrible. The last time I had it was for 2 weeks or so. You really need to rest, drink plenty of fluids. If it's from an infection then you need to try to flush that infection out. I will get laryngitis also from constantly trying to clear my throat as well.
Why do international HIV websites claim that oral sex is a mode of transmission for HIV while the consesus here at MedHelp is that it's a 0% risk?
Even the doctor at my local social hygiene clinic, a general practitioner, claims that oral sex is indeed a mode of transmission for HIV?

Yes it does,,, Time has nothing to do with transmission. It is the mode which counts. And the known mode for HIV transmission is unprotected vaginal or anal sex.
However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.

once exposed to air, hiv becomes inactive and unable to infect. there is no reason for you to concern yourself about the situation that you are describing.
I mean if the oraquick was able to test positive how can the swab not be a mode of transmission to me
There is absolutely no risk here. Handjobs - even those involving saliva - are not a mode of transmission for STDs.
You do not need to be tested.

if i have a pretty well healed small scab on my hand, and say i shake someone's hand that has a cut, could i get the virus? i mean even in sports, if an athlete gets cut and another athlete comes in contact w/them and they have cuts too, how likely is this? i always thought that unprotected sex, iv drug use sharing, and tainted blood supply were the ways to contract this hiv.
