Laryngitis length of hoarseness or loss of voice

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis length of hoarseness or loss of voice

laryngitis

Avatar f tn Flexeril or cyclobenzaprine or baclofen are not associated with hoarseness of voice. More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference.
Avatar f tn That lasted 3 weeks and then the 4th week my voice came back but still hoarse. I have pain on my left side of my neck and tenderness on that side when I swallow. Dr checked me out and said throat is not red and gave me pills for acid reflux. It's been 4 days and don't think its acid reflux....voice and neck still the same. Anyone know what it could be ??

Avatar f tn Laryngitis. Laryngitis is one of the most common causes of hoarseness. It can be due to temporary swelling of the vocal folds from a cold, an upper respiratory infection, or allergies. Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone , i had this problem since i was little and it embarrass me sometime especially when you talk to a group of people or present to the class ..
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
Avatar f tn It can cause fungal infections, hoarseness, and temporary loss of voice. You may need to have a throat culture done to make sure you do not have a fungal infection. I am not saying that this is the only possible reason you have problems losing your voice, but I would put it at or close to the top of the list. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago, I was having hard time talking and there is hoarseness on my voice. I can talk but I can feel the pain in the lower part of my neck. I can’t feel any lump on my neck, but I am having hard time swallowing. After a week, the back of my ear starts to ache and now I can feel the pain inside my ear, even though the pain is tolerable I’m afraid that this is more than sore throat. Every time I try to speak the lower part of my neck is getting heavier.
Avatar f tn I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad. Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
Avatar m tn I have had problems with acid reflux and did have hoarseness when I was first diagnosed, about 6 years ago. I had to have vocal therapy for six weeks. This seems different in that I am not hoarse when I talk or sing low notes, I just don't have a voice at a higher range and that I am straining to get anything out. It is possible though and I have not ruled out the acid reflux. Thank you for your suggestion.
Avatar f tn I get laryngitis after bouts of sinus infections or colds. I think it comes about from the infectious post nasal drip that constantly runs down my throat. It gets pretty terrible. The last time I had it was for 2 weeks or so. You really need to rest, drink plenty of fluids. If it's from an infection then you need to try to flush that infection out. I will get laryngitis also from constantly trying to clear my throat as well.
Avatar m tn Hoping some folks on here might have an idea or two for me. I'm an actor/singer in NYC - I was finishing the run of a show back in October, and towards the end got a bad upper respiratory infection. I had to muscle through it and finish the run (3 more shows) with the help of steroids and all those wonderful actor secrets. Needless to say, my voice was wiped by the time I got through it. But it got mostly better.
Avatar m tn The surgery went well and I feel good. However, now I am losing my voice? It is very raspy and horse almost like laryngitis. I have has a bad cough since I got out of the hospital (Actually both of my kids have stayed home all week because of thier cough). Here is my question: I never had any speach problems after the surgery, but I have had a bad cold....Is losing my voice just a coincedence, or should I be worried about nerve damage?
Avatar m tn A few years ago I was in the hospital for a Pulmonary Embolism and have had a hoarse voice ever since then. I went to a lung Dr and he said I Did NOT have asthma – eventually it was pointed to the Gerd that I have always had. Recently I was taking Pantoprazole – 40mg twice a day and then took a test that monitored to see if any acid was coming up. They had me stay on the Meds during the 2 day test. My stomach was so neutral that no acid came up even though I was burping fluids.
396332 tn?1320003615 If acid reflux gets past the upper esophageal sphincter, it can enter the throat (pharynx) and even the voice box (larynx), causing hoarseness or a sore throat. Laryngitis Nausea Sore throat Chronic dry cough, especially at night. GERD is a common cause of unexplained coughing. It is not clear how cough is caused or aggravated by GERD. Asthma.
Avatar f tn There is increasing evidence that GERD causes laryngeal signs and symptoms. Symptoms of reflux laryngitis include hoarseness, throat clearing, dysphagia, increased phlegm, and globus (feeling of lump in one’s throat) sensation. Despite suspected epidemiologic reports, there is still controversy about the prevalence of GERD-related laryngeal signs and symptoms. Studies have shown that 24-hour pH monitoring may not be the perfect test for diagnosing atypical GERD.
Avatar n tn Burning sensation in the neck and upper chest raises the suspicion of gastric reflux or GERD. The regurgitation of acid in the oesophagus and throat can cause burning pain in upper chest and neck and hoarse voice. Plaese make sure you eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and eat your dinner 2 hrs before bedtime. A mild OTC antacid before meals will also help you. At the same time pain due to heart attack should also be excluded. Do you have any shortness of breath?
Avatar n tn When using inhaled corticosteroids, some of the drug may deposit in your mouth and throat and cause laryngitis. This can cause coughing, hoarseness, dry mouth and sore throat. Gargling and rinsing the mouth after each puff on your corticosteroid inhaler, may help to prevent mouth and throat irritation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn When my primary doctor added T3 to the T4, the cessation of the croaky voice was one of the first signs of abatement of symptoms. My next ultasound showed that the nodules had not grown, and in fact had shrunk. Has your doctor even FELT your throat ? My endo did not for the first year of me insisting I felt terrible....whoops.
Avatar f tn s edema but i do not smoke meds given had no effect as well. what could be causing my hoarseness of voice please help? my doctor does not know what to do anymore to cure me. thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I'm a 40 year old male. Last April I was preparing for a singing concert and had to use my voice regularly. During this time I also had a bad chest infection caused by a virus. I was hoarse but I had no choice but to continue training as the concert date was coming up. I'm also a full time teacher and therefore there is a high demand on my voice during the day too. Ever since then I've been suffering from a tired voice and hoarseness.
