My 7 week old daughter, who was born five weeks premature has been having issues with hyperkalemia. Her pediatrician and the kidney specialist she had been consulting with order more labs and an ekg at our local childrens hospital. Today I got a voicemail saying that the potassium levels had went down, but all the other labs like the cretin check where abnormal and she was waiting to her from the kidney specialist. She also said that her ekg was abnormal.

Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference. We were in emergency last night because he had abdominal pain. Turns out it was diverticulitis and not kidney stones like he thought! Liquid diet, pain meds and rest and he will be fine. Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.

I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.

I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?
