Avatar f tn My 82-year old Dad, who is in good health, has been getting very hoarse in his throat for going on a year now. His voice isn't too bad in the a.m., but around 12:00, he starts getting hoarse. By nighttime, you can't even understand him. He says nothing hurts him, it's just he can't speak. Can you help me with this This discussion is related to throat/hoarseness symptoms 6weeks and counting.

Avatar f tn Who barely looked down my throat except to tell me that I had some hardening oWho barely looked down my throat except to tell me that I had some hardening of the muscles in the back of my throat the he squeezed my neck a couple of times wish was extremely painful and tell me there was nothing wrong. He was actually supposed to use this camera scope and look down my throat but he didn't. I am a disabled veteran I was injured in 1995 during a training exercise.
Avatar n tn My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
Avatar n tn the docter said ive poped a blood vessel in my throat, now ive lost my voice, why is this?
Avatar m tn Thanks again for the relief.I went him with sore throat and he diagnosed with laryngitis. When i heard hiv for the reason of laryngitis i got shocked. Lizzie it is nice to hear from you again.
Avatar n tn Hi there! I'm so sorry you're having problems with your neck. I'm really surprised that your doctor didn't check your TSH levels considering the fact that cysts were found on your thyroid. I have Hashimoto's disease and it took 2 years to finally get diagnosed a year ago.
Avatar n tn The risk for any other STD from giving unprotected oral to a women are too small to worry about or only theoretical. The only way to be tested for gonorrhea of the throat is is to get a throat swab and culture.
Avatar m tn An oral gonorrhea infection will not typically infect the mouth or tongue, but in rare cases it may infect the throat. Gonorrhea of the throat is also known as pharyngeal gonorrhea. This type of oral gonorrhea infection is almost always considered harmless. Most people will not experience symptoms, the oral infection is difficult to spread to others, and the oral infection will usually go away by itself without treatment.
Avatar f tn I had a bad cold and then got laryngitis. That lasted 3 weeks and then the 4th week my voice came back but still hoarse. I have pain on my left side of my neck and tenderness on that side when I swallow. Dr checked me out and said throat is not red and gave me pills for acid reflux. It's been 4 days and don't think its acid reflux....voice and neck still the same. Anyone know what it could be ??

Can this be throat cancer i smoke and now I quit ....
Avatar m tn t have any symptoms except difficulty in swallowing and discomfort in my throat. I feel like something is struck in my throat 70% of the time. I feel like soar throat if I shout loudly. I am fearing if I would have been infected with HSV1. Will this be Herpes Laryngittis/ pharyngitis? will viral Laryngitis/Pharyngitis get relief from antibiotics as I was feeling well in a day after I took them. Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips?
Avatar f tn Had what I thought was a cold but has not progressed from the sore throat/laryngitis phase. Now not sure if it's that or something more serious. I do have a growth on the left side of my throat near my tonsil--it has been there for four years and has been checked out several times.
Avatar m tn I am on day 7 and the cough has considerably eased into a milder dry cough with discomfort in the throat but a headache persists and the prominence of these spots on my throat is concerning.
Avatar n tn The only thing I can think of is maybe researching a bit in vocal chord dysfunction? I know it can be similar to asthma in symptoms, ie cough and can come in attacks. It also isn't at the top of the ENT's mind so it probably gets missed unless you are in an attack when checking. Make sure they are doing full pulmonary function tests, laproscopy of your sinuses and throat. Those will make sure there isn't any infections or anything that is bugging your throat.
Avatar f tn I tried looking at my throat in the mirror and noticed something at the back of my throat that I’ve never seen before in my life. I looked it up and I guess that my epiglottis is also raised. I still had neck tightness n the popping but I did regain my voice. I made the mistake of taking that as a sign that I was good to start singing again. Later on that night my voice was nearly gone/completely hoarse it even hurt to speak. Its been a week now and I still haven’t gotten my voice back.
Avatar f tn It is hard enough to breathe but in the last while it is getting even harder. I can not go out in the humid weather or in the cold.
Avatar m tn Hello I was wondering if its normal to have dark red veins on the back of throat? I have no symptoms, but I did have acute laryngitis two months ago. Ever since then I had no symptoms, but I still feel skeptical when I see those veins on the back of my throat, so should I be worried?
Avatar f tn Have not restarted the advair because the asthma and pulmo dr feel the powder will be irritating to my throat. Went back to the ENT for a follow up and he did the scope again and said that there is less swelling and that he still thinks it is GERD. Had a Ct Scan today of my larynx and throat, pissed that he didn't order it while I was in the hospital and I am doing a swallowing test next week to rule out GERD. Heard that is not the most fun test. I am besides myself.
Avatar m tn Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.
Avatar n tn m usually prescribed antibiotics for a suspected sinus infection, and take it faithfully but I worry that it dries out my throat even more, exacerbating the croup like symptoms. I also wonder if the anitbiotic is useless if perhaps the origin of my upper respiratory infection is viral. It seems abnormal to have such severe problems with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn Hello, In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.
Avatar n tn I called my doctor, who changed me to Azithromycin. My laryngitis is better. Most of the sore throat is gone. However, I still have sore swollen glands, and I still have a large white pocket in my throat (Next to my Faucial Pillars). Is this typical? How long should I give it for the white patch and gland stuff to go away?
Avatar m tn Be sure to take the medications exactly as recommended in the meantime. If you take them in any other fashion, they will just make expensive urine. I had a job where speaking was essential and I started to sound like Louie Armstrong or Kim Carnes, I eventually had surgery that completely fixed the problem. The first step is education, find exactly what is going on, and an Endoscopy will supply that information.
